1. Key West
The southern peak of, not only Florida, but the 48 contiguous U.S. states, rests in Key West. The beautiful vacation island is a tropical paradise and home to the Hemingway Home and Museum. To reach Key West, you'd drive down the Seven Mile Bridge.
2. Miami
Miami is the home of some of the rich and famous residents of Florida. South Beach is an exquisite vacation spot. The rich Cuban history in Miami can be treasured with a visit to the Little Havana area. Calle Ocho, also known as Southwest 8th Street, is home to great Latin restaurants, clubs, and art.
3. Walt Disney World
Many people think that Walt Disney World is located in Orlando, Florida. But the beloved theme park is actually in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, a suburb just west of Orlando. Magic Kingdom Park was first opened on October 1, 1971.
4. Cape Canaveral
From 1963 to 1973, the NASA site for rocket launching was called Cape Kennedy, in Brevard County, Florida. Florida citizens chose to rename the area back to its original name, Cape Canaveral, in 1973. It's home to the Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
The location was chosen next to the Atlantic Ocean to protect U.S. citizens if a rocket launch should have issues on take-off.
5. Tampa
Tampa is one of the most populated cities in the state of Florida. The city is home to the University of South Florida and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Lightning sports franchises. McDill Air Force Base in the southern part of the city is the site of a strategic and active Air Force installation.
6. Sarasota
Sarasota, Florida is an amazing destination for a tropical beach vacation on the Gulf of America. Lido Beach and Siesta Key Beach have often been ranked among the best beaches in the world. Sarasota was named by the American Association of Retired People as one of the "best places to reinvent your life" and many residents have made the area their home after retirement.
7. Everglades
Everglades National Park is the largest wilderness park east of the Mississippi River. The area in South Florida is home to wildlife as diverse as American alligators, manatees, Florida Panthers, and even some (introduced) pythons measuring over twenty feet long.
8. Pensacola
Pensacola is up in the panhandle of Florida and has been nicknamed the "City of Five Flags" for the different countries that have ruled that region of Florida. Pensacola is known for their beautiful white sandy beaches and a rich history that dates back to the 16th Century.
In 1559, 1400 settlers led by Spanish Conquistador Don Tristan de Luna y Arellano made the Pensacola area their new home.
9. Jacksonville
In Duval County, in the northeast corner of Florida, sits the first city in the state to reach a population of one million people. Located on the Atlantic Ocean and featuring the St. John's River, Jacksonville is a metropolitan area that offers the beach life along with concert venues, shopping, and great hotels.
10. St. Augustine
If you're on Magnolia Avenue in St. Augustine, Florida, you need to visit the Fountain of Youth, first discovered by Ponce de Leon. The archeological site has waters that are believed to grant eternal life. The city has been nicknamed "America's Oldest City" after being founded in 1565 by Spanish explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés.
This predates the Jamestown Colony by 42 years, and it has been continuously inhabited ever since.
