Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Marc came back to life as a zombie.

Answer: True

Betsy had already received agreement from Sinclair and Tina to find a way to bring Marc back, but the latter two suggested Betsy not involve the humans of the house in their plans. Not long afterward, Betsy found Marc inside the attic, doing his best to keep busy! He explained as long as he was mentally stimulated, he stayed coherent.

It was later revealed that as long as Betsy loved him and he was near her, his body would never decompose.
2. Which member of Betsy's household died early in the book?

Answer: Giselle, the cat

Poor Giselle finally passed. The cause was inconclusive, though maybe we can ask Marc later if he ever figured it out (ew). Betsy was determined to bury her not so beloved pet, but she was besieged by a hoard of hounds and had to run back inside. Giselle's body was left outdoors, and Marc later sneaked out to retrieve her.
3. Who was it that brought Marc back to life?

Answer: Ancient Betsy

In the previous book, "Undead and Undermined", Ancient Betsy sent Ancient Marc, commonly referred to as the Marc-Thing, back to "help" save the future. I used quotes because his help had been slightly counter-productive. His long, drawn out discussions with normal Marc had caused the latter to commit suicide by overdosing on morphine. Marc left specific instructions about his after death care, as well as many journals about his life since meeting Betsy years prior. Betsy was wracked with guilt over his death, determined to bring him back, and suspicious when "someone" did it for her. Satan brought Ancient Betsy back from the future to explain herself.

The older, colder, version of Betsy did just that, and stayed longer to help save the future.
4. With whom did Betsy formulate a plan to kill herself, totally and completely, no coming back from the dead?

Answer: Marc

Marc was the only member of her household who related to the need to end one's self in order to protect oneself. Betsy felt she could end herself and talk to God, and find out the answers to some important questions. In the end, she did not have to carry out her plan, as discussions with her ancient self and Satan led her to figuring out what was needed.

At the point of that decision, Michael had not yet even discovered that his pack-mate, Antonia, was back from the dead. When Antonia did decide to finally tell Michael, she left him a voicemail of the news! Classic Antonia.
5. The one holiday that Betsy truly despises was eminent in this book. Which holiday was it?

Answer: Thanksgiving

When Marc asked if he'd missed it, Betsy replied: "Unfortunately, Thanksgiving still looms over our lives like a scythe made of turkey drumsticks... it's this Thursday."
6. Jessica was still pregnant in this book.

Answer: True

She was largely pregnant, and Betsy was convinced something strange was afoot with the Belly That Ate the World. That was just one of several colorful nicknames Betsy had for her best friend's pregnancy. I think she also used the Baby That Ate the World. Jessica was extremely hormonal, and when Betsy questioned her about her due date, Jessica seemed sure of the date and then later more vague about it. And, Jessica seemed aware and fine about her own vagueness.

When she found out Marc was alive, Jessica attacked Betsy, believing Betsy to have gone behind her back.

It took awhile to convince the humans that current Betsy was not the death-stealing culprit.
7. At whose farm, which housed many dogs, did Sinclair and Betsy meet up with a suspiciously absent of late Laura?

Answer: Jon Delk's

Unfortunately, there was no Christian Louboutin in this new timeline. Yes, Laura brought Betsy out to a puppy farm of sorts! Maybe knowing her sister could be swarmed by adoring puppies felt like a safety tactic to her. Laura had the unpleasant task of explaining that she'd been missing in action for a while to figure out some stuff. One thing she discovered was that in the new timeline, Jon Delk was a famous author! He had published 'Undead and Unwed' in this timeline, and made vampires super-famous and well-loved.

This could be a reason Ancient Betsy was able to take over the world in the future! Meanwhile, Sinclair was falling in love with two adorable black Labs, which he named Fur and Burr. Betsy did not allow him to steal Jon's puppies, but later went back and paid for them as a present to him.
8. Who finally revealed to Betsy that the "Book of the Dead" was written by Betsy and on Sinclair's skin?

Answer: Laura

Laura's mom, Satan, told Laura it was time to let Betsy in on the joke. Yes, it was not a "ha-ha" kind of joke, but a highly morbid and shockingly sadistic one. Betsy refused to believe it could be true. But, her own awful ancient self confirmed it to be.

There was no way Betsy would allow even the possibility of that to come true. She loved him more than anything else, which she realized in the final battle of the book.
9. A fed up Dick 'Don't Call Me Nick' Berry arrested Betsy toward the end of the book. What was his reason?

Answer: She was bad at her job as Queen of the Dead

Betsy could never get used to his desire to be called Dick instead of Nick. He reminded her his full name was Richard, so Dick was the logical shortening of that name. Jessica called him Dickie, which made Betsy nauseous. On her way to jail, she lamented about rooms missing from the mansion in this new timeline.

She could not fathom what had happened to them. Have I ever mentioned how easily Betsy is distracted off the more important points of any given moment? She was the one who'd offered him the actual idea of what to her charge was, sucking at being queen.

In the end, he cooled off and let her go.
10. Who held off Laura while Betsy killed Satan?

Answer: Ancient Betsy

Kenneth Lay, one of the prominent figures of the Enron scandal, died while in prison. And though Betsy had already seen him in Hell, he was not the one to aid in this fight. The Devil wanted to die. After five billion years, she was done. And, she'd produced her own successor with Laura, who'd already been temping for her mom. Betsy figured killing the sassy Lena Olin look-alike was something definitely different than Ancient Betsy's timeline. That alone could be enough to save the future, and it was worth a shot. Satan goaded Betsy into figuring it all out, and into a raging fight.

When Sinclair rushed to intervene, Satan popped their fight into Hell. She told Betsy to chose between Laura and Sinclair. Betsy chose Sinclair. After she won, she told herself that it had never been her job to save the Anti-Christ, who now sat as possibly an even more powerful Satan than her mother had been. Ancient Betsy was able to get present day Betsy back home before she returned to an unknown future. It was kind of like Sarah Conner at the end of "Terminator 2". Once home, Betsy's fight had left Sinclair able to walk in the sunlight without bursting into flames.

He was ecstatic about it, but deeply troubled when he found out how it had happened. What would they all face next? A mysterious birth on the way, a brand new, extremely ticked off little sister Satan, and Betsy planning to head back to where it all started. Back to the year she turned 30, with no "Book of the Dead" for Tina and Sinclair to use to find her. Stay tuned!
