Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Oh my goodness! Who came back to haunt Betsy at start of "Undead and Unworthy"?

Answer: Antonia "The Ant" Taylor

Thanks MJ! Nothing could be worse for Betsy than to be haunted by her hated step-mother! Antonia appeared right in the middle of Sinclair and Betsy's love making, and no one but Betsy could see or hear her. So, initially Sinclair, Marc and Jessica thought that Betsy's screeches were of pain instead of hysteria. Antonia and Betsy's dad were killed in the previous novel. Betsy knew she'd have to solve her step-monster's problem before the witch went away. Antonia kept blaming Betsy, saying it was "all her fault", but not explaining what was all Betsy's fault.

Elvis Presley is a vampire now and haunts Sookie Stackhouse's world in the "Dead" series by Charlaine Harris.
2. The Fiends came out of their feral funk because Garrett fed them Betsy's blood.

Answer: False

Garrett, formerly known as George the Fiend, felt enormous guilt and a bit of loneliness after his lady friend started leaving him to tend pack business. In this time, he felt he was not worthy to try and truly befriend his king and queen. So, he traveled out to Nosio's old pad and fed the fiends his blood. Well, after a time it began to awaken them in the sense that they were less wild and more coherent.

When they became fully aware of the details of their predicament, they wanted revenge on Betsy! Go figure! They escaped their enclosure and killed their keeper Alice. Garrett witnessed this, and unintentionally led them back home to his queen.
3. Who came to Betsy asking for help solving crimes?

Answer: Nick

Nick reported that some pretty heavy criminals were being executed by what he believed to be rogue cops. Sinclair tried to circumvent Nick's meeting Betsy, but she could tell someone had arrived at the house. When Nick took Betsy out on her first run, Jessica revealed that she had no idea what was going on.

This offered Betsy the delicious opportunity to torment Nick for not being totally honest with his girlfriend, who scared both of them when she was angry.
4. When the Fiends attacked the gang for the second time, how many of them were killed by Betsy's team?

Answer: 2

One of them was decapitated by Tina during the mêlée and another was killed by Sinclair. Betsy identified the two as Benny and Trippy. Benny had hurt Marc before Tina removed his head, so Marc had to go to the ER and get stitches. Jessica drove Marc and Nick to the hospital. Nick was the very first person hurt in the attack, but not seriously.

The outing with Betsy occurred after this event.
5. Which Fiend came to the mansion peacefully, but with no noticeable agenda?

Answer: Stephanie Conner

Stephanie was originally known as Clara. She seemed peaceful, and extremely frightened. If anything, she was on a fact finding mission, but seemed unwilling to either concede to the facts or help with the other Fiends. Upon being recognized, the frightened beast was immediately attacked by Tina. Thankfully, Sinclair snatched her back in time to question the visitor.

In the end Betsy allowed the sniveling being to leave unharmed, with beaucoup warnings of regret from Tina and Eric.
6. After Antonia (the werewolf) came back to the mansion with Laura, Laura accompanied Nick and Betsy on another crime sleuthing outing. When attacked by yet another Fiend, which of the trio killed it?

Answer: Laura

Betsy heard the vampire approaching just in time to know he was there, but was then instantly off of her feet! As she has been known for her murderous rage, it was no surprise that a hellfire sword appeared, via Laura, in the blink of an eye to exterminate Skippy the Fiend. Nick had drawn his pistol, but Laura shoved him back and down before she delivered the deathly rays of hell onto Skippy.

He turned into ash right before their eyes, which Betsy mentally noted was unusual for real life vamps.
7. It's always nice to have a guard dog! What ghoulish treat to Antonia bring home after a night of running with the full moon?

Answer: another dead Fiend

Yep, Antonia sniffed out and killed Sandy the Fiend whilst out on her run. She'd taken Garrett with her, so when she returned to Summit Avenue with the vampire's bloody corpse, he was able to explain the course of events. Betsy, unsure what to say to her friend, finally decided to chastise the wolf for endangering herself.
8. Nick broke off his relationship with Jessica after being kidnapped and held hostage.

Answer: True

The three remaining Fiends, Stephanie, Jane and Richard, took Nick with an order for Betsy to meet them solo. Garrett offered that they'd be holed up in the place it had all started for them. So when discussion became chaos, Betsy's blood heated up and she knocked the lot of them unconscious.

She ran off to Nostro's old mansion to save Nick, by stealing Sinclair's Lexus SUV. Once there, she was unable to get the Fiends to accept her offer of help and peace, so she had to toss Nick out of an open window to save him.

Then, a fight ensued and Betsy had to tap into her new power to make the Fiends submit. After the gang arrived on scene, Nick came into the house angrier at Betsy than ever and Jessica couldn't talk sense into him. She told him not to make her choose, and he said he'd already chosen and that they were done.
9. Who died in protection of Queen Betsy?

Answer: Antonia the wolf

After their negotiations and declarations with the Fiends, the troop returned to Summit Ave, also known as Monster Mansion. The Ant was there, warning that things were not over. And sure enough, when they entered the house Betsy was slammed to the floor with great force.

When she stood she faced Chief Hamlin, who turned out to be the son of one of the Fiends, Edward. Edward had been killed by Laura in a blaze of hellfire. The Chief had set Edward onto the criminals that had been turning up dead, and then led Nick to investigate the killings.

In the end, he apologized for shooting Betsy's friend, who he claimed had moved faster than anyone had ever seen. And, in the interest of saving himself from his father's fate, he saved his last bullet for himself. Nick stepped in and arranged to make it look like the Chief killed himself inside his own home. Antonia had taken cop killer bullets to the head, so there would be no reviving her. Betsy decided to take BabyJon and Sinclair to the Cape to tell Antonia's pack how she had died so heroically.
10. Though her step-mom wouldn't tell her, did Betsy ever figure out why the Ant was haunting her?

Answer: Yes

Like most things in Betsy's world, this knowledge came on fast and sure. She finally realized that Antonia Taylor couldn't leave her at all, as her whole purpose in life had been to torment Betsy. So, for the time being, the wretched Ant would remain a fixture in the queen's world. Antonia herself admitted, though only Betsy could hear her, that she had tried to leave multiple times. In the "Epilogue", Betsy went once again to visit her grandfather. She brought him more beer, and this time asked him how he had been able to cause death and just move on. He finally explained that when you kill people or people die because of you, you cannot dwell on it. If it is in the service of the greater good, you must act and move on. He had been in WWII and admitted that he fought because Jews didn't deserve to die just because they were Jews.

Excerpt from MaryJanice Davidson's "A Note to the Reader"- "book seven is the beginning of a new story arc...just as the first six books in the series were their own story arc, so the next three books will be an arc...think of this book as the first of a trilogy within a series..."

I, for one, cannot wait for more!
