The episode began with Leo and his discussing campaign strategy with a couple strategists in the wake of the reveal that President Bartlet had multiple sclerosis. They remarked how House Democrats likely would not want the president to come to their district in fear it would hinder their chances to win re-election.

They said this was at a bad time considering the fact they had a strong case against the Republicans on tax cuts, education, and the environment. The strategists advised Leo to persuade President Bartlet not to run for re-election but all Leo told them was they would hold a press conference that night.

As the opening credits rolled, Toby and Sam spoke on President Bartlet's press conference and how best to set it up, as in what room to have him make his address and what not. In the midst of their talk, Sam advised Toby that perhaps President Bartlet was not up for the speech. Toby responded how he had no choice at that point to make it since C.J. contacted the networks to televise the speech.

In C.J.'s first scene, she spoke to an assistant of hers regarding a seating arrangement on Air Force One and then ran into Josh. She mentioned to him how that day likely was not going to be busy and rather light and perhaps they should go out shopping. Rather than answer the question, Josh informed her of a briefing he had to give on tobacco related issues.

There were issues in Haiti in this episode and it resulted in a man named Bazan wanting to oust a democratically elected head of state in the country. The United States intervened and tried to mediate the situation for a proper resolution. During a press conference, C.J. informed the media that the United States still had all options on the table, both military and diplomatic, to inform Bazan how serious they were with their response.

President Bartlet was seen in some earlier flashbacks during his days in school and when he met Dolores Landingham, who had just passed away. Their flashbacks involved their talking about his father, who was involved in the school where they attended, and how she was his secretary. Kirsten Nelson and Jason Widener played a young Dolores Landingham and Jed Bartlet, respectively.

Midway through the episode, we saw the characters come together at a local cathedral to attend Dolores Landingham's funeral. As the pastor spoke of Dolores' life, we noticed Charlie sitting next to C.J. and the other members of the Bartlet Administration in the crowd. Sitting next to President Bartlet was First Lady Abbey Bartlet.

After Mrs. Landingham's memorial service ended, Leo was seen going up to President Bartlet and remarked how it was a beautiful service. He called her a "real dame", to which President Bartlet agreed. Immediately after this, Leo reminded President Bartlet they had to go back to the office and make some real important decisions, which the president agreed needed to be done.

Sam, Toby, C.J., and Josh all convened in a room midway through the episode regarding what answers would be most appropriate for President Bartlet to give during his press conference. They ran through likely questions and stated a couple of responses and then debated which was the best response for Bartlet to use.

In the middle of this, Sam got up and suggested they call off the conference as even Bartlet did not know what his plan was. However, C.J., Josh, and Toby refused to go along with this plan.

President Bartlet notice the rain outside coming down hard so he asked that Donna come see him to inform him more on weather patterns. Donna entered Bartlet's office and told him some facts about tropical storms, such as when the season for them ran. President Bartlet asked her how often tropical storms hit Washington, D.C. in the middle of May and Donna responded how it never happened within the past century.
