In the beginning of this episode, the CSIs arrive at a crime scene to discover three dead bodies and two survivors of a shooting. All of the victims have plastic bags on their heads and duct tape tying their hands back. The criminal responsible used a gun to shoot all of the victims. Luckily, two of these victims, Terrell Davenport and Octavia Figueroa survived the incident.

While inspecting the area, Flack tells Mac that police broke the front door in and found the bodies. This meant that the murderer took the back door.

At the time of the murders, the café was closed. Mac leaves Danny and Aiden to the crime scene.

When Danny and Aiden check the basement, they find two bodies that Flack has already identified. When they check the bullets on the ground, they find that the killer used a revolver, so he would have needed to reload it. They also discover a night deposit slip in the room, and determine that the owner was planning a trip by finding a train schedule.

The killer brought his own duct tape, but he used plastic bags from inside the restaurant. The killer took the victims' jewelery, wallets, and money, as well as everything in the safe and cash register, so they figure that the killer was working for somebody.

While Danny and Aiden look into the diner shooting, Stella and Mac look at a severed leg in the alleyway near a loading bay. Oddly, the leg is the only thing in the area, and it's covered in wounds and markings.
At the diner, Aiden and Danny look on the main floor for clues. The victim behind the counter was shot in the head, and they find blood on the telephone. This is from Terrell, who called 911 after the incident.

When Stella and Mac talk to Hawkes about the unlucky leg, he notes multiple wounds by gunshots, stabbings, and even a power drill to the bone. Although nothing was really found at the scene where this leg was located, Hawkes found a rod inside of the leg with a serial number on it (137652).

The surgery done on the leg was done merely a year earlier, and the leg was cut off by a power saw. Mac and Stella go to a hospital and find the doctor responsible for the rod. The man with the leg was injured by a shotgun discharge and probably would have had the leg amputated.

The rod healed the leg.

Danny and Aiden make a scale model of the diner in order to determine what everyone was doing. Octavia was working on the night deposit in the basement, and other employee, Gina, was having a cigarette (proven by lipstick on the cigarette). One employee was eating while Jared was eating.

The only one without an alibi is Terrell. When Aiden and Danny examine the duct tape used on the victims, they end up finding blue fibers and possible hair samples. Aiden finds a print on one of the tape pieces, and surprise surprise, it's from Terrell.

The blue fibers are examined under a microscope and they're found to be trilobal. This leads them nowhere.

Answer: A finger

Mac and Stella finally find the location of the owner of the severed leg, and when they enter his apartment, they find him dead in his bed. Mac determines that the body must have been dead for at least a day, and since the severed leg has gangrene, this process would go faster.

There are pill bottles on the floor and the victim's IVs were ripped out of his arm as if he tried to leave. Mac says that everything's wrong in the place, including the time. The finger found in the fridge isn't Frank's either.

When Mac talks to Hawkes, he is told that the one who cut off Frank's leg switched saws while cutting the leg. Meanwhile, Aiden and Danny find that Octavia has passed away and Terrell tries to maintain his innocence.

When Danny checks the key to the door found at the crime scene, he finds that the last one to use it was the man found upstairs behind the counter, Najiv. Aiden and Danny assume that he was trying to use it before he was shot in order to escape the killer. When Danny and Aiden look in the dumpster behind the café, they find syringes. The fingerprints on these lead to Jose Figueroa. Jose explains that Octavia was responsible for the syringes in the dumpster. She threw them in there to help her brother get off the drugs. When she died, he found her body, did drugs, and left.

Meanwhile, Stella finds the owner of the finger, Joe Garford, and she and Mac meet him. He appears to be missing the finger as well as his leg, but he says that he's only a 'wannabe amputee'. He then reveals that he isn't missing a leg; it's just been tied back.

When Danny finds the prints and runs them through the database, they find Lamar Adams' name. He and Flack go and find Lamar and he admits to being at the Quality Café to pick up his girlfriend, Gina. When she didn't show up, he left. When Danny leaves, he takes Lamar's wristband, which contains blue fibers, but this later proves to be useless.

Meanwhile, Stella talks with Frank Hertzberg's wife. She says that Frank had apotemnophilia which caused him to hate his leg and feel that it caused his problems, so he and Joe would think up schemes to make medical centers want to amputate his leg.

After talking with Lamar, Aiden gives Danny information about the duct tape used on the bodies. Most of the tape was made from a material used at an auto repair shop. When they trace this and get records of it, they find one shop owned by Octavia's boyfriend, Luis.

When Danny examines the trunk of Luis' car, he find two circles in the blue carpet. Danny interrogates Luis and says that the carpet fibers matched the fibers on the tape in the café. Danny and Aiden also check the garbage in Luis' house and find a garbage bag identical to the ones found at the crime scene.

The perforations on the bag match the ones from the crime scene. This is enough to prove that Terrell was telling the truth and that Luis killed everyone.

Stella and Hawkes try sawing through a sample femur to see if the bone could be sawed through like it was on the victim, and when they try it, the saw jams. They find that the electricity powering the saw would stop before it was cut through. Stella investigates the crime scene and finds prints on a fuse box.

These prints are found to be from an EMT that was previously in the apartment with Mac and Stella. This explains why the clocks are behind in the apartment; a fuse was blown. The EMT performed the surgery, finished it with a handsaw when the fuse blew, and left.

The EMT was paid to perform the surgery for $10,000.
