Kira must put aside personal feelings and teach Damar and his men, who are in hiding underground, the skills needed for a successful resistance. To lessen the Cardassians' abasement at having to accept a Bajoran's help and to give her presence added authority, she receives a Starfleet commission and uniform. Damar lets go of past animosity towards Kira and asks for his friend's support, but Rusot shows his resentment in attempts to provoke her. Kira's suggestions, such as having to attack their own people, are hard to swallow, but Damar concedes her points and silences Rusot's protests.

"You need a lesson in humility. I'm going to see that you get it." -- Winn

Now knowing his true identity, Kai Winn wants little more to do with Dukat than is necessary for her task, and keeps searching for a means of freeing the evil ones from their prison. When Dukat sneaks a look at the Kosst Amojan, its pages meant only for the Kai's eyes, orange energy flares into his own and leaves him blinded. For his arrogance, Winn throws him out in the streets, leaving him a beggar until the Pah-wraiths return his sight.

Answer: Their ships are unaffected by the Breen weapon

"The glory will be ours and ours alone." -- Gowron

Of all 312 Allied ships at Chin'toka, only one Klingon Bird-of-Prey with a uniquely modified warp core was unaffected by the Breen's energy weapon. Martok orders the rest of the fleet to make the same modification. With the Romulan and Starfleet ships still vulnerable, the weakened borders are defended by the Klingons alone. Gowron, however, an inexperienced tactician next to Martok, plans to go on the offensive in the face of twenty-to-one odds, a strategy met with misgivings from Worf and Martok.

Answer: The medical files he received from Starfleet were falsified

"I saw it with my own eyes not seven years ago!" -- Julian

Odo stoically accepts the news from Julian, and tries to hide early symptoms of the virus from Kira. Searching for a cure, Julian cuts through much red tape to get Odo's files from Starfleet Medical, but he recognizes their scan as an impossible match to one he saw seven years ago taken by Dr. Mora, a deception suggestive of Section 31. This, and the discovery that Odo contracted the morphogenic virus while on Earth, convinces Julian and Miles that he was infected by Section 31 in an attempt to commit genocide, and that Section 31 has the cure Odo needs.

Answer: Dying

"The Klingon Empire is dying. And I think it deserves to die." -- Ezri

Worf solicits Ezri's opinion on the matter as a fellow member of the House of Martok, but Ezri feels a bit differently about the Klingon Empire than her predecessors, to Worf's chagrin. She points out how politically corrupt it has grown while keeping up a facade of honor: even Worf has participated in cover-ups for the so-called good of the Empire. If someone as honorable as he tolerates Gowron, she believes, there is little hope for the Empire's survival.

Answer: She puts the same question to him

"Yeah, Damar, what kind of people give those orders?" -- Kira

The Founder takes steps to ensure that Damar's rebellion doesn't grow by trying to turn public opinion against him, and by emphasizing to Cardassian citizens the price of disloyalty. His price is the loss of his family. Already grieved by this news, Damar exits the cabin when Kira's reply reminds him of the acts committed against Bajor by his own people. She instantly regrets the poor timing, but Garak assures her that the dose of "cold water" about the past might do him good. "If he's the man we hope him to be, then the pain of this news made him more receptive to what you said, not less."

Answer: They're Odo

"The three of us should be able to handle one Bajoran woman..." -- Garak

Before the team departs for the Kelvas system, Garak inadvertently catches Odo resting and sees the true severity his illness, worsened by frequent shapeshifting. Odo swears Garak to secrecy, but Kira already knows and respects his wishes by ignoring the truth. Upon entering the Jem'Hadar ship, the Cardassians are greeted by their countrymen, who recognize Damar and wish him luck. Kira is bound by what appear to be handcuffs, but they melt from her hands and disappear into a grate below: Odo!

Answer: Tell Starfleet Medical that they have found a cure

"When did you get so devious?" -- Julian, to Miles

With Dr. Bashir's research hitting dead ends at every turn, Miles reminds his friend that even the entire Dominion can't find a cure. Their search for Section 31 has not been productive, and Julian refuses to present the situation to Captain Sisko. Frustrated, he harshly orders Miles out of his office. After some of Keiko's crab rolls and an apology, Miles presents his plan to bring Section 31 to them: a false message to Starfleet Medical saying that Julian has a cure may just bring an operative out of the shadows, to destroy the work that endangers their genocidal plot.

Answer: No

"Hail, Martok! Leader of the Empire! Leader of destiny." -- Worf

With staunch loyalty, Martok refuses to challenge Gowron, who soon proposes another ill-advised attack. So, Worf stands up to Gowron: "You have dishonored yourself and the Empire, and you are not worthy to lead the Council." Such a charge can only be answered with bat'leths! Their duel ends when Worf fatally plunges a shard of his broken bat'leth into Gowron's torso. Martok hails Worf as the new chancellor, but Worf "thrusts power" on Martok, placing the chancellor's cloak on his able shoulders.

Answer: Rusot

"He was my friend. But his Cardassia's dead, and it won't be coming back." -- Damar

With Odo disguised as the Female Shapeshifter, the team captures the bridge, but as they wait for the weapon to be installed, Odo collapses, unable to carry on. Rusot renews an earlier altercation that ended with Kira getting the upper hand and points a phaser at her, appealing to Damar to shoot Garak and allow him to kill Kira so that the old Cardassian Empire can be restored. When the bridge receives word that the weapon's installation is complete, Damar kills Rusot, choosing to lead Cardassia into a new era. The ship departs, and Kira holds out hope that Julian has found a cure for Odo, who is dying.
