Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Answer:
The second series of the UK version of 'The Traitors', hosted by Claudia Winkleman, was commissioned on the back of the success of the original series that took the country by storm. Claudia guides contestants - designated Traitors or Faithful - through what is in essence a murder mystery set in a castle in the beautiful Scottish Highlands, north of Inverness.
A small group of players that are designated "Traitors" must scheme their way to the end of the game by strategically - or not-so-strategically - murdering (Traitor decision only) and banishing (all group decision) Faithfuls. If a Traitor rouses the suspicions of the group, they too can also be banished when the whole group meets for its daily vote at the "round table". Any player who finds a shield during a task is protected from murder for one night. This process continues until a final cohort of players are left; if any of the remaining players are Traitors, then the Traitors take the prize fund whereas if all Traitors are eliminated, the prize fund is split between the remaining Faithful.
It isn't just Traitors who have secrets as everybody has a game to play and a plan to execute. One of the biggest deceptions of the series was that Diane (Faithful, Murdered in episode 7) and Ross (Faithful-cum-Traitor) were related - mother and son. Ross revelled in the moment as he announced the news to the remaining players upon his banishment in episode 10. Diane's "death" was perhaps one of the most iconic of the first two series, with Ross having to place a rose in his mum's coffin just prior to burial (definitely worth watching the series to find out more!).
Paul (Traitor, Banished in episode 8) was the big personality of the first half of the game but eventually overplayed his hand; after a prolonged dispute at the round table with fellow Traitor, Miles, Paul eventually had to make his exit.
The mix of songs used as background music to the series really adds to the ambiance, creating the appropriate vibes to accompany all the scheming, banishment, and late-night murders! Chris Isaak's 'Wicked Game' is an iconic song in its own right, but the remix by Ursine Vulpine & Anna is an inspired choice for use at key moments of the show - "what a wicked game you play".
Towards the tail end of the show, Zack (Faithful, Murdered in episode 11) - one of the more analytical players - goes down a rabbit hole and concocts a theory that either Evie or Jasmine "must" be a traitor. This led to Evie and Jasmine turning on each other during a pivotal meeting at the round table; neither player was a Traitor and Faithful in-fighting led to their successive banishments - Jasmine in Episode 11 and Evie in episode 12. The Traitors watched on!
Welshman, Andrew, was a reluctant Traitor who actually started out as a Faithful before being recruited to the Traitor cause in episode 7. He made the final four (Andrew, Jaz, Mollie and Harry) but felt very insecure in his position as fellow Traitor, Harry, had made a habit of banishing other Traitors throughout the series and Mollie had aired her suspicions that the Welshman was not a Faithful. In the last chance saloon, Andrew vocalised his concerns that Harry "may" be a Traitor (Traitors cannot officially "out" each other but there are ways and means) but the group all voted that Andrew should be banished.
Jaz is perhaps the only player to have had any meaningful suspicion that Harry was a Traitor but one of the main storylines was that Mollie developed a very strong bond with Harry and trusted him implicitly. Jaz - a Faithful - decided that the remaining three players should "banish again" by choosing the red flame rather than the green flame. He had to convince Mollie - a Faithful - of the fact that Harry was a Traitor. The trust that Mollie had in Harry was so strong that she could not correctly evaluate the evidence presented before her - though she did write "Harry" on her chalkboard before changing her mind - and she instead chose to banish Jaz. Mollie had aligned with a Traitor and a compelling moment in British television saw Harry reveal to her his deception - the game concluding with brutal betrayal.
