Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First order of business is actually surviving the damage-inducing falls the player must take to properly explore the hole. For that, they'll need which ring?

Answer: Silvercat Ring

The Silvercat Ring greatly reduces or outright negates fall damage taken. It can be purchased for 13,400 Souls from Sweet Shalquoir, who just so happens to live right next to the hole in Majula.
2. If surviving various falls isn't possible or desirable, the player could head to Earthen Peak and gather the services of an NPC who can provide another way to safely explore the hole. What NPC is this?

Answer: Laddersmith Gilligan

For 12,000 Souls, Gilligan can build a ladder that will safely and effortlessly allow the player to reach the bottom of the hole. For 7,000 Souls, he can make a ladder that allows access to a door containing the Dragon Talon key item. He will either come to Majula once the player approaches him at Earthen Peak, or he will do so once Mytha the Baneful Queen has been defeated.
3. The easiest place to access once going through the hole is the Grave of Saints. This area is entirely optional, but provides a boss fight if the player would like. Who is the boss?

Answer: Royal Rat Vanguard

The fight is basically against a giant swarm of rats in a small room with narrow hallways of sorts. The actual boss rat itself doesn't arrive immediately, and will only do so once a few rats are slain first. Once this happens, simply killing the boss rat wins the fight and sends the others scurrying away.
4. The boss soul obtained from the Grave of Saints may be turned into a Pyromancy. Which spell?

Answer: Toxic Mist

As the name implies, Toxic Mist spawns a cloud of toxic which afflicts enemies within it with Toxic if they stay in the cloud long enough. This can be really helpful against slow bosses with huge healthpools such as the Ancient Dragon or The Rotten.
5. At the end of the Grave of Saints lies an NPC who can welcome the player into a covenant. What covenant can the player join here?

Answer: Rat King

If you're interested in early level PvP, you've come to the right place. Upon joining the Rat King Covenant, the player can immediately gain the ability to automatically appear in other players' worlds as an arbiter spirit if they have identical Soul Memories and traverse within the Grave of Saints area.
6. Early down the hole in Majula, the player will find a large stone door atop a stony platform accessed after they climb a ladder to reach it. This door needs the Forgotten Key to unlock it. Where can this key be found?

Answer: Black Gulch

The key can be looted by defeating the two Elite Giants hiding out underneath the Black Gulch. These are two very powerful enemies in a very dark room, making the endeavor out to be quite challenging.
7. Inside the Forgotten Key door are a few treasure chests, but the main loot based highlight is a corpse where the Dragon Talon is looted. With the Dragon Talon, the player can now access a major portion of the game. What map can they go to?

Answer: Shulva, Sanctum City

The key will only actually be on this corpse if either playing the "Scholar of the First Sin" version of the game, or if the player has purchased the "Crown of the Sunken King" DLC pack for the original game.
8. After either traveling through or skipping over the Grave of Saints, the player will eventually stumble upon The Gutter. Who is the boss of The Gutter?

Answer: Nobody

There is simply not a boss at The Gutter whatsoever. Unfortunately, this means the player cannot summon help and must traverse the area completely solo.
9. As the player makes their way through The Gutter, the opportunity to loot an interesting greatshield presents itself. The Wicked Eye Greatshield has horrible stats for its weight and class, but tries to make up for this with a unique side effect. What does this greatshield do?

Answer: Heal the player every time they kill something

This is the same exact effect and healing potency as the Ring of the Evil Eye +0, and it stacks with that ring even at +2 to boot. It's absorptions are frankly horrible, being roughly on par with the Twingod Dragon Wooden Greatshield despite being more than twice as heavy.

This overall makes the shield difficult to effectively use, especially in boss fights where it's niche diminishes in value entirely unless it's a gank fight.
10. Once the player reaches the end of The Gutter, they'll find a way out blocked off by easily smashable vases. This is a trap that will greatly punish the player for simply smashing these vases without thought. What must the player do to avoid this trap?

Answer: Destroy them from a distance

If the player simply approaches these vases and smashes them, a large amount of corrosive acid will spill out onto them from the vases, which will destroy the player's gear virtually guaranteed. As such, simply destroying them from a distance with a projectile of sorts will disarm the trap completely.
11. The player will finally arrive in the Black Gulch after clearing The Gutter. It may not initially seem it, but this is a very popular farming spot for most players, as the Darksuckers drop very useful loot as an uncommon and very rare drop. Which of the following can these enemies potentially drop?

Answer: Titanite Chunk

These enemies have a 2% chance to drop Large Titanite Shards and a 0.5% chance to drop Titanite Chunks. These values can be manipulated with various pieces of equipment such as the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring.
12. While Darksuckers are worth farming, so too are Cragslippers. Bizarrely, Cragslippers have a very, very small chance to drop which Hex when defeated?

Answer: Dead Again

When cast, Dead Again will take any locations where an enemy has been slain, spawn a corpse briefly only to then cause the corpse to violently explode. This is a very popular Hex for invasion purposes, as an invader can enter areas heavily congested with enemies, force the host to have to deal with the enemies, then use this Hex to turn that position against the host in a potentially lethal way.
13. The run up to the boss of the Black Gulch is notoriously irritating. That said, the player can mitigate this problem almost entirely by accessing a 'secret' bonfire of sorts. What item will they need to do this?

Answer: Fragrant Branch of Yore

There is a petrified statue standing directly in front of a small path leading to a small cave where a bonfire is positioned. Simply using a Fragrant Branch of Yore and then killing the enemy once they're unfrozen will grant access to this bonfire.
14. The boss of this area is The Rotten, an Old Great One predictably representing a difficulty spike for the area. The player does not have to confront him alone, as the game offers two different NPCs as summons to fight him. Who is one of them?

Answer: Lucatiel of Mirrah

Lucatiel must be spoken to beneath the Black Gulch for her summon sign to appear. Once done, her sign will be right next to the secret bonfire. The player can also call upon Bashful Ray for assistance should they desire it.
15. When defeated, The Rotten's soul can be turned into a returning weapon from "Dark Souls 1" which has been slightly modified in this game. What weapon is this?

Answer: Butcher Knife

Here, the Butcher Knife has received a new moveset, with much more horizontal reach on its basic attack and a less cumbersome heavy that serve to make the weapon faster and easier to use. It retains its heal per hit, as it will heal the player for 8% of the damage dealt every time they land a hit.
