Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Star Festival occurs once every how often?

Answer: Every one hundred years

As the story goes, every hundred years, a comet appears over the Mushroom Kingdom and in the first year of its sighting, a series of shooting stars landed and were collected to make the first Power Star. Because of this, every hundred years, the Star Festival is held, and on this occasion, just as Mario arrives at the castle on the Princess' request, Bowser decides to strike, hoisting her castle into outer space and sending Mario careening into the cosmos.

Fortunately, Mario will encounter Rosalina and the Lumas and be tasked with hunting down the Power Stars and Grand Stars around the galaxies. In doing this, he can hunt down Bowser and, once again, save Peach and the Mushroom Kingdom.
2. From the Comet Observatory, Mario can visit Domes. Which is not amongst these?

Answer: The Ballroom

The Comet Observatory, as Mario will discover, is in hibernation near his home planet. With Bowser having stolen all of the Power Stars and the Grand Stars that fuel the ship, there's little to do but investigate the several Domes located throughout the Observatory and use them to reach the distant Galaxies that contain the necessary items. Each of these Domes is named after a different room occupied by Rosalina and her crew, so you have locations like the Terrace Dome, the Fountain Dome, and the Bedroom Dome (amongst others).
3. Rosalina is supported by a number of star creatures known by what collective name?

Answer: The Lumas

Once Mario starts wandering through the cosmos he'll meet not only the owner of the Comet Observatory, Rosalina, but also all of her helpers, the Lumas, who can be found throughout the game in all manners of supportive positions. In addition to being helpful toolgivers and positive thinkers, these star-shaped beings also show up to consume Star Bits, creating new Galaxies from the hub world to give Mario even more opportunities to progress to the center of the universe.
4. Throughout the game, Mario is required to visit numerous Galaxies to collect Power Stars. How many can he find?

Answer: 121

This number seems to be close-to-retained from both "Super Mario 64" and "Super Mario Sunshine" as both have 120 totals as well (for Power Stars and Shine Sprites, respectively). Though Mario does not need to collect all of them to wrap up his adventure, there are numerous benchmarks that must be hit to unlock different locations throughout the game. What this boils down to is needing to collect at least half of the game's star total to reach Bowser's Galaxy Reactor, the final boss level. Completing that technically saves Princess Peach.

There is one more Power Star Mario can get, but not until he finishes the game completely.
5. Unless upgraded, Mario's Life Meter contains how many segments when full?

Answer: Three

Although earlier "Mario" platformers have given Mario a bit more life to work with, the Life Meter in "Super Mario Galaxy" only has three wedges, greatly reducing the amount of heavy damage he can take (though unless he's outright squashed every hit is a single wedge).

This Life Meter can double, however, if he locates red and yellow Life Mushrooms in certain Galaxies. This being said, taking enough damage to knock out three health will remove the second Meter altogether.
6. Which new Mario suit is introduced in this game?

Answer: Bee Mario

Appearing in one of the game's earliest Galaxy's the Bee Mushroom can transform Mario into a bee until he's hit or falls into water, and in this form he can buzz up into the air for a short time, hang onto honeyed wall panels, and help the bees that reside in a small number of the game's locations.

It's not the only transformation Mario can make though-- he can also find the Spring Mushroom and the Boo Mushroom, transforming into those for specific Missions as well.
7. There are five different Prankster Comets in "Super Mario Galaxy". Which one appears the least?

Answer: Fast-Foe Comet

The Fast-Foe Comet, which only appears twice, is yellow and only flies toward the Beach Bowl Galaxy and the Toy Time Galaxy, creating faster enemies when it does. All other Pranksters appear much more with the Speedy Comet (red) requiring speed runs of Missions in four Galaxies, the Cosmic Comet (blue) making Mario race against a cosmic doppelganger, the Daredevil Comet (white) forcing Mario to face bosses with one health, and the Purple Comet having him collect Purple Coins wherever it flies.
8. Locating the Green Power Stars will grant you access to which of these?

Answer: The Planet of Trials

There are only three Green Power Stars hidden in the Galaxies that Mario encounters throughout the Comet Observatory, but finding them all will unlock a special Green Launch Star near the Garage (in front of the Terrace Dome) that will fly Mario out to the Planet of Trials.

There, a trio of Green Lumas will transform to send Mario to three separate Galaxies, each home to a single Power Star at the end of a complex course that Mario will need all of his dexterity to complete.
9. Mario will fight Bowser in 'The Fate of the Universe'. What will result?

Answer: A black hole will form

Once Mario has enough Power Stars and Grand Stars to fuel the Comet Observatory, Rosalina can fly in to the centre of the universe to get him closer to Bowser and Princess Peach. Upon arriving, Bowser will enact his plan, creating a new Galaxy from which he can rule a great galactic empire with Peach by his side. What will result is a three-part fight on planets that bring Mario closer to the middle of everything, and if he succeeds, Bowser will be cast into the fire, deciding the fate of the universe.

Another adventure concludes with a happy ending with the help of the Lumas, even if Bowser manages, narrowly, to escape. A black hole will form, sucking everything into it, but Mario, himself, will be saved only to find that history, once it passes through the event horizon, repeats itself once again...though not in quite the same way. He, Peach, and Bowser will land back at the castle.
10. Although Mario will cap out on the amount of Power Stars he can collect, the player can, post-game, complete the adventure as which alternative character to double their total?

Answer: Luigi

For the completionists out there, if you save Princess Peach in the final mission and collect all one hundred twenty Power Stars in the game, you'll be able to unlock Luigi as a playable character and all one hundred twenty Power Stars (including those that required Luigi in the main game) could be recaptured with him. Upon getting all one hundred twenty of those, both Mario and Luigi could return to the Castle Gardens to get one last Power Star each (meaning that they could, combined, get two hundred forty-two Power Stars). That would mark the end of the adventure.
