Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Peewee Piranha, the first boss of the game, comes from which of these?

Answer: Egg

Mario's very first Mission of the game takes him to the Sky Station Galaxy where, in learning about the basic controls and actions he can take throughout the game, he'll come to a concluding battle against Peewee Piranha. This foe won't be too much different from Dino Piranha from the first "Super Mario Galaxy"; you need to strike his rear with a spin attack to damage him.

This being said, you'll need to crack the eggshell still covering his body and, potentially, chase him around the planet. It takes six total hits to end this battle, and that's keeping in mind that his egg will reform halfway through.
2. King Lakitu flies around on which of these?

Answer: Storm cloud

Found in the Yoshi Star Galaxy's second Mission, this particular fight will have its mechanics telegraphed as soon as you touch down in the area. With Yoshi as an asset, you'll be able to eat up Spinies and use them as ammunition to shoot at barricades or far-away foes (with the Wii Remote).

When you come across King Lakitu and his storm cloud, it'll be much of the same, but you'll have to do this while dodging the Spinies he throws and the massive lighting blasts he'll lay out over the small battle arena. Three hits and he'll be done for.
3. Which item does Mario need to use to defeat Digga-Leg?

Answer: Spin Drill

One of the earliest items Mario can pick up in the game, the Spin Drill debuts in the third Galaxy he finds-- the Spin-Dig Galaxy-- where he'll learn how to drill his way through soft-enough ground to pass through otherwise impassable obstacles and reach higher plateaus.

The first Mission here, Digga-Leg's Planet, has him running into the boss at the end and facing off against it on a circular world where the Spin Drills are necessary not just for breaking through, but for cracking the barrier that the boss has created to seal away the Power Star. With enough timing, and three hits, Mario should win out.
4. You'll first encounter Gobblegut on Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla. Where will you encounter him again (in his black form)?

Answer: Battle Belt Galaxy

The first world boss of the game, Gobblegut appears after a short run through Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla wherein you'll land on a small, dirt planet and it will emerge from the cosmos for a snack. The battle is quite straightforward-- as Gobblegut digs in to eat, you need to hit the glowing body segments that pass by. There are three at first, but three more appear when those are destroyed.

Gobblegut returns as a later boss (though he'll change colours to black) in the Battle Belt Galaxy at which point he will be more fiery than usual.
5. Bugaboom is only reachable if you do which of these in the Puzzle Plank Galaxy?

Answer: Feed a Hungry Luma

Hungry Lumas start appearing with more frequency once you dig into the second World, and Puzzle Plank Galaxy, the first Galaxy amongst those found there, is the first opportunity you'll have. Quite early in this level you'll find a Hungry Luma asking for 70 Coins, but this isn't too high a price when you realize they're prepared to create a massive tree planet, home to the Bugaboom boss fight.

There, you'll need to crush down on its back three times, and you'll have the Cloud Flower to help you along with this (instead of the Bee Mushroom, as was the case in the first "Super Mario Galaxy" game).
6. Rollodillo is fought on a spherical planet.

Answer: True

Rollodillo, found at the end of the Boulder Bowl Galaxy's first Mission, Rock and Rollodillo, is encountered on a small, metal planet containing a Rock Mushroom, so the implication should be clear-- Mario needs to become a rock, and roll around the planet to strike at the foe.

This larger boss is armored, naturally, so Mario will need to strike at a weak point. Fortunately, and not unlike Peewee Piranha, the weak spot is on the rear, so it's not much different from the very first boss battle of the game, except Mario will need to get the hang of his new attack power.
7. Sorbetti's weak point is which of these?

Answer: Nose

Mario will have to roll his way into a blizzard in the second Mission of the Freezy Flake Galaxy, and that means feeling around until he gets to a small planet that turns out to be a boss. Sorbetti is a large ball of ice, and when Mario lands on a planet that can accommodate a battle, it'll end up rolling around, flattening everything it its path.

The only way to win this battle is by getting out in front of Sorbetti at the right time and spin attacking to hit his big red nose. Three of these ends the fight and awards a Power Star.
8. Megahammer is a giant robot used by who of these?

Answer: Bowser Jr.

The final boss of World 3, Megahammer is the creation that Bowser Jr. will slot himself into so that he can fight from the safety of his protected, floating cockpit, but as with any fight in "Super Mario Galaxy 2", it's just a matter of knowing the right spots to hit.

In this case, the spots to hit are the large panels of glass, two on the front and one on the back, that you can destroy with Bullet Bills used by the boss as ammunition. Once those three panels are fully shattered, you can work away at the cockpit as well and get your Grand Star out of the fight.
9. Inadvertently, the only way to defeat Glamdozer is with which of these attacks?

Answer: Ground Pound

Found at the end of the Flip-Flopping in Flipsville Mission in the Flipsville Galaxy, many of the learnings you'll likely end up taking will involve the ability to flip between variable directions of gravitational force by pounding through grated portals, allowing you to bump into any enemies on the other side of the grate to damage them.

This will be the whole gimmick behind the massive Glamdozer, who'll move on top of these panels to give Mario the only opportunity at her weak spot. Glamdozer will block some of these off with lava, but the battle arena has numerous panels to choose from.
10. You'll face Squizzard on which of these World 5 Galaxies?

Answer: Slipsand Galaxy

Squizzard takes up a lot of space in visits to this sandy Galaxy midway through World 5. Here, Mario will be required to grab a Fire Flower (there will be two rotating around the shifting, sandy battle arena) and lob fireballs into the boss' open mouth.

The problem is that Squizzard will toss spiky hazards and, eventually, large bombs into the ring, forcing Mario to maneuver himself with precise timing to be in a good spot to attack. A later iteration of this fight comes when the Prankster Comet arrives here.
11. Prince Pikante rides around in a tank in which environment?

Answer: Ice-covered

Found in the polar opposites of the Shiverburn Galaxy, Prince Pikante emulates King Kaliente in that he's a massive octopus-like creature who fires melons-- flaming and otherwise-- at Mario in an attempt to bring him down. The catch is that the good prince rides around on an icy arena in a big, green tank that also fires flaming melons. Mario has to hit the correct ones out of the air, bouncing them back at the boss, to bring him down.

It'll take three melons to end the fight.
12. When Mario does the Daredevil run for the Boomsday Machine, which of these is true?

Answer: Mario must cross the entire Galaxy to reach the boss

Coming in at the end of World 5, Bowser Jr.'s Boom Bunker is home to the Boomsday Machine, and your first trip there will have you crossing a straightforward series of planets to fight Bowser Jr. in a growing tower of terror. Using the Cloud Flower you have to ascend to the top of the vehicle and ground pound to smash the enemy's cockpit three times.

The Daredevil Run, brought on by the Prankster Star, forces Mario not only to face the boss again with 1 health point, but the level preceding the fight, replacing one precarious planet with a sea of deadly poison. There is, fortunately, a midway point to save your progress.
13. The Throwback Galaxy is home to which past Mario foe?

Answer: The Whomp King

The Whomp King, at one time, ruled over the top of Whomp's Fortress in "Super Mario 64". The Throwback Galaxy gives a nod back to that, faithfully recreating that early Mario platforming level as its own planet, and the first Mission there is to head to the same spot, fight the Whomp King, and get the Power Star.

The difference is that, firstly, you'll fight this boss elsewhere on the map, and secondly, that he's much larger than ever before. The aim is still to wait until he falls on his face and ground pound the weak spot on his back, but now you have to watch for his little minions and his seismic forces.
14. How many times will Mario face Bowser in the game?

Answer: Three

Bowser is faced at the end of every second World, so you'll encounter him in Bowser's Lava Lair (World 2), Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet (World 4), and Bowser's Galaxy Generator (World 6). All of these fights are fairly similar though the difficulty will increase with new attacks and obstacles in each iteration.

The point, on its own, will be to damage Bowser by ground pounding golden orbs that he creates so that they collide with him and do damage. With enough hits, he'll shrink down and fly off somewhere closer to the center of the universe.

In the final battle, this will extend to a last fight as space rushes by, though the main mechanic will stay the same.
15. Which boss does not appear as part of the Throwback Throwdown Mission in the Boss Blitz Galaxy?

Answer: Tarantox

Though all of these bosses appear in the first "Super Mario Galaxy", Tarantox doesn't make a return in this game. Instead, you'll end up facing four (and a half) different bosses of yesteryear in this World S Galaxy wherein you'll go through a gauntlet of battles to get the Power Star at the end (and you'll do it again in a five minute time limit for the Prankster Comet).

In order, you face Dino Piranha, King Kaliente, Major Burrows, Bouldergeist, and Fiery Dino Piranha.
