Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To start "Super Mario Galaxy 2" off, Mario is invited to Peach's castle for which of these?

Answer: Cake

A new story, though one not dissimilar to the first "Super Mario Galaxy", this game starts with a rain of shimmering stardust that falls on the Mushroom Kingdom for the first time in a century. Princess Peach invites Mario over for cake (classic!), but as the Star Festival commences, Mario will arrive to find Bowser already wreaking havoc.

He'll stumble upon Master Luma en route, but by then, Bowser will abscond with the Princess (again!) and head off to the center of the universe.
2. Which of these characters leads the crew on the Starship Mario?

Answer: Lubba

As soon as Mario heads into space he'll dive into his first Galaxy, the Sky Station Galaxy, where he'll have to get the hang of travelling through the planets and fight his first boss. Completing this, however, will open up access to the Spaceship Mario, a planet which will take on Mario's likeness and allow him to fly through the worlds of the game.

Here, Mario will meet a massive Luma, Lubba, who leads the Luma crew on the ship. They need the Power Stars that Bowser stole, so it'll be easy to work together with them and anyone else the 'faceship' takes on while piloting around the cosmos.
3. Yoshi makes a triumphant return in this game. Where can he be found?

Answer: In an egg

And Yoshi appears quite early as well-- earlier than Luigi, in fact. In the game's second Galaxy, the Yoshi Star Galaxy, Mario can break Yoshi free of the egg he's been placed into and start using him for specific Missions, using his flutter jump ability, his long tongue, and his tendency to eat anything with a special power to succeed in collecting the Power Stars.
4. Which of these power-ups does not appear in the game?

Answer: Cat Suit

Though the Cat Suit will appear in later "Mario" games, it's the one from this set that does not help Mario cross the cosmos. This doesn't diminish from a set of strong items, though, as Mario gets the Bee Mushroom, Boo Mushroom, and Spring Mushroom back from the first "Super Mario Galaxy".

They are added back in alongside the Cloud Flower, the Rock Mushroom, and the various Yoshi foods that power up Mario's dinosaur buddy.
5. It may seem confusing, but Mario encounters many Worlds-- areas containing Galaxies-- on his map. How many of these are there in the game?

Answer: 7

There are six core Worlds in the game, all accessible from the map he has on the Starship Mario, and he can maneuver himself along pre-determined lines between the worlds, unlocking new paths as he collects Power Stars or pays his way (through Hungry Lumas).

At the end of each World is a boss area, a few of which will pit him against Bowser. There's also a seventh World-- World S-- with tough trials to test your Mario platforming skills.
6. In order to attract Prankster Comets to each Galaxy, Mario should collect which of these, located throughout the worlds?

Answer: Comet Medals

Each Galaxy Mario encounters contains a single Comet Medal, a large coin-like cylinder bearing the logo for a Prankster Star, and by collecting this, Mario will make it significantly more likely that a Prankster Comet fly into orbit around that destination.

This is quite the important occurrence since each comet will result in another accessible Power Star, and generally only for completing a Mission you've already completed...just with more unique restrictions and stipulations.
7. Some Prankster Comets will create Power Stars of what colour?

Answer: Green

If Mario can collect all the Power Stars in the game and complete the final Bowser Mission one more time, he'll ensure the arrival of the Green Prankster Comets, which will land on all relevant Galaxies in every World after Rosalina tells a story about them. With this, Mario can collect up to three new Green Stars per Galaxy, all of which will be found in harder-to-locate spots in each location.

The catch is that while some Galaxies will have these all in one Mission, others will split them out, so Mario will need to scour the Worlds, again, to be a completionist.
8. How many total Power Stars are found in "Super Mario Galaxy 2"?

Answer: 242

It's an extensive amount. If you reach Bowser in the final castle and have every available Power Star in the game to that point, you'll end up with 120 Stars, which is pretty typical for 3D "Mario" console platformers. Where this changes is in the post-game content since Mario can also obtain 120 Green Power Stars at this point and then, after those are found, an additional two stars for the last Galaxy in the game.
9. Mario requires Yoshi in order to deal the final attack against Bowser at the end of the final battle.

Answer: False

For the grand finale, Mario has to enter Bowser's Galaxy Generator and head through the Fortified Fortress using all the new items and techniques at his disposal, inevitably breaking into the throne room (with the help of the Lumas) for one last battle.

Here, the battle plays out similar to the previous two Bowser fights where he'll punch orbs out of the ground and Mario will need to pound them back. When the battle seems over, however, it won't be. Bowser will send Mario careening through space and he'll need to punt more orbs through the cosmos to bring Bowser to a definitive end. Peach will return on the final Grand Star and the pair will reunite on the Starship Mario in time to watch Master Luma reunite with Rosalina and the Comet Observatory.
10. The final Galaxy that can be accessed in the game is which of the following?

Answer: Grandmaster Galaxy

Though Mario and Peach will be returned to the Mushroom Kingdom and their home Galaxy, the game doesn't stop there. Post-Bowser, Mario can continue collecting Power Stars, finishing up his original total while also gaining access to Green Stars and a secret seventh World-- World S-- containing yet more challenging Galaxies. If Mario can get all two hundred forty Power Stars, he'll access the Grandmaster Galaxy for two final Missions, the hardest of the game, and that will mark the end of the adventure for the completionists out there.
