Star Trek: Picard Trivia Questions

1. Early in the episode Picard comments to Laris that the day was his favorite of the year. What culminating event made Picard so happy and proud?

From Quiz
"Star Trek: Picard" S2E:1 "The Star Gazer"

Answer: It was the last day of the season for harvesting grapes.

The harvesting of grapes on Chateau Picard involves the use of both machinery and physical labor. After the bottles have been labeled and corked Picard and Laris enjoy each other's company and Picard tells her that the end of the harvest is by far his favorite day of the year.

2. When we first see Picard he is still under house arrest. What synthetic animal does he see flying away and comment "Lucky you"?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E10

Answer: Butterfly

The synthetic butterflies are shown quite often in the scenes on the planet of Coppelius. They were designed by Altan Inigo Soong and they are seen interacting with Agnes, Picard and Soji.

3. Similar to Mars in our Solar System, what number planet is Soji's home planet, Coppelius, in the Ghulion System?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E9

Answer: 4th

Soji's home planet, Coppelius, is initially referred to as Ghulion IV as it is the fourth planet in the Ghulion System. The planet is described as being hot and smaller and denser than Earth. It is orbited by two red moons.

4. The episode "Broken Pieces" begins in the year 2385 with a group of Zhat Vash led by General Oh. What does she tell them is the name of an encoded message from the planet Aia warning about the dangers of synthetic lifeforms?

From Quiz "Star Trek Picard" S1:E8

Answer: Admonition

The episode opens with 12 women surrounding a lit structure known as the Admonition that contains a message. General (later promoted to Commander) Oh tells the other Zhat Vash that it is extremely powerful and that they may not survive if they look inside it. Nearly all of them except the Romulans Ramdha and Narissa die or get very sick after looking at the Admonition. Little do they know, the Admonition was created by synthetics and when non-synthetic lifeforms look at it they do not see the true message.

5. "Nepenthe" opens with a flashback to Dr. Agnes Jurati at the Daystrom Institute, shortly after meeting Picard (in episodes 1 & 2). Who visits her and convinces her to join Picard's mission?

From Quiz 1.7 "Nepenthe"

Answer: Commodore Oh

Commodore Oh (Tamlyn Tomita) has already been revealed to the audience as a secret member of the Romulan Tal Shiar and the Zhat Vash, bent on destroying all synthetic life. When she visits Dr. Jurati (Alison Pill), she uses a mind meld to give Agnes a vision of 'The Admonition' - a warning against synthetic life from hundreds of thousands of years ago. Seeing the apocalyptic vision causes Agnes to willingly go along with Oh's plan, which we already know resulted in her killing Dr. Bruce Maddox. Agnes is also given an edible tracking device to swallow, and this results in complications for the events of this episode.

6. In the opening scene of "The Impossible Box", Soji is having a dream from when she was a 'child'. Who does she see in the dream?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Impossible Box"

Answer: Her father in his lab

Considering that Soji was never actually a child, it is interesting that she would be programmed to be able to have dreams, especially one of her nonexistent childhood. When she awakens and tells Narek about her dream, he realizes that it is the key to finding out what he has been trying to learn all along - the location of her 'home planet', where the Zhat Vash believe a community of androids exists.

7. "Stardust City Rag" begins with a flashback of Seven of Nine attempting to rescue a former Borg who is having his implants forcibly extracted (while awake). Which former Borg was this, whom Seven met in the Delta Quadrant while on "Voyager"?

From Quiz 1.5 "Stardust City Rag"

Answer: Icheb

Icheb, Rebi, Mezoti and Azan were all rescued from the Borg as (already assimilated) children in the season six "Voyager" episode "Collective". Icheb (at the time portrayed by Manu Intiraymi) appeared in eleven episodes of the show, altogether. For "Picard" the role of Icheb was taken on by Casey King. His appearance in "Picard" shows him now as a Starfleet Lieutenant, but that doesn't stop his captors from cutting him up to remove his valuable Borg implants. Seven arrives and kills everyone in the process of rescuing Icheb, but it is too late to save him, and at Icheb's request, Seven ends his torment by shooting him.

8. "Absolute Candor" opens with another flashback to fourteen years ago, and this time we see Picard helping at the Romulan Relocation Hub, located on which planet in the Beta Quadrant?

From Quiz 1.4 "Absolute Candor"

Answer: Vashti

Vashti was originally a human colony on the edge of the Romulan Neutral Zone, but it was repurposed as a relocation hub for Romulans fleeing the impending supernova of their sun. Unfortunately, we see Captain Picard on Vashti as he learns of the synthetics' attack on Mars, and he rushes off with a promise to return. Flash forward to the present, and we learn that Picard never returned to Vashti, after the events of the attack led to the withdrawal of Federation support in the Romulan refugee relocation efforts.

9. "The End is the Beginning" starts with another flashback to the synth attack on Mars, followed by a meeting with Admiral Picard and Lieutenant Commander Raffi Musiker (14 years ago). What was NOT part of their discussion?

From Quiz 1.3 "The End is the Beginning"

Answer: Lieutenant Commander Data's 'daughters'

Knowledge of Data's twin 'daughters' Dahj and Soji does not happen until the current events of the series. This scene takes place 14 years ago as Picard comes out of a meeting with Starfleet brass about his proposal to aid the Romulan evacuation. The plan to use mothballed ships and reserve officers and synthetic labor is denied for multiple reasons, primary among them being the new ban on synthetic lifeforms. While discussing this factor, Musiker puts forward the idea that the Tal Shiar were behind the attack on Mars, but Picard dismisses the thought, unable to believe that they would cause an action that would adversely affect the evacuation efforts. In the end, Picard tells Musiker that he put an ultimatum to the council, threatening to resign if they did not comply... and they accepted his resignation.

10. Rather than opening with the show's musical theme, "Remembrance" begins with a song that recall's the wedding scene from 2002's "Star Trek: Nemesis". What Irving Berlin classic?

From Quiz 1.1 "Remembrance"

Answer: Blue Skies

"Star Trek: Nemesis" was the last appearance by any of the crew of "The Next Generation"'s USS Enterprise-D and -E. The scene in question occurs near the beginning of the film with Commander Riker and Counselor Troi tying the knot before Riker takes his own command, leaving Picard with Commander Data as his new first officer. And it is Data who sings "Blue Skies" as his tribute to the happy couple. This deliberate choice nicely bridges the gap in time since the last appearance while also connecting to Data's death (in that film) and his importance to the "Picard" storyline. And, of course, Brent Spiner reprised his role as Data for the episode, albeit in a dream.

11. Although his death is not shown on camera, Laris and Picard both talk longingly about her late husband. What was the name of Laris's Romulan husband who had died about a year and a half before the events of "The Star Gazer"?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S2E:1 "The Star Gazer"

Answer: Zhaban

Laris and Picard both give toasts to each other in different languages and then fondly talk about Zhaban and how they miss him. Laris tells Picard that Zhaban was actually betrothed to her at birth but over time they came to love each other. The role of Zhaban was played by the American actor Jamie McShane.

12. While under house arrest Picard is visited by Soji. When she tells him that she has no choice regarding acceding to the demands of Sutra, what does Picard tell her she has a failure of?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E10

Answer: Imagination

Throughout "Star Trek: Picard", Picard's character often tells others that they have to have a sense of imagination to solve difficult and seemingly impossible problems. Soji is initially unable to see of a way around signaling the other synthetic lifeforms via the message found in the Admonition. Picard tells Soji not to let the Romulans be right about her being the prophesied 'Destroyer'.

13. As La Sirena is getting close to Coppelius, it is met by a large, flowerlike object that knocks out the ship's power. What are these weapons called due to their appearance?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E9

Answer: Orchids

In addition to La Sirena, a Romulan spaceship and the Artifact (Borg Cube) were also nearing Coppelius when the orchids were sent into space to intercept them. The orchids effectively knocked out the power of the three spacecraft causing them to crash on the planet's surface. It is later mentioned that there are 10 remaining orchid weapons on the planet of Coppelius, not nearly enough to defend against the incoming Romulan army.

14. Feeling extreme guilt over killing Bruce Maddox and endangering the crew, what neurotoxin does Doctor Agnes Jurati inject herself with?

From Quiz "Star Trek Picard" S1:E8

Answer: Noranium hydride

While on Earth, Dr. Jurati had been approached by Commander Oh and shown the horrible images of the Admonition via a mind meld. This prompted Jurati to agree to infiltrate Picard's mission with the intention of killing Dr. Maddox and implanting a viridium tracking device on her. To neutralize the viridium tracking device, Jurati injects herself with noranium hydride that puts her into a coma but effectively disables the tracker.

15. What is "The Conclave of Eight"?

From Quiz 1.8 "Broken Pieces"

Answer: An octonary star system

When she originally heard the name, Raffi Musiker thought that the Conclave of Eight was the name of the group behind the attack on Mars. She was close, but didn't quite hit the mark. The Conclave of Eight referred to a unique octonary star system, also called the Eightfold Stars, where the planet was located on which the Zhat Vash discovered the Admonition. The planet is named Aia, but is called the "Grief Planet," discovered by the Romulans centuries previously. They discovered the memory repository left behind by the synthetics that had destroyed the civilization that had created them. The repository was meant for other synthetics to be able to follow or contact the original synthetic lifeforms, but the Romulans who experienced it saw it only as a warning against synthetic life (the Admonition). Raffi Musiker was portrayed by Michelle Hurd.

16. Aboard La Sirena, the crew are discussing the Borg and Picard's experiences with them. What does Picard vehemently claim about them, saying "They don't change! They ___________!"?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Impossible Box"

Answer: metastasize

Despite his seeming equanimity, the Borg remain a touchy topic for Picard. The experience of being assimilated (and restored) left an indelible mark. When Dr. Jurati asks if the Borg on the Artifact, having been severed from the Collective, are changed. Picard's angry response equated the Borg to a cancer.

17. Picard visits the Qowat Milat, who follow the Way of Absolute Candor. The nuns are raising an orphan boy named Elnor who has made a connection with Picard, and upon arriving, what gift does Picard have for him?

From Quiz 1.4 "Absolute Candor"

Answer: A copy of "The Three Musketeers"

The Qowat Milat (warrior nuns) are raising Elnor and training him in their ways, but because he is male, he can never truly be one of them. Their intent is to find a home for Elnor, but when the Federation withdraws its support from the relocation efforts, life on Vashti becomes too unstable, and the nuns choose to keep him with them. As a boy, Elnor is portrayed by Ian Nunney. Picard's gift of "The Three Musketeers" allows for a deeper connection with the boy, as he shares his love of D'Artagnan's adventure and his own love of fencing. Incidentally, the Way of Absolute Candor is what it sounds like - the nuns teach (and put into practice) truthfulness and expression of emotion without filter between thought and word - to the point of (as you might expect) bluntness.

18. Jean-Luc Picard is having a dream/nightmare about playing poker on the Enterprise with Lieutenant-Commander Data at the same time that a deadly attack happens on a planet visible through the windows of Ten Forward in the background. Which planet?

From Quiz 1.1 "Remembrance"

Answer: Mars

This historical tidbit helps fill in some of what has happened in the intervening time since "Nemesis". As a prequel to "Picard" a short episode was released through "Short Treks" (season 2, episode 6) "Children of Mars" just two weeks prior to the release of "Remembrance". We don't learn it immediately, but the attack on the Mars' Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards was perpetrated by a group of rogue synthetic beings... androids, resulting in the banning of the creation of any more synthetics in the Federation. The events of "Nemesis" occurred in the year 2379, the attack on Mars in 2385, and the return of "Picard" in 2399.

19. A common theme of the episode is Picard's sense of being alone. What does he tell both Laris and Guinan was the obligatory reason why he never truly loved another?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S2E:1 "The Star Gazer"

Answer: Duty

Picard tells Laris and Guinan that his sense of duty to Starfleet always came first and things like love and becoming close to someone always had to stand in line. Laris tells Picard that it's still not too late and Guinan tells him that it's time that he follows his heart.

20. After Narek is allowed to escape, he goes to the Artifact (Borg Cube) and retrieves some weapons. What type of weapons does he retrieve?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E10

Answer: Grenades

When Narek makes it back to the Artifact, he and his sister, Narissa, are both surprised to see each other alive. Narek grabs 12 molecular solvent grenades and tells Narissa that he plans to use them to destroy the 'Orchids' that help protect the planet of Coppelius from invaders.

21. As La Sirena is descending from a loss of power, Picard has a momentary lapse of clarity. He then informs the crew that he has a terminal condition affecting what body organ?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E9

Answer: Brain

After the orchid knocks out the power on La Sirena, Picard loses his sense of reality and falls asleep. When he wakes up, Dr. Agnes Jurati informs Picard that she was able to run some tests using a tricorder. Picard then tells the whole crew that he has a terminal brain abnormality. However, he warns them that anyone treating him like a dying man runs the risk of pissing him off.

22. What was the name of the octonary star system mentioned in "Broken Pieces" that was determined to have been created by an ancient species over 200,000 years in the past?

From Quiz "Star Trek Picard" S1:E8

Answer: Eightfold Stars

In the episode, Raffi talks with Rios's holograms inquiring about a Romulan symbol showing eight interconnected circles. He tells her it's an octonary star system but that the gravitational workings of a system with eight stars would be extremely complex and the likelihood of it occurring naturally was close to zero. The Eightfold Stars were an octonary star system created by moving the stars into orbit around each other. At the center of the Eightfold Stars system was the planet Aia where the Admonition was located.

23. With Captain Rios and La Sirena on their way to collect Picard and Soji Asha at Nepenthe, Elnor is left behind on the Artifact. How does he escape capture by the Romulans?

From Quiz 1.8 "Broken Pieces"

Answer: He is rescued by Seven of Nine

At the end of the previous episode ("Nepenthe"), Elnor was left hiding on the Borg cube, having just witnessed Narissa strike a killing blow against Hugh. He sent a message to the Fenris Rangers, trying to contact Seven of Nine. Now, the Romulan soldiers have tracked him down and Elnor is fighting for his life, partially stunned by a grenade as the centurions attack. He holds his own for a bit, but is soon restrained. Just when it seems as though he is done for, phaser blasts take out the soldiers holding him, fired by Seven as she arrives in the nick of time. Between the two of them, they dispatch the remaining Romulans. Elnor was played by Evan Evagora, while Jeri Ryan portrayed Seven of Nine.

24. The young girl turns out to be the daughter of Will Riker and Deanna Troi, two of Picard's former bridge crew aboard the USS Enterprise (his first officer and counselor). What are they in the middle of doing when the visitors arrive?

From Quiz 1.7 "Nepenthe"

Answer: Making pizza

Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Troi (Marina Sirtis) have a lovely log cabin-style modern home (complete with protective shields) in the countryside away from anybody else. They are in the process of making supper (fresh garden tomatoes and basil for wood-fired pizza) when Picard and Soji arrive with Kestra. Troi meets Picard on the front step and gives him a big hug before acknowledging why he has come. With her empathic abilities, she quickly understands the full import of Picard's mission, and both she and her husband are quick to offer whatever is needed.

25. Following the stresses of the recent events and the upcoming trials of the Borg cube, two members of the crew find comfort in each other's arms. Who?

From Quiz 1.6 "The Impossible Box"

Answer: Captain Cristóbal Rios and Dr. Agnes Jurati

Dr. Jurati finds Captain Rios alone in the transporter room in the evening getting a little exercise in (some footwork with a soccer ball), and approaches him with some trepidation. Believing her to be distraught after the death of her colleague and former companion Bruce Maddox (which she is, although not for the exact reasons he thinks), he offers comforting words and embraces her. This emboldens Agnes to be overtly suggestive, to the point where she declares her tendency to sense mistakes while she is making them, and they retreat to his quarters.

26. As La Sirena approaches Freecloud, everyone on the bridge receives a personalized holographic advertisement from the planet, with one exception. Who doesn't get their own ad?

From Quiz 1.5 "Stardust City Rag"

Answer: Elnor

The advertisements are all tailored to the different individuals, based off of their public profiles: Jean-Luc Picard is enticed with "afternoon high tea" at the Freecloud Grand Hotel; Cristóbal Rios is offered upgrades to his ship's power efficiency; Agnes Jurati's ad is robotics-related, from the "Freecloud Institute of Entertainment Robotics"; Raffi Musiker is offered to "pick her poison" at Feely's Venom Garden. Only Elnor, who has lived a secluded life in a monastic order and has no public profile, gets no advertisement.

27. (Back to the 'present') Aboard La Sirena, Dr. Agnes Jurati tries to engage Captain Rios in conversation, interrupting him while he is doing what?

From Quiz 1.4 "Absolute Candor"

Answer: Reading a book

Dr. Jurati attempts to make a connection with Captain Rios, mentioning that she has been trying to keep busy - she has gotten caught up on two years' worth of "The Journal of Theoretical Cybernetics", watered the plants, and is curious as to why the only holo-programs he has are Klingon operas. When she asks about the book he is reading, he responds that it concerns "the existential pain of living with the consciousness of death and how it defines us as human beings." The book he is reading is Miguel de Unamuno's "The Tragic Sense of Life" (1912).

28. The character of Dahj Asha (portrayed by Isa Briones) is introduced having dinner with her boyfriend Caler... in what American city?

From Quiz 1.1 "Remembrance"

Answer: Greater Boston

We learn that Dahj Asha has been accepted to the Daystrom Institute to work in the fields of artificial intelligence and quantum consciousness. But the nice domestic picture is soon interrupted by an unexpected attack by unknown assailants. Greater Boston is in the "Star Trek" universe, but the other cities come from elsewhere: New New York is from "Doctor Who", San Angeles is from "Demolition Man", and Central City is from the "DC Comics" universe.

29. Picard has several memories of his mother and how they spent time together in a special room of their home. What is this room from which his mother would tell him to look up at the stars?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S2E:1 "The Star Gazer"

Answer: Greenhouse

In Picard's memory his mother and him spend a lot of time in the greenhouse and she encourages him to explore and be a "little Magellan". Picard helps his mother paint the glass in the greenhouse and to keep the plants healthy. Years later Picard still goes into the greenhouse to reminisce and look up at the stars.

30. Rios and Raffi are able to repair their heavily damaged ship, La Sirena, through a tool provided to them by Arcana. Who are they surprised to see throwing rocks at La Sirena after it is fixed?

From Quiz "Star Trek: Picard" S1:E10

Answer: Narek

After Narek leaves his sister and the Artifact with the grenades he runs to La Sirena. To get the attention of Rios and Raffi he throws rocks at the ship so they will listen to what he has to say. Surprisingly, he tells them that he wants to help them by not allowing Soji to set off the beacon warning other synthetic lifeforms. The three (and Picard) believe that a war between synthetic lifeforms and organic life would cause the end of organic lifeforms.
