Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Early in the episode Picard comments to Laris that the day was his favorite of the year. What culminating event made Picard so happy and proud?

Answer: It was the last day of the season for harvesting grapes.

The harvesting of grapes on Chateau Picard involves the use of both machinery and physical labor. After the bottles have been labeled and corked Picard and Laris enjoy each other's company and Picard tells her that the end of the harvest is by far his favorite day of the year.
2. Although his death is not shown on camera, Laris and Picard both talk longingly about her late husband. What was the name of Laris's Romulan husband who had died about a year and a half before the events of "The Star Gazer"?

Answer: Zhaban

Laris and Picard both give toasts to each other in different languages and then fondly talk about Zhaban and how they miss him. Laris tells Picard that Zhaban was actually betrothed to her at birth but over time they came to love each other. The role of Zhaban was played by the American actor Jamie McShane.
3. A common theme of the episode is Picard's sense of being alone. What does he tell both Laris and Guinan was the obligatory reason why he never truly loved another?

Answer: Duty

Picard tells Laris and Guinan that his sense of duty to Starfleet always came first and things like love and becoming close to someone always had to stand in line. Laris tells Picard that it's still not too late and Guinan tells him that it's time that he follows his heart.
4. Picard has several memories of his mother and how they spent time together in a special room of their home. What is this room from which his mother would tell him to look up at the stars?

Answer: Greenhouse

In Picard's memory his mother and him spend a lot of time in the greenhouse and she encourages him to explore and be a "little Magellan". Picard helps his mother paint the glass in the greenhouse and to keep the plants healthy. Years later Picard still goes into the greenhouse to reminisce and look up at the stars.
5. Picard is now an admiral at Starfleet and he tells a new class of cadets that space is not the final frontier. What does he tell them he has learned is the real final frontiers?

Answer: Time

Picard gave his speech to the cadets at the Starfleet Academy in San Francisco. He tells them that time is the real final frontier and that what they do in crisis often weighs less heavily than our thoughts over time about what could have been done.
6. What individual does Picard give recognition to as being the first fully Romulan cadet at Starfleet Academy?

Answer: Elnor

Just a few years prior Picard had taken Elnor from his home planet of Vashti on a quest to stop a possible war between synthetic lifeforms and the Romulans. Elnor was trained as both an expert fighter and to always speak the truth. As an adult Elnor was played by Evan Evagora and as a child his character was played by Ian Nunney.
7. As Elnor is about to go on a Starfleet mission Picard stops him and gives him a book titled "The Many and the One". What deep thinker wrote this book that provided inspiration to Picard?

Answer: Spock

Spock was a Vulcan/Human hybrid that served under captain James T. Kirk on the USS Enterprise as science officer. While Spock and Kirk often butted heads, the two had a mutual respect for each other. Spock commonly gave pearls of wisdom to the crew and it's no surprise that he wrote a book that would also inspire Picard. Picard tells Elnor that his favorite quote from the book is "exhilaration enhances the absorption of knowledge" meaning that it is okay to have fun and live a little.
8. Prior to being called in on a mission Picard travels to Los Angeles to catch up with Guinan. What Academy Award winning actress played the part of Guinan in both "Star Trek: Picard" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation"?

Answer: Whoopi Goldberg

Guinan was a bartender and recurring character on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" seasons 2-6. Played by Whoopi Goldberg, the character was of the El-Aurian species and she did not age like typical humans do. In "Star Trek: Picard", she shares a drink with Picard and tells him that the only place he's been afraid to explore is his heart.

In addition to playing Guinan, Whoopi Goldberg played memorable roles in the "Sister Act" film series and she won an Academy Award for her work on the film "Ghost".
9. Picard is dispatched to Rios's ship because they are receiving a message from within an anomaly in space. What cyborgs sent the message "help us Picard" and used a cutting beam to access the Star Gazer ship?

Answer: Borg

Picard was surprised when a member of Starfleet visited his home to show him that the Star Gazer had received a message stating "help us Picard". Once Picard got on the Star Gazer the Borgs used a cutting beam so that their queen could board the ship.

After she was on the ship the queen started zapping power from the Star Gazer and assimilating the other ships in Starfleet into the Borg hub. This prompts Picard to initiate an auto destruct sequence on the Star Gazer.
10. When Picard wakes up he is back home and surprised to see someone that he hadn't seen in 31 years. Who was this powerful individual whose entire race of beings are referred to by a single letter?

Answer: Q

The Q are entities that can adjust their appearance and time in extremely powerful and dangerous ways. Picard is not happy when he sees Q as in the past Q had sent him in alternate time realities and messed with his mind. Q tells Picard "welcome to the very end of the road not taken".
