Video Games L-P: 'P' Trivia Questions

1. Which company released "Pitfall" in 1982?

From Quiz
Pitfalls of the Jungle

Answer: Activision

"PItfall" was released in 1982. David Crane designed the game on behalf of Activision for the Atari 2600. Decades later, the game still has an extremely high reputation with over five million copies sold. Interestingly, the game was highly popular despite its relatively primitive graphics.

2. When was "Pitfall!" first released?

From Quiz Pitfall!

Answer: 1982

"Pitfall!" was released on August 20, 1982 and was originally designed for the Atari 2600. The original version of the game won "Best Adventure Video Game" at the 4th annual Arcade (Arkie) Awards in 1983. The same year, "Demon Attack" won for Video Game of the Year.

3. What colour uniform is used by normal security prisoners?

From Quiz "Prison Architect" (PC)

Answer: Orange

Minimum security prisoners have grey uniforms, maximum security prisoners have orange-red uniforms, supermax prisoners have dark red uniforms. Protective custody prisoners have yellow uniforms and death row prisoners have black uniforms.

4. It is November of 1982, and you play as the passport control officer for a fictional dictatorial country. What is the name of this country?

From Quiz "Papers, Please" (PC)

Answer: Arstotzka

Arstotzka has just decided to allow limited entry into its previously-closed borders, and you've been selected to man the position of passport checker. All you ever see of your country is the little grey piece of land which serves as the border checkpoint between Arstotzka and Kolechia. Your job is to check as many people at the border as possible each day, ensure that they have the proper documentation as dictated at the start of that day, and admit as many as possible without breaking any of the rules. This is way harder than it sounds, not only because the day flies by really fast, but because of the people and situations you will meet while manning this checkpost.

5. Sam is afraid of the dark, and tries to eliminate Darkness once and for all! Sam first needs to gather three items for this task. Where should he go looking for them?

From Quiz Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside

Answer: Around Sam's bedroom

The items Sam needs to find are a Pajama Man lunchbox, a flashlight and a Pajama Man mask. They can be hidden in and under several things, including the drawers, the mat, Sam's bed and a bucket. Once you have them all, you can click on the big door and enter the Land of Darkness!

6. What is the central question of the game?

From Quiz Planescape: Torment

Answer: What can change the nature of a man?

The choices you make while adventuring answer this question; among other things, your "alignment" can change to good or evil. For RPG fans, you may remember the wrong answers as properly belonging to the "Baldur's Gate" series and "Icewind Dale".

7. Who created "Pet Society"?

From Quiz "Pet Society"

Answer: Playfish

Playfish mainly makes social games on websites such as Facebook and MySpace. Their company claims on their official website that their mission is to "change the way people play games by creating more social and connected experiences". Other games they offer to play are "Bowling Buddies", "Who Has the Biggest Brain", and another one of my personal favourites, "Geo Challenge".

8. Where does your character begin the game?

Once again, Jack Sparrow finds himself in jail. Luckily, he knows that these doors are not too sturdy and kicks them open for you. Your days as a pirate have just begun.

15. Which two colours are mostly found in "Polarium"?

From Quiz The Polarity of "Polarium"

Answer: Black and white

Pink and auburn brown couldn't be "Polarium"'s uniform colours, because the game focuses mostly around polarity, as you may have guessed from the title and your experience with the game itself. For those of you who don't know what polarity means, it means to do with the two poles (opposites) of something, or if that's too technical for you, let's just say that it's mostly a funny way of saying opposites.

16. What is the name of the newspaper the paperboy delivers for?

From Quiz "Payday 2" - Comprehension

Answer: Harvest & Trustee

Harvest & Trustee bank is where Bain sends you each time you select the heist. Fifth Third is a real bank. Washington Vaults and Fort Knocks are both fictional.

20. Poor Sam! After spending so much time getting ready to enter the Land of Darkness, he ends up having all the things he brought stolen by a couple of evil talking trees! What item does Sam collect during this experience?

From Quiz Pajama Sam: No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside

Answer: Rope

Sam gets the rope after untying himself. The trees have scattered Sam's items across the Land of Darkness. Sam will need to explore the place to find them. After he does, he can confront Darkness in his house! That bit of rope will come in handy... Each of the three items Sam needs can be hidden in 1 of 2 different places. This allows you to play the game more than once without it getting repetitive!

21. Who is the first NPC who can join your adventuring party, in the mortuary?

From Quiz Planescape: Torment

26. How many different steps or arrows are there that can be hit? Note: This includes both pads if played with two people.

From Quiz "Pump It Up", Not "DDR"

Answer: Ten

Unlike "Dance Dance Revolution", with four, or "In The Groove", which has eight arrows total, "Pump It Up" has ten. The set-up is like "Dance Dance Revolution", but instead of the arrows being configurated up-down-left-right, the arrows are turned 45 degrees to be on the corners and an extra arrow is placed in the middle, allowing, in my opinion, better movement and flow while stepping on them. I believe there are no stepping games that have seven total arrows. However, "Technomotion," another dancing game, does have eighteen steps, one for each section of the square!

27. What is the code to get everything in the game?

From Quiz The Punisher

Answer: V Pirate

V Pirate is the code that gets you all levels, weapons, comic art, and everything else.

28. In Challenge Mode, when you start the game, what does the "figure" in the middle of the game board resemble?

From Quiz The Polarity of "Polarium"

Answer: The number one

The figure is made up by having a bunch of tiles all the one colour, and all the other tiles the other colour, making us perceive something besides just a jumble of black and white tiles. Which colour is the "figure" and which colour is the "background" is random.

29. What type of people do they show first when telling you whom to deliver to?

From Quiz The Paperboy

Answer: Customers

This is shown after you tell the game how many players you want. It's when they are showing you what houses you are supposed to deliver to. The customers are shown in a light color and the non-customers are shown in a dark color. On the NES game they are shown in red and white.

30. How long does the player have to make it through the jungle?

From Quiz Pitfalls of the Jungle

Answer: Twenty minutes

The player has twenty minutes to make it through the 255 different screens of the jungle. The screens are connected horizontally. On occasion the player may need to go both forward back on some screens so that twenty minutes is not as much as you would think.
