Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This chapter of the Adventure Path brings travellers to Iadara where they will have an audience with which elven queen?

Answer: Telandia

Queen Telandia Edasseril is the one who rules over the Kingdom of Kyonin, the elven capital city, so when the heroes of the campaign emerge from the elven gate that took them from the Darklands and return to Crying Leaf, they'll be told to head closer to Kyonin to recount their findings in front of Telandia herself.

This trip will take them far along the travel routes-- the satellite city of Iadara isn't quite so close to the Riddleport region-- but there they will be able to state their case. Telandia will leave the veracity of these developments to her diviners and in the meantime the travellers will stay in lodgings nearby.

It's during this time that certain members of the Winter Council will put their own plans into motion.
2. Which of these deceptively-named locations is actually a prison cell?

Answer: The Paradise Chamber

Though visitors to Iadara will be housed there during their stay, Queen Telandia will have the information about Zirnakaynin looked at by her advisors and decide that the best course of action will be to put the messengers somewhere safe. It's not safe enough-- a dissenter will spur a plan into action to have the heroes attacked in the middle of the night and the Shin'Rakorath, acting in good faith, will send them to the Paradise Chamber...essentially a jail. If anything, it should indicate that there's a bit of political strife, even amongst the high-ranking elves of the Winter Council.
3. Quilindra is actually which of these?

Answer: Succubus

To guests of the Paradise Chamber, Quilindra, the only other inhabitant, will appear as a half-elf disguised to anyone who's unable to penetrate her magic-enhanced outward appearance. In reality she's a succubus, and it's up to the party to determine whether or not they keep her around for their inevitable escape or leave her be.

She'll be on-hand for a bit of necessary information about the Winter Council, the elven high authorities responsible (partly) for the heroes' imprisonment. There's common cause for Quilindra to be an ally, at least for now, since she'll be able to lead travellers to Thorn's End. If she can keep her disguise up for that long, she'll inevitably reveal her true nature upon arrival.
4. Throughout this adventure, access to a specific network of Elf Gates is essential. What is that network's name?

Answer: Aiudara

As soon as the escape plan commences, it's critical to make haste to the nearest Aiudara Gate to establish a headstart on the Shin'Rakorath. This means letting hopping into one of the Elf Gates in the network. While other Elf Gates make use of a multitude of keys to transport users from one place to any place, those in the Aiudara Network are defined; if you hop into one it will only go to one place (and from there you can go back).

It means taking a bit of a world tour to get to the final destination: Thorn's End. Quilindra will lead the way, firstly, from the gate in Iodara-- known as Lotusgate-- and that will take travellers to a courtyard of other gates in a field of lotuses. From there, the route gets more complicated.
5. The region containing Icegate is found in which part of the world?

Answer: The north

Lotusgate will lead Aiudara users to Galtgate, a series of cavernous temples populated by a few traders positioned to sell their wares to anyone passing through, but the gate found there will jet users off to Icegate, a spot found in the far north of the continent near the Crown of the World.

There, the trip will get a bit more complicated as Snowcaster Sentries, the locals, will protect the area from anyone who decides to appear there. If guests don't pay the toll or finagle their way out of it, they'll face off against the waiting patrol and it will be one more road block on the journey. For all intents and purposes, the Snowcasters are the same as the Shin'Rakorath in terms of battle stats.
6. Arriving at Lichgate, visitors will need to travel through the ruins of what ruined stronghold in Ustalav?

Answer: Mirianath

Icegate will lead to Lichgate and the stronghold of Mirianath which, though it might have been more fortuitous in an earlier day and age, is little more than ruins in the current time. The only Aiudara gate in Ustalav, it now services an uninhabited space save for the influence of the dead; its only inhabitant is a powerful banshee.

The final gate to pass through, Tanglegate, is found in this structure, but visitors might find themselves distracted by heaps of powerful gear and...yeah...the spectre.
7. Traveling through Tanglebriar puts visitors at risk of poison simply by passing through the forests there. These poisons are known to cause damage to which ability score?

Answer: Strength

Tanglegate will emerge into a bogland and anyone who spent time fighting the banshee back in Mirianath will probably be upset to find that they'll be thrust headlong into an immediate second battle against the area's only true guardians, a pair of elephant-sized spiders known as bebeliths.

It's a three mile trek through a forest of nettles and vines to get to Thorn's End, and there's a high likelihood (especially in such dense terrain) that this won't only take long, but result in further encounters against wandering foes and increase opportunities that visitors get poisoned by the local fauna, thus taking strength damage.
8. The Maleficus Spike in Thorn's End protects the Winter Council from which of these?

Answer: Demons

Buried deep in Tanglebriar, travellers will find Thorn's End, the home of the Winter Council and the final location of this chapter of the campaign. This massive complex of rooms is lavish and exquisite, but it's not without its issues. The building is going to be surrounded by demons until the situation is dealt with, and if Quilindra has made it this far, it will become apparent that she can't step past the courtyard due to her true nature.

This is because the Winter Council created the Maleficus Spike, a magical device placed into the foundation of Thorn's End to ward off demons and keep a Dimensional Lock on the area.

Unfortunately, Allevrah managed to damage it, at least partially, so it's only a matter of time before the building is overrun.
9. How many members of the Winter Council will reside in Thorn's End when the heroes arrive?

Answer: Four

There will be an emergency session at Thorn's End to get to the bottom of the matters at hand, specifically with the shocking coincidence of a drow matron by the name of Allevrah. While it may not have been apparent in past learnings, the Winter Council has gone to great lengths to hide the knowledge of an internal defector, a former member of the Winter Council-- Allevrah.

The first step to making sure you can get to the bottom of this plot is by getting all four remaining council members together despite their apprehensions, and it's through chatting with them that it will appear everyone has their own ideas of what to do next.
10. One of the members of the Winter Council will transform into which of these during the emergency session?

Answer: Drow

Three of the members of the Winter Council, while a bit staunch, will be typical elven higher-ups, but one, Hialin, will appear to be a bit off from the get-go. As soon as the emergency meeting is called to order, he'll go off the deep end and transform into a drow before everyone's very eyes, revealing the secret at hand-- that a drow results from an Elf gone evil. Hialin will attempt to remove the Maleficus Spike if he can (to let the demons into Thorn's End), and if he succeeds there's not really a way to win that battle unless the spike is reset into the foundation. If Hialin can be subdued it will go a long way in securing the elven vote of confidence.

The Winter Council will be shaken, sure, but it will give the elves the motivation they need to go after Allevrah and stop her apocalyptic plans.
