Answer: Scrapple

2. What fabulous dessert is made from a fruit that was brought to Florida by the Spanish and the Portuguese?

Answer: Key Lime Pie

You need Key Lime juice, egg yolk, and sweetened condensed milk - whipped together and cooked in a pie crust.

Bonus Fact! - Real Floridian Key Lime pie is yellow, not green, because the juice from the Key Limes is turned yellow due to the adding of the egg yolks.

3. In the year of 1905 - What New York staple was made possible by Gennaro Lombardi in Little Italy, Manhattan?

Answer: Pizza

The first Pizza ovens were coal brick ovens. This tradition has continued to be the most popular method of cooking genuine thin crust New York Style Pizza.
4. "I'd like to buy the world a home, and furnish it with love - grow apple trees and honeybees and snow white turtle doves. I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony..." This advertising ditty, from the 70's, tells of a popular drink from our East Coast state of Georgia that goes well with your southern fried catfish and hush puppies. What beverage are we thinking of?

Answer: Coke

Coke, short for Coca-Cola, was at first intended to be a patent medicine as a opium free alternative to the widespread use of morphine. Early efforts were called "Dr. Tuggle's Compound Syrup of Globe Flower" and "Pemberton's French Wine Coca."
5. Throughout our Southern States, this favorite food is the breakfast "must have". What popular dish are we referring to?

Answer: Grits

Simply, grits are small broken grains of corn crushed by a stone mill. The finest ground dust is kept as cornmeal. Served dozens of ways including with cheese, bacon bits or sausage, shrimp, or eaten with a generous amount of butter and a pinch of salt and pepper.
6. Which New Jersey boardwalk staple was invented in Atlantic City by accident after a flood swept through David Bradley's store?

Answer: Salt water taffy

In 1883, a storm swept through the east coast and flooded the candy shop owned by David Bradley and into his supply of taffy. However, customers wanted the taffy anyway and a new treat was born.

7. Massachusetts is the 2nd largest U.S. producer of this Thanksgiving staple. Grown on vines and small bushes historically in wetlands, what berry is the correct answer?

Answer: Cranberry

We can thank the vision of Marcus L. Urann, who, in 1912, revolutionized the market of a 6 week product to one you can enjoy year round. There are about 200 cranberries in the canned version. The cranberry is also enjoyed as a juice, eaten fresh and dried, and baked into bread.

8. What is the difference between a traditional pizza and a New Jersey tomato pie?

Answer: In a tomato pie, the cheese is underneath the sauce.

In a tomato pie the layers from bottom to top are: dough, cheese, toppings (if any) and then the sauce. Many people believe that by putting the sauce on top, it gives a tomato pie a much more tomato-ey flavor. Others believe this just creates more mess than a regular pizza.

9. In the 1960s, Teressa Bellissimo of Buffalo, New York, changed the world as we knew it with her deep fried chicken wings in Frank's Hot Sauce and a little butter. What is the name of the bar she was the owner of?

Answer: Anchor Bar

Deep fried chicken wings are served a variety of ways including hot, mild, and with garlic and butter. Most include a dipping sauce such as blue cheese and ranch dressings.

10. A most confusing term for most Northerners is a Southern favorite - Chicken fried steak. Is this dinner made out of pounded chicken breast?

Answer: no

The dish is actually made of a thin cut of beef, tenderized, and then dipped in egg wash, and into the flour bag with your favorite spices, very much like the preparation for fried chicken. Chicken fried steak!
