Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This classic starred an amazing cast, featuring Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and the diva many want to emulate, Marilyn Monroe.

Answer: Some Like it Hot

This 1959 movie features Lemmon and Curtis who are forced into heels to protect themselves from a murder they witnessed. Marilyn plays the succulent Sugar Kane, her name an inspiration for the 1970's Broadway adaptation of the film entitled "Sugar".
2. I am an overly dramatic, ageing drag queen with the stage name Starina. My partner owns the club where I perform and lately, he does not seem to give me the recognition I deserve. Sigh. What movie am I in?

Answer: The Birdcage

"The Birdcage" (1996) is an adaptation of the French film "La Cage aux Folles," starring Robin Williams, Gene Hackman, and Nathan Lane (who plays Starina). The movie is hilarious and hyperbolic, with a running soundtrack of the song, "We Are Family".
3. In this movie, I play a woman impersonating a man impersonating a woman.

Answer: Victor/Victoria

"Victor/Victoria" (1982), taking place in "gay" Paris, is a classic movie about gender bending, featuring the lovely Julie Andrews and her powerful set of pipes. Andrews received an Oscar nomination for her role in this film. The other titles here are all from the same 1914 film, "The Masquerader," starring a crossdressing Charlie Chaplin.
4. I am a highly stylized performer blazing silver cloth from the top of my van driving through the outback.

Answer: Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert

This image from "Pricilla, Queen of the Desert" has always left a lasting impression of this excellent international film starring Terence Stamp, Hugo Weaving, and Guy Pearce. This movie seems to address some of the more serious issues of the resulting disapproval society makes with identities that are not read as easily as the assumed traditional binaries between male and female.
5. This extremely popular documentary examines the Harlem Drag-Ball scene in the late 1980s. What movie is this?

Answer: Paris Is Burning

Harvard student Jennie Livinston's mesmerizing, but problematic documentary "Paris Is Burning," (1989) attempts to portray the celebrations and struggles in the New York ball scene. "How Do I Look?" is an upcoming documentary which plan to pick up where "Paris Is Burning" left off, but it is filmed by drag queens with the intention of portraying a broader spectrum of the life of the performers than the ball scene.
6. I have short red curly hair and gained iconic status in my red sequin dress from this 1980's blockbuster.

Answer: Tootsie

Dustin Hoffman plays Michael Dorsey/Dorothy Michaels (another play with names) in this 1982 film. "Tootsie" is easily one of the most popular filmic depictions of drag in this generation, scooping up countless Oscars at the time of its release. But that's just critical acclaim. Was it good for you too?
7. I have dressed as a fuddy-duddy old lady to get closer to my estranged wife and kids.

Answer: Mrs. Doubtfire

My favorite part of this heartwarming tale about the reconfiguration of family is when Williams, in female attire, whacks a mugger with her purse, allowing his manly voice to emerge, subsequently shocking the thief. This slip is a great moment where Williams' character is both man and woman, exposed at the same time.

The whole scene appropriately takes place to the soundtrack of Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like A Lady".
8. This movie features our favourite "Sweet Transvestite". What movie is this?

Answer: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Thank-you, Tim Curry for a great movie!
9. This 1930 film features Marlene Dietrich, most glamorous woman in Hollywood history. When I dress up in a suit, I lure both men and women in my sexy confidence.

Answer: Morocco

The gorgeous German actress, Marlene Dietrich, creates one of the most captivating performances in 1930's "Morocco."
10. Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes go cruising in this flick. What movie is this?

Answer: To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar

This film seems to be a quest film, similar to "Priscilla," based mostly on the road or stranded in small conservative towns.
