Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song claims: 'I'll buy you a diamond ring my friend If it makes you feel alright'?

Answer: Can't Buy Me Love

John Lennon and Paul McCartney first played together as the Quarrymen in 1957. George Harrison joined the Liverpool based band in 1958. They became the Silver Beatles and then The Beatles in the early sixties. Ringo Starr joined, on drums, in 1962.
'Can't Buy Me Love' was recorded at EMI's London Abbey Road studios in early 1964. With Paul on lead vocals, it charted at number one in both the US and UK.
2. Which song explains that: 'Got a good reason for taking the easy way out'?

Answer: Day Tripper

'Day Tripper' was recorded in just three takes. Released as a double A-side with 'We Can Work It Out', it reached number five in the US and number one in the UK in 1965.
3. Which song lamented: 'Ah, look at all the lonely people'?

Answer: Eleanor Rigby

Lifted from the 'Revolver' album, 'Eleanor Rigby' signalled the Beatles' departure from the love song formula. Recorded in the late spring of 1966, it features Paul McCartney on lead vocal. A number one hit in the UK, it peaked at number eleven in the US.
4. Which song states: 'Oh yea' I'll tell you something I think you'll understand'?

Answer: I Want To Hold Your Hand

This is probably the Beatles' most popular tune. It is the band's first true stereo recording. Laid-down in October 1963, it topped the charts in the US and UK.
5. Which song claims that" 'Baby's good to me you know She's happy as can be you know'?

Answer: I Feel Fine

6. Which song completes this line? '-------- children at your feet, wonder how you manage to make ends meet'

Inspiration for 'Lady Madonna' came from a picture of an African woman breast-feeding her child. Recorded at Abbey Road in February 1968 it featured Paul McCartney on lead vocal and piano.

8. Which energetic song begins with: 'Well, shake it up baby now Shake it up baby'?

Answer: Twist And Shout

John Lennon took the lead vocal on 'Twist and Shout', which was recorded in February 1962. His rasping voice on this track has been attributed to a heavy cold and a lengthy recording session.

Released as a double A side along with 'Day Tripper', 'We Can Work It Out' featured John Lennon on the harmonium.

Answer: From Me To You

'From Me To You' was recorded at Abbey Road studios in March 1963. This track along with all of the Beatles' EMI output was produced by 'George Martin' [The only exception was the Phil Spector produced 'Let It Be' album.] Sir George Martin was knighted by the Queen, and given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammys in 1996.

He was quite-rightly acclaimed the 'Fifth Beatle' for converting the band's musical genius into recorded reality.
14. Which song begins with these lyrics: 'Let me take you down, cos' I'm going to'?

Answer: Strawberry Fields Forever

John Lennon took the lead vocals and Paul McCartney played mellotron on this track. The final production was two entirely different versions of the song edited together.
15. Which song mentions: 'Standing in the dock at Southampton Trying to get to Holland or France'?

Answer: Ballad Of John And Yoko

Although credited to The Beatles only John and Paul appear on 'The Ballad Of John And Yoko', George Harrison and Ringo Starr were otherwise engaged at the time of the recording.
