Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who arranged The Beatles first audition at Decca Records' Hampstead Studios?

Answer: Brian Epstein

Using some family connections, Epstein placed a few calls to various studios, Decca Records being the first interested. They arranged for A & R representative Mike Smith to go to Liverpool to see for himself how good the boys were. The audition was scheduled for January 1,1962.
2. At their first audition, which of these songs did the Beatles not perform?

Answer: A Hard Day's Night

The Beatles performed 15 songs in just under 1 hour. Epstein chose the songs, and though the boys were familiar with all the songs, their performance was not quite up to scratch. Decca Records eventually chose the Tremeloes over the Beatles saying "guitar groups are on the way out".
3. What was the title track of the Beatles' first single?

Answer: Love Me Do

The single was recorded on September 11, 1962 by George Martin at Parlophone. The backing side was "PS I Love You".
4. On the Album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which was the first song recorded?

Answer: When I'm Sixty-Four

This song was recorded on December 10, 1966 and was mainly written by Paul.
5. From the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", which song was written by George Harrison?

Answer: Within You Without You

This song was recorded in March 1967. Neil Aspinall played the tamboura on this track.
6. On what date was the "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" album released?

Answer: June 1,1967

This album has been acclaimed as the Beatles? crowning achievement. For many critics, including self-proclaimed jazz snob Leonard Feather, rock ?n? roll was no longer just teenage dance music ? it was art.
7. Which two members of the Beatles looked after the overall production of the telemovie "Magical Mystery Tour"?

Answer: Ringo and Paul

While this is true, all the members of the Beatles contributed to the final editing. This movie was also a big flop. This was attributed to the fact that it was shown in black and white instead of colour
8. The "White" album was the first Beatles' album to be released through Apple Records.

Answer: True

The "White" album was released on November 22,1968. It was recorded under the working title of "A Doll's House". However it was not the first release through Apple. The honours for that go to the single "Hey Jude/Revolution" which was released on August 26, 1968 in America and on August 30 in England.
9. How many "new" songs featured on the "Yellow Submarine" album?

Answer: four

Released on January 17, 1969, the album contained four "new" songs. These were, "Hey Bulldog", "Only A Northern Song", "It's All Too Much", and "All Together Now".
10. Which of these titles was the "Let It Be" album originally going to be called?

Answer: Get Back

This album was the last official release as a group. The Beatles wanted to return to their original rock 'n' roll roots. It didn't help. They did not release the album straight away and six months later, found themselves working on and releasing the album "Abbey Road", but not as a group, and decided to go their separate ways.

They finally released the "Let It Be" album as their last hurrah.
