Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one was a counsellor to David, but then deserted him during a bloody coup attempt and became an adviser to Absalom? (2 Samuel 15:31)

Answer: Ahithophel

Ahithophel was well known for his wisdom and a being a key counsellor to David. However, Ahithophel was anything but loyal with Scripture telling of him deserting David during a bloody coupe attempt and becoming an adviser to the leader of opposing forces. The leader of the opposing forces was non other than David's son Absalom.

Ahithophel's decision to join Absalom's camp would prove to be a crucial blunder. After learning Ahithophel had left him as an adviser, 2 Samuel 15:31 tells of David praying the "LORD would turn Ahithophel's counsel into foolishness".

And sure enough, that's what happened. Scripture goes on to tell of Ahithophel's advice being useless for Absalom and the would-be king stopped listening to him. The story ends with Ahithophel putting his house in order and hanging himself, as per 2 Samuel 17:23.
2. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Samuel 25:43, was a wife of David and was, at one time, taken captive? (A wife of Saul also shared the same name.)

Answer: Ahinoam

Ahinoam is the name of two women in the Old Testament. One was the wife of David and the other the wife of Saul.

The Ahinoam who married David was from Jezreel and she bore him a son, Amnon. 1 Samuel 30 tells of Ahinoam and Abigail, another wife of David, being taken captive by the Amalekites. Scripture goes on to tell of David freeing his two wives as well as a number of other people who had been taken captive by the Amalekites.

The second woman called Ahinoam, the wife of Saul, is mentioned in 1 Samuel 14:50. She was the daughter of Ahimaaz, another Bible character whose name starts with the letters 'AHI'.
3. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Samuel 14:3, was a son of Phinehas and a grandson of Eli, a judge and high priest of Israel?

Answer: Ahitub

Ahitub is the correct answer, however, little is known about him as he is largely mentioned in passing reference. According to Wikipedia, his name means 'brother of goodness'.

While there is no documentation in Scripture, it's highly likely Ahitub became high priest of Israel following the death of his grandfather Eli and his father Phinehas. Eli was the high priest of Israel and he and his son Phinehas died only hours apart.

According to 1 Samuel 14:3, Ahitub had a son whose name also started with the letters 'AHI'. His name was Ahijah.

It must be pointed out other men in the Old Testament are called Ahitub. However, they too are minor characters with little known about them.
4. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one served as a governor for Solomon, as per 1 Kings 4:14?

Answer: Ahinadab

According to Scripture, Ahiadab was one of twelve governors who served under Solomon and provided food to the king and his household for one month each year.
1 Kings 4:14 states Ahinadab served as governor in Mahanaim and his father was Iddo. Using the NKJV, as well as the KJV and the NIV, 1 Kings 4:14 is the only place where Ahiadab's name appears.
5. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 11:36, was one of David's mighty men? (A number of other Bible characters also share the name.)

Answer: Ahijah

Ahijah was one of David's mighty men, as per 1 Chronicles 11:36. The verse states Ahijah was a Pelonite, but little is known about him as he is mentioned in passing reference.

Another one of David's mighty men had a name starting with the letters 'AHI' as well. According to 1 Chronicles 11:35, his name was Ahiam and he was the son of Sacar the Hararite.

It must be pointed out other Bible characters are also named Ahijah.

Some of them are:
-- a son of Jerahmeel, who was a great-grandson of Judah, as per 1 Chronicles 2:25;
-- a son of Bela, as per 1 Chronicles 8:7;
-- a member of the Levite tribe who was in charge of the treasury of the temple, as per 1 Chronicles 26:20;
-- a secretary for Solomon, as per 1 Kings 4:3;
-- and a son of Ahitub, who was Ichabod's brother, as per 1 Samuel 14:3, 18. For more about Ahitub, see information in the answer section of Question No. 3.
6. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 2 Kings 22:11-13, was sent by Josiah to consult the prophetess Huldah following the discovery of the book of the law?

Answer: Ahikam

Ahikam was sent by Josiah, along with four other men, to consult the prophetess Huldah following the discovery of the book of the law. According to 2 Kings 22 the missing and forgotten book of the law was found by Hilkiah the high priest.

Scripture goes on to tell of Josiah sending Ahkiam, along with Hilkiah, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah, to meet with Huldah the prophetess. Chapter 22 concludes with details about Josiah getting rid of "all the abominations" from Israel and having the people "diligently serve the LORD their God."
7. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 7:10, was a third generation descendent of Benjamin?

Answer: Ahishahar

Ahishahar was a third generation descendant of Benjamin, as per 1 Chronicles 7:10. However, little is known about him as he is mentioned nowhere else in the Bible using the NKJV, KJV and the NIV.

According to Wikipedia, Ahishahar means "the [divine] brother is dawning light".
8. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Kings 4:6, was responsible for overseeing Solomon's household?

Answer: Ahishar

Ahishar is the correct answer. According to 1 Kings 4:6, he was "over the household" of Solomon. This is the only verse in the Bible in which he is mentioned, using the NKJV, KJV and NIV. As a result, little is known about him.

According to Wikipedia, Ahishar means "Brother of song, or singer".
9. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 13:7, helped transport the ark of God back to Israel only to see his brother Uzzah struck dead in a case of divine retribution?

Answer: Ahio

Scripture tells of Ahio, along with his brother Uzzah, transporting the ark of God back to Israel after it had been captured by the Philistines. Ahio walked in front guiding the oxen pulling the ark of God while Uzzah walked by the side of ark.

2 Samuel 6:6-7 states the oxen stumbled and Uzzah "put out his hand to the ark of God" and it would prove to be a fatal mistake. The passage tells of the anger of the LORD being aroused and God striking "him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God."

Ahio and Uzzah were the sons of Abinadab.

Some other men in the Old Testament were also called Ahio. They include a son of Beriah, as per 1 Chronicles 8:14) and a son of Jehiel, as per 1 Chronicles 8:31 and 9:37.
10. Out of the four names below starting with the letters 'AHI', which one, according to 1 Chronicles 12:3, was a key member of David's private army before he became king?

Answer: Ahiezer

Before he became king and during a time Saul was trying to kill him, David had a private army. A key member of David's army was none other than Ahiezer, according to 1 Chronicles 12:3. The men in David's army are described as "mighty" and armed with bows, "using both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows." The verse in the NKJV describes Ahiezer as "the chief".

It must be pointed out there is another man in the Old Testament called Ahiezer. He was the son of Ammishaddai, leader of the tribe of Dan, as per Numbers 7:66.
