Shaal Mayan is a Minbari poet who is on Babylon 5 to give an open performance of her poetry. She is a close friend of Delenn, and is attacked by the Homeguard on her way back to her quarters after spending time with the Ambassador.

Homeguard has been responsible for 6 other attacks on prominant aliens on Babylon 5, and similar attacks on Earth and Mars. This is not a new occurrence, since a Homeguard leader has already been convicted ('Universe Today' article, "Born to the Purple").

G'Kar was upset about the attack on Shaal Mayan and was attempting to rally the support of the other aliens against Sinclair and the humans. This is taken from G'Kar's speech: "We can no longer stand idly by as our peoples are slaughtered by these cowardly humans. We must fight back with every means at our disposal."

Answer: Vir Cotto

Kiron Maray is Vir's cousin and Aria Tensus is his fiancee. The two lovers want to be married, but this is against the will of their parents. Their parents had already set arranged marriages for each of them. They want to marry out of love...a concept thoroughly outside of Centauri traditions.

Mila Shar is the Abbai representative to Babylon 5. The Abbai have a very fish-like appearance and live on the planet Abba IV. Mila Shar was captured by the Homeguard, where she was to be killed by Sinclair as a test of loyalty.

Shaal Mayan was stabbed by the Homeguard and then branded...she makes a full recovery and keeps the brand as a reminder of the attack. Kiron and Aria were attacked by a group of Homeguard, where Kiron was shot and Aria was hit with a shock stick. Kiron remained in a coma for a period of time. Roberts was beat up by the aliens after the riot, in response to the attacks on aliens by the Homeguard.

This is an exerpt from the speech by Londo given to Vir after Vir has stated that Londo is wrong to refuse to allow Kiron and Aria to marry: "'My shoes are too tight'...Something my father said. He was old, very old at the time. I went into his room, and he was sitting alone in the dark, crying. So I asked him what was wrong, and he said, 'My shoes are too tight, but it doesn't matter, because I have forgotten how to dance.' I never understood what that meant until now. *My* shoes are too tight, and I have forgotten how to dance."

This is a classic Kosh scene. He is studying the viewer which is displaying images from Earth's history. Sinclair walks in to discuss the current situation and Kosh replies "We take no interest in the affairs of others." Sinclair notices the screen, and comments on it with the above lines.

The camoflage devices are prototypes of technology that is still under development at EarthForce research. It allows the bearer to be 'invisible' to anyone else in the room.

Londo says that he is going to send Kiron and Aria to his estate, where they will learn about Centauri traditions. Then, when they are adults, they will be permitted to make their own decision on marriage. --- Fosterage was also common on Earth during the medieval period. Children of the nobility would be sent to other courts to serve and be taught about courtliness and manners.

They were sent away from home so that they could not be spoilt by their own parents. ---

Red level surveillance includes monitoring of all movements and conversations. This turned out to be useful since Malcolm Biggs approached Roberts after the attack to try and recruit him into the Homeguard, allowing Sinclair and Garibaldi to find a way to set him up.

Malcolm Biggs was not present at the riot since he was having dinner with Ivanova. He did not find out about the riot until Sinclair calls Ivanova to tell her what G'Kar has been up to...Malcolm did not seem pleased.

This comes from Londo's conversation with Vir: "Love, pah! Overrated!" He points to the pictures of his wives. "These are my three wives--pestilence, famine, and death. Do you think I married them for their personalities? Their personalities could shatter worlds! Arranged marriages, every one.

But they worked out; they inspired me. Knowing that they were waiting at home for me is what keeps me here, 75 light-years away."

This is taken from G'Kar's speech at the riot. He looked truly menacing in this scene, not one I would want to be going up against. --- What's worse than a locked room full of angry Narns?...One angry Narn with the key. ---

Sinclair and Ivanova's attempts to trick Malcolm into believing that they are sympathetic to Homeguard's cause, Malcolm sets up a meeting where Sinclair will need to prove his sincerity. Malcolm has them meet him in the Zocalo, where he will be led to the actual location of the meeting.
