Shon is the son of M'ola and Tharg, and is suffering from a congestion in his upper air passages and will die without surgery. His religions prohibits medical procedures that involve making incisions in the patient, as they believe that the soul will leak out. Shon is killed by his parents after Dr. Franklin performs the surgery against his parents' wishes.

The starliner Asimov sends a distress call to Babylon 5... they've had a fire on board that has set them adrift. They are in raider territory, so Ivonova goes out to rescue them and bring them safely to Babylon 5.

They believe that the body should not be punctured, as the soul will leak out leaving an empty shell of a body behind. M'ola says: "You don't understand. Food animals are cut open. After Ivanova has arrived back 'safely' on Babylon 5, Garibaldi is there to greet her. They have a conversation about how her actions were not exactly following orders. She says that it was a calculated risk and they walk off as Garibaldi tells her the story of Shon and the surgery...how that calculated risk turned out badly.

Sinclair confronts Franklin after he finds out that Franklin went against his orders and performed the surgery. Since the surgery went well and the parents took Shon back, Franklin...looking rather smug...says the above line. Sinclair replies: "You better check the temperature in Hell first." Sinclair turns out to have been right in his decision, since Franklin finds that Shon is killed by his parents.

Sinclair refuses to allow the surgery to take place, since it would mean choosing between two different sets of religious beliefs. Franklin goes against Sinclairs orders and performs the surgery, resulting in the death of Shon at the hands of his parents.
