Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Walt was having a PET-CT scan to see if the cancer treatment was working, but he wouldn't get the doctor's results for four days. Why did he expect to hear bad news?

Answer: He saw a reflection of the scan image on the computer screen.

Before he went in for his test, Marie had told him that the technicians could read the scans just as well as the doctors, so after his test, Walt asked the technician how it looked. The technician, however, said that he was only a technician and that Walt would need to speak with his doctor.

But Walt was able to see a reflection of the computer screen on a picture, and he saw a large spot in his lung, so he figured that the treatment wasn't working. When he met Saul Goodman later, he told Saul that he only had weeks left.
2. Skyler suggested that they take a weekend trip to get their minds off of the scan results, but Walt had another idea. Where did he tell Skyler he was going?

Answer: To see his mom

Well, he did end up hanging out with Jesse, but that's not what he told Skyler. He told her that he was going to visit his mom because he wanted to make sure that his mom would leave money for Skyler if he died. Skyler was upset because it meant that Walt didn't expect the scan results to be good, but he said he just wanted to be prepared. Luckily for Walt, Skyler had no desire to see his mother, so he was able to go alone.

She even told Walt that she wouldn't call him unless it was an emergency because she didn't want to "risk talking to his mother".
3. Jane had talked Jesse into going to Santa Fe for the day before Walt called and ruined their plans. Where were Jane and Jesse planning to go?

Answer: A museum

When Jane asked Jesse if he'd been to the Georgia O'Keeffe museum, Jesse asked her if that was the atomic bomb museum (which he knew well since he had used it for a meeting point with his dealers). Jane was surprised that he'd never heard of O'Keeffe, and she convinced him to go by telling him that a lot of O'Keeffe's paintings resembled female anatomy.

But then Walt called while Jane was getting cereal and told Jesse to "clear your social calendar" because they needed to cook.
4. Walt told Jesse that they needed to cook for the next four days straight, but Jesse said he had plans to go to Santa Fe. What did Walt say to him to convince him to change his plans?

Answer: The methylamine was going bad.

Walt's conversation with Saul Goodman had convinced him to "make hay while the sun [was] still shining", so he had arranged for time away from Skyler to cook meth. Jesse, however, wasn't interested in changing his plans to go the museum with Jane until Walt said that they had to cook now because the methylamine was "losing its chemical potency". Walt pointed out that they would have to steal another barrel if that happened, and Jesse wasn't keen on that so he agreed to cook.
5. Skyler dropped Walt off at the airport, but a few minutes after he went in, he came out again and waited for Jesse to pick him up. Why was he shocked when his ride arrived?

Answer: Jesse was driving the RV.

Skyler dropped Walt off in front of the ticketing entrance at the Albuquerque airport and watched Walt enter the building. Less than a minute later, Walt walked back out of the building and stood on the curb, waiting for Jesse. Jesse arrived shortly thereafter, and to Walt's horror, he was driving the RV: "You brought a meth lab to the airport." Jesse responded that since Walt said he was in a hurry to cook, he thought he'd save a trip.

They then headed out into the wilderness.
6. While they were preparing for their extended meth cook, Walt reprimanded Jesse for tossing his keys on their work station. Where did Jesse then put the keys that would cause them grief later?

Answer: In the ignition

As they were changing clothes, the RV keys dropped from Jesse's pocket, and he tossed them on the counter. Walt said that the counter was their work station and told Jesse to "find a place where it won't get lost". So Jesse put the keys in the ignition and since he didn't hear a buzzer, he didn't realize that it was draining juice. He didn't notice that the indicator light on the dashboard was flashing, and when they tried to start the RV two days later, the battery was dead.
7. Jesse had spilled gasoline on the generator, and when he went to start it, it caught fire. What did he use to put out the fire?

Answer: The rest of their water

Jesse had talked Walt into taking a night off, getting a meal and a night's rest before finishing up their cooking, but when they went to leave, the RV's battery was dead. Walt wanted to try to jump it with the generator, but the generator was out of gas, so Walt siphoned gas from the RV, and Jesse poured it into the generator, spilling some of the gasoline.

When he went to start it, it burst into flames. Walt ran into the RV to get the fire extinguisher, and Jesse followed him, but grabbed the water instead and emptied it on the generator.

The fire was extinguished, but now they had no water and were still stuck in the wilderness.
8. Since they were stuck out in the wilderness, Jesse finally convinced Walt to let him use his phone. Whom did Jesse call for help?

Answer: Skinny Pete

Jesse wasn't able to get a signal with his cell phone, and he first asked to use Walt's phone shortly after they arrived at the cook site. Walt told him no since Skyler checked his phone records and would question him about the call. Now that they were stuck, Jesse tried again, unsuccessfully, to get a signal with his phone by using an antenna made of aluminum foil. Finally, Walt allowed him to use his phone to call for help, and Jesse called Skinny Pete.

Unfortunately, they were in the middle of nowhere, and Skinny Pete had trouble finding the place.

When Jesse called him a second time, Pete told him that he had just crossed the river, but there wasn't a river near them, so they knew he had gone the wrong direction. Walt's phone died in the middle of the conversation.
9. How did Walt and Jesse finally get the RV back to Albuquerque?

Answer: Walt built a battery.

Jesse had screamed at Walt to come up with something scientific to help them rather than whining. He pointed out that they had "an entire lab right here" and said that Walt should build a flare or robot or homing device or a battery. Walt's eyes opened when he said "battery". Walt asked Jesse if he had coins and told him to gather other bits of galvanized metal and the brake pads from the front wheels.

When Jesse asked what he was building, Walt responded, "You said it yourself". "A robot?" asked Jesse. Walt was able to build six cells using zinc from the coins, graphite from the brake pads, sponges soaked in potassium hydroxide and copper wiring and was able to charge the RV's battery with the cells.
10. The results of Walt's PET-CT scan showed that his cancer was in remission. When he was alone in the restroom, how did Walt react to the news?

Answer: He punched a towel dispenser.

The episode ended where it began, with everyone at a medical office. This time, they were in the oncologist's office, and the doctor informed them that Walt's scan showed signs of remission. Walt had been expecting the worst, so he was surprised by the information.

The doctor explained that remission merely meant that the tumor hadn't grown, but in Walt's case the tumor had shrunk by 80 percent. The doctor showed them the scan picture that Walt had seen earlier and explained that the spot in Walt's lungs was a tissue inflammation from the radiation treatment and that was causing his cough.

The doctor also told him that the blood that he was coughing up was probably from a tear in his esophagus and they'd fix that. Walt went into the restroom afterwards and maybe it was the water running through his hands that reminded him of the time in the wilderness without water - something snapped and when he looked at his reflection on the metal towel dispenser, he repeatedly pummeled it.
