Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the beginning of the episode, Jesse was standing on a corner waiting for Skinny Pete. What was Jesse playing with, that Pete squashed when he arrived?

Answer: Beetle

Jesse was waiting for Pete at a corner near the railroad tracks. While he was waiting, he spotted a beetle walking on the ground, and he amused himself by letting it crawl over his hand. When Pete arrived, Pete promptly squashed it. Pete was there to give Jesse the address of the two addicts who robbed him. "These two, they need to get got", said Pete.

He also said that he would do it but he was on probation.
2. When Jesse arrived at the house of the addicts who had robbed Skinny Pete, he stood on the porch, practicing his bad guy voice for the attack. Who interrupted him?

Answer: The mail carrier

"Do not mess with me, I will bury you 'cause I'm crazy" and "I will mess you up" were among the phrases that he practiced as he waited for someone to answer the door. But then he heard the squeaking wheels of the mail carrier's cart, and he quickly hid his gun as she approached the house. "Looks like it's gonna be a nice day, huh", she said to Jesse, after telling him he was blocking the mailbox. "Yeah, high 70s", Jesse replied, and then he cheerfully said, "Right on, you too" after she told him to have a nice day.
3. When Jesse broke into the addicts' house, he found the place in shambles. What else did he find in the house?

Answer: A small boy

Jesse didn't think anyone was there so he sat down on the sofa to wait for the addicts to return. Then the boy walked in, turned on the television and sat on the sofa. Jesse asked him his name but received no response; Jesse told the boy he was called "Diesel". Jesse then asked him if he wanted to watch something besides the home shopping channel but found out the TV only received one channel.

When the boy finally talked, he said he was hungry so Jesse made him a marshmallow creme sandwich, which was apparently the only food he could find in the house.

He then played a game of peekaboo to amuse the boy, and he put the boy in his bedroom when the couple returned.
4. On Walt's first day back at work, teaching high school chemistry, who watched his class and chatted with him afterward?

Answer: The assistant principal

Walt was giving the class a lesson on carbon, the building block of life. He told them the story of H. Tracy Hall, who invented the process for making synthetic diamonds while working for General Electric in the 1950s. He told them that General Electric made a fortune off of Hall's invention, while the only reward they gave Hall was a $10 savings bond.

The assistant principal was watching the class and seemed a bit uncomfortable by Walt's slight bitterness when he told the story. After class, she told him if he needed to talk, she was there for him: "Please feel comfortable coming to me with any problems, any issues. Anything at all. You know, completely confidential", probably in response to Walt's naked stroll through the grocery store.
5. While Walt and Flynn were driving home after school, they discussed hypothetically burying some people up to their necks in the desert and letting ants or scorpions get them. For whom did they intend this punishment?

Answer: The people who left the missing person's flier on Walt's car

When Walt and Flynn got to the car, Walt found one of the missing person's fliers that his family had made for him on the car. It had been modified to say "I'm missing my pants!" and "I'm buck naked". As Walt was driving home, he asked Flynn if he knew who might have left it, to which Flynn replied that he might know who it was. Walt then suggested that the two of them drive the culprits out into the desert, strip them and bury them up to their necks on a fire ant hill. Flynn smiled and suggested scorpions instead. "Scorpions are good", agreed Walt.
6. While Jesse was at the house of the addicts who robbed Skinny Pete, how did the addict, Spooge, die?

Answer: An ATM fell on him.

The addicts had stolen an ATM from the Rio Grande Fruits and Vegetables bodega. When Jesse saw the ATM, he said, "That's my bank", but Spooge claimed it was a victimless crime because the money was insured. However he neglected to mention that someone, apparently the clerk, had been shot dead during the robbery. Spooge and his woman had stolen several ATMs before; he claimed that she was really strong.

But they had never managed to break into them. After both Spooge and Jesse tried breaking into it with a sledgehammer, Spooge propped the ATM up and was trying to break into it from underneath it.

He was verbally abusing his woman, repeatedly calling her a skank, which really irritated her, so she pushed the ATM. Jesse saw what she was going to do and tried to stop it, but the ATM fell on Spooge, making a sound rather similar to his name.
7. Who stopped by to see Skyler, leaving her Bentley parked in the driveway?

Answer: Gretchen Schwartz

Skyler had received a phone message from Gretchen, asking how Walt was doing, so Skyler returned the call and profusely thanked Gretchen for paying for Walt's treatment. Gretchen was confused and asked if she could stop by that afternoon. When Walt and Flynn arrived home, they met Gretchen in the house, and Flynn thanked her also. Gretchen hadn't said anything to Skyler about the money yet, but when Walt went out to see her off and asked her not to say anything, she drove off.
8. What happened while Jesse was wiping the surfaces in the addicts' house to remove his fingerprints?

Answer: Cash fell out of the ATM.

After Spooge's woman pushed the ATM on Spooge, she took a hit of the drugs in his pocket and appeared to pass out. Jesse was horrified by what she had done to Spooge and wanted to get out of there. He quickly wiped every surface he had touched, including the ATM, but when he wiped the door, it opened and cash fell out.

He grabbed some of the cash, retrieving the money that was the original purpose of his visit. The scene received criticism from some reviewers for being unrealistic, but hey - it's television.
9. When Walt arrived home after meeting Gretchen Schwartz at a restaurant, Skyler told him that Gretchen had called to say that they couldn't pay for Walt's treatment any longer. What reason did Walt give Skyler for this news?

Answer: Gretchen and Elliott were broke.

Walt met with Gretchen at a restaurant and apologized for involving her in his lie but refused to tell her more. She said that he owed her the truth, which seemed to irritate him, and he lashed out at her, accusing her and Elliott of making money off of his work. Gretchen was aghast; she said he had left her, walked away and abandoned the company.

She left their meeting in tears. Later when Walt arrived home, Skyler said that Gretchen called and told her they were cutting off the money. Walt told Skyler that he had driven up to see Gretchen and Elliott and that he believed that they were broke. Walt blamed it on the economy. Skyler was surprised that Gretchen still drove a Bentley if that was the case, but Walt claimed they were just keeping up appearances.
10. At the end of the episode, sirens could be heard approaching as Jesse was leaving the addicts' house. What had alerted the authorities?

Answer: Jesse had dialed 911.

After wiping his prints from around the house, Jesse dialed 911 and left the phone off the hook. He was about to leave when he remembered the boy and went back to get him. He told the boy to cover his eyes, like he was playing peekaboo and keep them closed.

He didn't want the boy to see the body in the living room. Jesse wrapped the boy in a blanket, put him outside on the front steps and told him to stay there. He told the boy to "have a good rest of your life, kid" as he left with sirens approaching.
