Doug Hutchinson, who originated the role of Horace Goodspeed, played the role of Horace for seven episodes for the first five seasons of "Lost." In 1999, Hutchinson starred in the Academy Award nominated film, "The Green Mile."

In a flashback, Richard Alpert was seen, taking to a young John Locke, and he told him he ran a school for kids who were special, like him. Richard gave John a glove and other materials and asked him to think about going to the school. Richard asked John to tell him, of the materials, which ones belonged to him and John said a knife belonged to him. Richard grabbed the knife, from John, and told John's grandmother he was not ready for the school.

Sayid spoke to someone, on the freighter, and told him there was only one way they could all live and that was to get everyone off the island. The man told Sayid to meet him behind the container in ten minutes. The man informed Sayid that the boat, to get the people off the island, will be in the water and ready to make a rescue. All this time, Desmond was right by Sayid's side.

Locke, Ben, and Hurley stopped walking to the cabin, for a couple of minutes, and John told Hurley he did not want him to continue looking for the cabin anymore. Locke informed Hurley that he realized Hurley might be in danger and he also felt he was holding Hurley against his will and did not want to further jeopardize Hurley. Hurley told John that he probably would not be safer by wandering through the island at night, by himself. Hurley decided to not follow Locke to the cabin and he went off on his own.
