Kate received a call that there had been a murder victim down by a theater in New York City. They were unable to identify him since he had no identification on him but Castle recognized the victim. He said his name was Lance Delorca since he was a major action film star in the 1980s.

Back at the police station, Castle, Kevin and Javier were watching a scene from one of Lance's films. Castle was giving a synopsis of the film and it involved a kidnapped archaeologist. Castle claimed that Lance's character's name in the movie was Rico Cruz.

Kate went to interview Lance's widow, Kat Kingsley, to see if she could figure out anything as to why her husband had died. According to Kat, Lance did not have any major enemies who she could think of that would want her husband dead.

The team looked at some footage that showed what Lance had done just before his death. They were surprised to see him fight off four people despite how he had grown older over the years. However, the team was unable to identify any of the four people.

Henry was involved with Lance because he had a bunch of slot cars and Lance was investigating drug deals that involved slot cars. However, when questioned by Castle and Kate, Henry claimed he was at the studio the day Lance died. He claimed that 20 people could attest to him remaining at the studio after Lance left the studio that day.

Near the beginning of the show, Castle went to interview Brock Harmon, who was close to Lance. Brock stated that he cast Lance in a new movie because Lance got sober after getting his cancer in remission. This movie was another installment in a series that previously starred Lance.

Castle and the team continued investigating Lance's murder and they learned that he stayed at a seedy hotel. While there, he used the name of Rico Cruz, who was his character in "Hard Kill".
