Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During Cycle 13, Tyra only cast models with what significant feature?

Answer: Below a certain height

For this thirteenth cycle of the show, Tyra decided that she would scour the nation for a new face in fashion, but this time she would break the mold. In the end, she chose thirty-two girls, each of whom was below five feet, seven inches in height, typically regarded as too short for modeling in any circumstance (Kate Moss, for instance, was five-foot-seven). All of the girls were sent to Los Angeles where they were narrowed down to twenty and, after a runway show and photo shoots, down again to fourteen unique individuals.
2. In Week 1, the girls discovered that one girl, Amber, had left the competition before it had begun. She was replaced by which model who was also the first to be eliminated?

Answer: Lisa

In their first week, the girls returned to Los Angeles. Before moving into their Top Model digs for this cycle, they were all treated to early makeovers at a salon in the city. While some were changed drastically to be more fashionable, some required only minimal touch-ups.

After moving into their house, the girls had a shoot involving their old baby pictures-- they had to recreate their photographs to be fashionable and modern. At the judging panel, it was decided that Lisa was to be sent home, mainly because of her lackluster photo and the fact that she was not originally meant to be part of the final fourteen; she was figured to not be making the most of the opportunity.
3. In week two, the girls met with modeling executives and one girl, Rachel, was eliminated on the spot at what agency?

Answer: Wilhelmina Models

In the second week of the competition, the girls got the chance to meet with the owner of Wilhelmina Models and Nigel Barker individually to give their first impressions. Based on this visit, however, it was decided that one of them, Rachel, would be sent home for a lack of charisma in person.

After this, the week's lessons turned to the Tyra Banks 'smize' (better known as 'smiling with the eyes'). After a challenge won by half of the girls, the shoot this week was at a racecourse with a horse and jockey.

They had to pose topless and make sure they smized for the camera. Ultimately, Courtney was deemed the weakest in panel, mainly because of her broken foot issues, and she was sent home.
4. Which girl was immune from elimination in the fourth week of competition (during the scarf photo shoot)?

Answer: Brittany

During their third week, the girls met with Jay Alexander to perfect their runway walks. After a fashion show, Brittany was able to bring Laura and Kara with her to a "Seventeen" photo editorial. At the subsequent shoot, the girls ended up needing to create the illusion of length on-set.

Although Brittany was said to have shortened herself in the shot, the judges sent home Lulu. In week 4, the girls learned about make-up before participating in a CoverGirl challenge at their local Wal-Mart. Using Lash Blast Length (there's a theme, eh?) they needed to create a look to wow the judges-- Nigel Barker and his wife. Sundai won the reward.

The shoot this week involved scarves and close-ups and would be shot by Tyra who said that whoever modeled the best would be immune from elimination despite their final photo; Brittany won this privilege. Bianca was sent home because, after so many shoots and warnings, she continued to look too hard in her photos.
5. In week five, the girls had a lesson with Benny Ninja. What were they taught?

Answer: Dancing

The fifth week of the competition brought the girls in to see Benny Ninja. This time, Benny was called in to teach the girls how to dance; he brought Lil Mama in to show them the basics, but she brought in the winners of "America's Best Dance Crew" season one, The Jabbawockeez, who performed wearing masks.

The girls would have to portray happiness, sadness, and anger in the same fashion without using facial expressions. Jennifer, Rae, and Kara won the challenge and received jewelery as a reward. Flying out to Las Vegas, the girls then had a shoot performing with Cirque du Soleil. Ashley, despite being a dancer, was criticized for holding back too much.

After a second week in the bottom two she was eliminated.
6. During go-sees in Los Angeles, how many of the girls did not make it back to their agency before the deadline?

Answer: Two

In week six, the girls headed off on their first-ever go-sees through Los Angeles. They had until 4:00pm to visit as many locations as they could (in groups of two, driving themselves with a map for guidance). Rae and Sundai did not make it back in time while Nicole won the task.

This week, the shoot forced the girls to pose in wire harnesses and with weapons. Kara was sent home for falling short of the judges' expectations. The next week, the girls had interview practice at "The Insider" studios and subsequently acted in their first Cover Girl commercials for a lash extender.

Despite Erin's constant crying, the judges felt she had more potential than otherwise front-runner Rae.
7. For the first time in "America's Next Top Model" history, the models did not head to an international destination. To which state did they travel instead?

Answer: Hawaii

Heading back to their home after judging, the girls were told that they would be flying to Maui, Hawaii for the remainder of their competition. After arriving, the girls had surfing lessons and ended up participating in a surfing shoot challenge with male models. Erin won and received a helicopter tour ride of Maui (with Brittany and Nicole).

The shoot for this week involved portraying mixed-race women of all sorts and all of them were shot by Tyra (for a second time in the competition). At the judging panel, Brittany was deemed the worst of the group and she was sent back home.
8. The final five, after participating in a cliff-diving photo challenge, received extra frames in their subsequent photo shoot as a reward. Which girl did not receive extra frames?

Answer: Erin

Meeting with supermodel Marisa Miller for a lesson in swimsuit modeling, the girls were surprised when Nigel Barker appeared to tell them they would be jumping off a cliff into the ocean while a photographer would get one shot of their plunge. The winner, Nicole, won a $5,000 chocolate pearl necklace and got to choose a girl who, along with her, could receive extra frames during the next photo shoot. That girl could then give more extra frames to someone else, and then that girl would do the same. Ultimately, only one girl would not receive extra shots-- that was Erin. For their next shoot, the girls had to pose underwater and, at panel, the judges sent Sundai home for doing a poorer job than Erin despite having more opportunity to wow the judges with more photos.
9. While competing as the final four in the penultimate week of the cycle, the girls were shocked to discover which of these?

Answer: Two of them would be eliminated at panel

This week, the girls started by joining together for a hula/hip-hop dance challenge and Laura was able to show her moves (despite Erin's cheerleading backgroun) to win a trip back to Maui after the show. Before their next shoot posing as a Hawaiian goddess in front of the crashing waves of the surf, the girls were told that half of them would be cut from the competition at the next panel leaving only two girls left in the running.

When they met with the judges, Jennifer and Erin were told that they were out while Nicole and Laura were left in.
10. Who was "America's Next Top Model" in Cycle 13?

Answer: Nicole

In the final week of the cycle, Nicole and Laura headed to their Cover Girl commercial and photo shoot for Lash Blast Mascara. While Nigel Barker worked behind the photography camera, Jay Manuel led the girls through the commercial shoot. This was followed by the girls' "Seventeen" magazine ad shoot. Finally, both girls ended up joining previous Top Model Teyona and, surprisingly, four of their past competitors, in a runway show for Julia Clancey. Finally, it was decided that despite her awkwardness, Nicole would be the next top model becoming the second petite model to do so (the first was back in Cycle 3-- Eva).

After the show, Nicole took home the $100,000 contract with Cover Girl, her spread in "Seventeen" magazine, and her contract with Wilhelmina Models. In addition to further print work, Nicole took up acting.
