According to Lisa, Bart needs to play the game to study for his big I.Q. test, which his whole class is preparing to take.

At school, Martin the teacher's pet tells Principal Skinner that Bart is vandalizing the school. When Skinner investigates, Bart is literally caught 'red-handed'. Martin feels that Bart shouldn't hold the grudge against him as they begin to get ready for the I.Q. test, but Bart is too angry because he has to go to the Principal's office.

Martin ends up finishing the first and leaves the class early. When Ms. Krabappel is distracted, Bart takes Martin's test paper and switches the names on them so that he does better. When Marge and Homer visit Principal Skinner regarding the vandalism after school, Dr. Pryor, the school's psychiatrist, mentions that Bart is a gifted child due to his high scores on the aptitude test.

After telling the family that Bart's I.Q. is at a staggering 216, he doesn't suggest that Bart be given special treatment at Springfield Elementary, but instead, he should be sent to a school for gifted children. Principal Skinner seconds the idea in order to get rid of Bart, and they enroll Bart on the spot. Bart likes the idea because he can do whatever work he wants at the new school.
