Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is Bart forced to sit next to on the bus ride to the Nuclear Power Plant?

Answer: Wendell

In the beginning of this episode, Bart's class is going on a field trip to the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant that Homer works at. Since he was talking to Otto instead of getting on the bus, Bart was forced to take the only open seat next to Wendell who happens to throw up on every bus ride.

Sherri and Terri, who sit behind Bart and Wendell, try to get Bart in trouble by kissing him and making him scream.
2. Who is the narrator for the movie about nuclear power, that Bart's class watches?

Answer: Smilin' Joe Fission

When the bus arrives at the Nuclear Plant, Waylon Smithers talks to the kids about nuclear energy before their tour and has them watch a video about the benefits of nuclear power. In the video, a small character named Smilin' Joe Fission assures the viewers that although nuclear energy may be safe, there will always be nuclear waste, but it can just be swept under the rug.
3. Homer is fired by Mr. Burns.

Answer: False

Knowing that Bart's class is going through the power plant, Homer drives a small motorized cart around to get to where the action is. When Bart tries to get Homer's attention from a catwalk, Homer accidentally crashes into a large pipe and puts the plant in danger. He ends up getting fired by Sherri and Terri's father, who also works at the plant.
4. This episode marks the first of Bart's prank calls to Moe's Tavern. Who does Bart call for?

Answer: I. P. Freely

After getting fired, Homer decides to get out and get a new job. Unfortunately, no one will hire him, so he goes for a drink at Moe's. This is when the prank call is sent. Evidently, this isn't the first time that Bart and Lisa have called Moe's. Homer leaves the bar when he realizes he's out of money and Moe comments that he doesn't think Homer will get a new job.
5. Where did Marge once work?

Answer: A restaurant

When Marge feels that Homer is stressing too much about getting a new job, she reminds him that he's always been a good provider and she volunteers to go back to work. Before they got married, Marge worked at a restaurant that made her wear rollerskates and deliver meals to peoples' cars. She says she'll never forget how to do the job, but it's pretty clear that she dislikes doing it.
6. While watching TV, Homer views a commercial for which product?

Answer: Duff Beer

Although the kids try to ask Homer if he's okay, he's spaced out because of his unemployment. When they leave, a commercial for Duff Beer appears on the TV and he finds that it's a good temporary solution, so he goes to the fridge. When he doesn't find any beer in the fridge, he decides to find money to buy some, and he steals Bart's piggy bank and breaks it open.

He realizes that he's gone too far and that he wants to commit suicide.
7. How does Homer plan to commit suicide?

Answer: By drowning

After writing a note to the family, Homer leaves the house with a giant boulder and heads to a nearby bridge to jump into the river. Luckily, the family gets the note and heads to the bridge. When they arrive, they're nearly hit by a car but Homer pulls them away just in time.

He vows to get a stop sign placed at the intersection in order to enforce safety and he calls off his suicide.
8. What is the alias of the graffiti vandal in Springfield?

Answer: El Barto

The family goes to City Hall to help Homer get the stop sign at the dangerous intersection and Chief Wiggum brings up the vandal known as El Barto. When a mugshot is passed around, it looks strikingly similar to Bart (who was witnessed for doing the crime). When the stop sign issue is brought up, the idea is immediately passed and Homer decides to help out in various other ways.
9. How long does Mr. Burns give Homer to accept a job at the power plant?

Answer: Thirty seconds

After promoting safety in the community, Homer decides to oppose the power plant he previously worked for. When Mr. Burns sees this, he instructs Smithers to bring Homer to his office where he offers him a job in the safety department of the plant. Unfortunately, he only gives Homer half a minute to decide if he wants the job and he thinks it over in his head.
10. Does Homer return to the Nuclear Power Plant as an employee?

Answer: Yes

After thinking it over, Homer accepts the job and Mr. Burns tells him to tell the crowd that the plant is safe. Homer says that he can't do that, but he promises the crowd that he can try and make the plant safer as an employee. The episode ends when he trips off of Mr. Burns' office balcony and falls into the crowd. Throughout most of the series, Homer continues with this position at the plant.
