Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams completed their first Detour of the race in Leg 1 on which famous beach?

Answer: Copacabana Beach

Teams flew to Rio de Janeiro for their first leg of the race and after getting a birds-eye view of the city in a helicopter, teams took to the hot sands of Copacabana Beach for a choice between two tasks: 'Sand' and 'Sidewalk'. In 'Sand', teams played foot volleyball against pros (though they were able to use their hands and head if they wished). Once they got 6 points before the pro players could get triple that score, they got their clue. Those choosing 'Sidewalk' stayed on the boardwalk to complete a complicated slide puzzle replicating the design of the nearby pathway. Following this task, teams raced to the first Pit Stop.
2. In Argentina in Leg 2, teams visited a limited-space Detour. There were only eight carts for use in the 'Cartoneros' Detour option. How many teams finished the task?

Answer: Nine

Although these limits were created to account for the amount of carts available for the teams to collect cardboard with, it's clear that timing was everything. In the 'Cartoneros' task, teams had to accumulate one hundred kilos of cardboard from receptacles in the Buenos Aires streets. Teams could take a cart if not in use, so later teams could claim a cart upon arrival if it became available (as Jazmine and Danielle ended up doing). Only Kelsey and Joey completed the other task, 'Fletero', which required that they transport an art piece across the city instead.
3. The Detour encountered by teams in Zimbabwe in Leg 4 was evenly split between the teams. Half completed the 'Co-op' Detour option while the other half played which sport?

Answer: Croquet

Flying to Zambia but ending up in Zimbabwe in Leg 4, teams awakened to depart for their Detour early in the morning. In 'Co-op', teams had to join the local arts and crafts workforce by selecting a wooden giraffe and properly staining and polishing their piece to the approval of the artisans on-hand.

It proved to be a lengthy task, pushing Cindy and Rick, Logan and Chris, Tiffany and Krista, and Jazmine and Danielle to the back of the pack. The quicker teams (Justin and Diana, Tanner and Josh, Kelsey and Joey, and Denise and James Earl), played 'Croquet' and scored five points against local players to claim their next clue.

This leg of the race also featured a U-Turn, but it was unsuccessfully used by last place team Tiffany and Krista (against first place team Justin and Diana).
4. An Express Pass was used during the 'Canoe' Detour task in Leg 5 (in Zimbabwe).

Answer: False

At the end of Leg 4, Tanner and Josh were required to pass their Express Pass on to another team of their choosing, and when they gave it to Denise and James Earl it allowed the mother-son team to skip over any task in Leg 5. They elected to use it upon arriving at the 'Crocs' Detour task in Victoria Falls, allowing them to bypass all the other teams and take a win. Everyone else split themselves between a canoeing task and a task that allowed them to feed crocodiles in an underwater cage.
5. Which team did not complete the 'Bust a Crab' Detour task in Paris in Leg 6?

Answer: Denise and James Earl

Visiting sunny Paris, France in Leg 6, teams had very different Detour options to try their hands at. In 'Drops Mic', teams visited the edge of the Seine to work with hip-hop artists, learning a French rap that they needed to perform with pronunciation, rhythm and vibe to get their clue. Justin and Diana, Tiffany and Krista, Kelsey and Joey, and Denise and James Earl completed this.

In 'Bust a Crab', teams instead visited a local brasserie to recreate a complicated seafood platter. Cindy and Rick, Tanner and Josh, and Chris and Logan managed this one.
6. In Leg 7, how long did teams completing the 'Ship' task have to complete their training exercise?

Answer: Five minutes

In Rotterdam, Netherlands in Leg 7, teams could choose between either 'Ship' or 'Skip'. Most teams chose 'Ship', which allowed them to learn how to operate a ship in a stormy port via a unique training simulator. In five minutes, participating teams had to deliver a pilot to a ship (using proper navigation techniques) and then respond to a ship in distress. Tiffany and Krista were the only team not to attempt this task, instead completing a forty-five second double dutch routine before racing to the Pit Stop.
7. Teams completing the 'Music' Detour task in Krakow (in Leg 8) played what instrument?

Answer: Piano

In Poland, teams could choose between backbreaking labour in the Wieliczka Salt Mine or world-class musicmaking in Krakow's Main Square. Half of the teams opted to complete 'Mine', which involved hauling timber and a mine cart full of salt through the tunnels of a 13th century Polish salt mine while the other half stayed topside to learn, move, and perform on a piano for cash on the Krakow streets. Both tasks required heavy lifting, but to varying degrees.
8. Which team was U-Turned in Leg 9 (in Agra, India), leading to their elimination?

Answer: Tanner and Josh

Leg 9 was a tough leg for Tanner and Josh who not only needed to complete the Road Block twice (to deal with an unorthodox Speed Bump), but they needed to complete both sides of the Detour in Agra due to Kelsey and Joey's use of the U-Turn. In this leg, teams had to complete 'Cans' or 'Candy', the former of which forced teams to transport metal oil tins through a busy market (on the back of a cargo bike) and the latter of which involved making a traditional candy known as petha.
9. Did Leg 10 (in Agra, India) contain a Double U-Turn?

Answer: No

While the tenth leg of the race, held in Agra, India, didn't contain a Double U-Turn it did contain the surprise twist of not only a third single U-Turn for this race, but a U-Turn placed before the Detour instead of after it, allowing a team to pre-decide which team behind them would be doing both tasks. Justin and Diana ended up using this race mechanic to send Logan and Chris to complete both tasks but it was unable to push them back to last place, making them the first survivors of a single U-Turn in the U.S. "Amazing Race".
10. The final Detour of the race involved either tailoring a suit or searching through which of these?

Answer: Cell phones

Heading to Hong Kong in Leg 11, teams needed to choose between either 'Sam's' or 'Cells'. In 'Sam's', most teams ended up heading to a city tailor's workshop to cut out men's suit panels which could be made into a jacket. Teams didn't need to make the jacket, however; instead they had to deliver a finished jacket to the owner's shop to get their clue. Justin and Diana chose 'Cells', sending them to a marked stall in Hong Kong to find a cell phone which would lead them to the location of their next clue.
