Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Montreal in Leg 1, teams either completed 'Jazz' or which alternative option?

Answer: 'Pizzazz'

When teams finished their Road Block they could pursue their first Detour task in Montreal, a choice between 'Jazz' and 'Pizzazz', taking advantage of Montreal's unique arts and cultural avenues. In 'Jazz', teams learned how to scat, live with a band accompaniment to a track by Ranee Lee. If they could hit the notes and correctly improvise along to the music they could keep racing.

In 'Pizzazz', teams could visit a Montreal burlesque theatre to learn and perform a striptease for a waiting audience. Though only two teams completed 'Jazz', eight went for 'Pizzazz'.
2. In the second leg of the race, teams completed 'Hoot', which involved owls, or 'Herd', which involved which other animal during their Detour?

Answer: Goats

Visiting Indian Battle Park in Lethbridge, Alberta, teams split off to complete either 'Herd' or 'Hoot', both of which involved memory and animals. In 'Herd', teams had to hop into an enclosure to count the numbers found on bandanas worn by local goats. If they could add up the numbers by memory based on their coloured bandana, they could get their next clue.

In 'Hoot', teams instead learned the calls of seven different owls, combining them with their descriptions to get their next clue. Only Brendan and Connor and Cedric and Tychon completed the 'Hoot' task while all others finished 'Herd'.
3. Teams completing the 'Ready to Roll' Detour task in Leg 3 (in Fernie, B.C.) made which of these?

Answer: Bicycles

Both Detour options teams encountered in Fernie, B.C. had teams get involved in activities commonly encountered in the Kootenay Mountains. 'Ready to Roll' involved mountain biking as five teams needed to head to a local bike shop to build five mountain bikes from scratch (with nothing more than a provided example). 'Learning to Fly', however, had teams memorize the order and names of twenty different fishing flies that they would need to properly reorder on the banks of the Elk River.
4. Visiting the Okanagan Valley in Leg 5, some teams opted to make pies for their Detour task using which fruit?

Answer: Apples

The Detour found near Vernon, B.C. in Leg 5 put people into a competition of dexterity or into a bake-off. In 'Ball'n', five teams went lawn bowling, competing against Vernon's elderly community in an attempt to rack up five points against their opponents. 'Pomme'n', the alternative option, sent teams to Davison Orchards to prepare five miniature apple pies for baking.

While Jesse and Marika, Franca and Nella, Brendan and Connor, Cassie and Jahmeek, and Cedric and Tychon completed 'Ball'n', Beverley and Veronica and Jully and Kathy finished 'Pomme'n'.
5. In London, Ontario, both Detour tasks took place on the campus of what city institution?

Answer: Fanshawe College

Though both tasks, 'Animate' and 'Aviate', took place at Fanshawe College, the challenges themselves couldn't be more different. In 'Animate', which most teams completed, one team member needed to become a director to instruct their teammate in navigating a motion-capture space, recreating a provided video. If they could replicate the original, they would get their next clue.

In 'Aviate', teams instead used their mechanical senses to properly assemble the propellor of a Cessna 150 airplane. While Beverley and Veronica, Cedric and Tychon, and Brendan and Connor completed the latter task, Franca and Nella, Catherine and Craig, Jesse and Marika, Court and Ali, and Cassie and Jahmeek went for the former.
6. In Leg 7, some teams made bath bombs as part of their Detour task in Prince Edward County. Which task was it for?

Answer: 'Push It'

Both teams required very different skillsets to accomplish when teams raced to Belleville and Picton in Leg 7. In 'Press It', teams had to operate a classic printing press, accumulating letters, placing them into their press in reverse, and properly pressing a full paragraph on a piece of paper. Brendan and Connor, Jesse and Marika, and Cedric and Tychon completed this. All other teams went with 'Push It', which had team members make fifteen proper bath bombs while their partners waited inside a tub of water.
7. Both Detour options encountered by teams in Leg 9 (in New Brunswick) involved replicating items at which type of location?

Answer: A resort

Flying to the Acadian region of New Brunswick in Leg 9, teams ended off a series of tasks with a Detour that required an eye for detail no matter which choice they took, and both options took place at the beachside resort of Cielo. In 'Oyster Shuck', nearly all teams replicated seafood platters by shucking two dozen oysters (properly) and garnishing their dishes with all proper accoutrements while in 'Clean & Tuck', only Jesse and Marika furnished and decorated glamping domes to the approval of the resort's owner.

After this, teams could race to the Pit Stop.
8. How many Detours did teams encounter in the eleven legs of this race?

Answer: Seven

Though this season featured a number of dynamic tasks that tested teams' capabilities and decision-making abilities, only seven legs of the race saw Detours presented; legs 4, 8, 10, and 11 sidestepped the need for this staple challenge type. Interestingly, Leg 5 featured not only two Road Blocks, but a Detour as well, generally a pattern not seen in the race since the Double Road Block forces both team members to complete separate tasks, a challenge in and of itself.
9. How many teams used an Express Pass to skip over a Detour in this season of the race?

Answer: One

While this season saw the use of three different Express Passes (handed out by Brendan and Connor following an early race win), only one of those was used on a Detour. In Leg 6, when teams visited London, Ontario, Jesse and Marika used their Express Pass to pass through the 'Animate' Detour option and avoid elimination. Both Brendan and Connor and Franca and Nella used theirs on an Active Route Info challenge in Belleville in Leg 7.
10. Did this season of the race feature any U-Turns or Double U-Turns?

Answer: No

Possibly due to the logistics of having more teams engage with more moving parts in each leg, the U-Turn was unseen in this season of the race in any form. This was the second season of "The Amazing Race Canada" not to use the U-Turn as it also didn't appear in the seventh season.

Instead, season 7 introduced the Double One Way. In its place in this season, teams encountered the Double Pass in Leg 7, which acted as a modified Yield.
