Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Racing to the Okanagan Valley in Leg 5, teams' first Road Block in Leg 5 involved which of these adventurous activities?

Answer: Paragliding

Leaving the Canmore Nordic Centre at the start of Leg 5, seven teams headed to Calgary International Airport and took a flight into the heart of British Columbia, landing in Kelowna for a series of tasks in the Okanagan Valley. To begin, teams grabbed a 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer RS and drove to the Freedom Flight School near Vernon, but first, they would rip open a Road Block clue and choose one team member to perform a tandem paraglide over the beautiful B.C. landscape. Team members completing this task, departing after an overnight stay, included Nella, Kathy, Veronica, Tychon, Marika, Brendan, and Jahmeek.
2. For the Speed Bump encountered in Leg 5, Cassie and Jahmeek had to sort which of these?

Answer: Ski boots

After team members wrapped up their paragliding Road Block, they opened their next clues to find another Road Block task. This being said, Cassie and Jahmeek, who placed last in the previous non-elimination leg, had to first finish a Speed Bump task that was placed right before Cassie had to pursue the Road Block.

While all teams arrived at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, Cassie and Jahmeek had to sort a pile of cross-country ski boots by size and style before continuing on with the race.
3. Which racer completed the biathlon Road Block in Vernon, B.C. in Leg 5?

Answer: Jully

Immediately after completing the first Road Block of the leg, teams opened a second, meaning that whoever went tandem paragliding would need to commit themselves to an otherwise unknown task at the Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre in Silver Star Provincial Park.

There, the participant was required to participate in a biathlon, cross-country skiing around a three hundred meter loop and then firing to hit five targets with five shots. If they failed to hit all five, they would need to complete the loop again to try another five shots for the remainder. Connor, Franca, Jesse, Jully, Cedric, Beverley, and Cassie were all required to finish this challenge.
4. In the 'Ball'n' Detour task in Leg 5, teams competed using which of these sporting items?

Answer: Lawn bowls

Wrapping up their second Road Block, teams opened a Detour clue forcing a choice between 'Ball'n' and 'Pomme'n'. In 'Ball'n', teams played a game of lawn bowling, aiming to get their ball closest to the jack in each round. If they could get five points, they'd get their next clue.

In 'Pomme'n', however, teams located Davison Orchards where they had to make five mini apple pies from scratch. If they had them perfect and ready for the oven, they'd get their next clue. Only Beverley and Veronica and Jully and Kathy completed 'Pomme'n' while all the other teams went lawn bowling.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Vernon, B.C. in Leg 5?

Answer: Jully and Kathy

Only one challenge separated teams from the fifth Pit Stop, and it involved heading to Jealous Fruits Orchard on the edge of Lake Okanagan and, after counting the number of trees in a marked section, calculating the weight of cherries that would be produced by those trees. If they could get the correct number, they could drive to the Predator Ridge Resort in Vernon and check in on the fifth Pit Stop mat on the community's yoga platform.

Here, Jesse and Marika arrived in first (followed very closely by Franca and Nella).

The former won themselves a trip for two to London, England as well as a $2,000 gift card from Marshall's. At the end of the leg, Cedric and Tychon took a two-hour penalty for taking other teams' answers at the cherry challenge. Fortunately for them, Jully and Kathy did the same thing in error, getting them eliminated once again.
6. Before visiting London, Ontario for the sixth leg of the race, teams stopped off in which other Ontario city?

Answer: Toronto

Leaving the Predator Ridge Resort in Kelowna, British Columbia, teams needed to fly most-way across Canada to the Province of Ontario, bringing themselves to Toronto to find a task waiting at the Marshall's store at Yonge and Gerrard St., downtown. There, teams had to go on a shopping spree, searching the store for articles of clothing to make an outfit depicted for them in an illustration. If they could find the proper items, spending under $200 total, they would get their next clue and be able to take themselves south to the city of London, Ontario by train.
7. How many teams re-entered the race using the On-Ramp Pass in Leg 6?

Answer: Two

Reaching the Forest City of London, teams made their way to the tenth fairway at the East Park Golf Gardens to encounter Jon Montgomery and a very special, unexpected challenge-- one that the racers did not need to participate in themselves. Instead, Catherine and Craig, Court and Ali, and Dennis and Durrell, all of whom were removed from the race after Leg 3 due to COVID-19, were cleared to return. To get that chance, they would have to compete in the On-Ramp challenge, a task that would allow two teams to solve a riddle and find an On-Ramp pass somewhere on the grounds of the gardens. Court and Ali found the first of these and told Catherine and Craig, securing both of their returns.

This meant that Dennis and Durrell were unable to rejoin the others on the course.
8. Which team used the Express Pass to bypass the Detour in Leg 6 (specifically the 'Animate' task)?

Answer: Jesse and Marika

Once the racing roster was upped to eight teams once again, they were given their next clue, a Detour, and continued on their journey across Canada. To begin, they had to choose between two tasks: 'Aviate' or 'Animate'. In 'Aviate', teams drove to the Fanshawe College's Norton Wolf School of Aviation and Aerospace Technology where both team members needed to properly install and assemble a Cessna 150 propellor while in 'Animate', teams drove to Fanshawe's School of Digital and Performing Arts where, putting on a motion capture suit, they needed to work together to recreate the exact movements of an animated movie (with one team member acting as the director and the other creating the piece with their teammate's calls).
9. In London, Ontario, team members completing the Road Block had to work with animals to complete which of these?

Answer: An agility course

Completing their Detour tasks, teams were immediately handed a Road Block asking 'who wants a new best friend?' For this challenge, teams drove to the Middlesex Agility Club whereupon they were able to pair up with a trained dog and guide them through an agility course, memorizing the route properly and navigating them to the finish line in under forty-five seconds. Brendan, Tychon, Veronica, Franca, Craig, Marika, Jahmeek, and Court attempted this challenge.
10. Which team was eliminated in London, Ontario at the end of Leg 6?

Answer: Court and Ali

Following their Road Block task, teams found their way to the Western Interdisciplinary Research Building on Western University's campus where, wearing a Muse meditation headband and using an app, they would need to reach a calming state to rack up thirty bid chirps. If they could follow the app's spiritual guidance, it would result in one final clue sending them to the race's sixth Pit Stop at Western Alumni Stadium. Franca and Nella found their zen in the final task and stepped on the mat first, winning themselves a trip for two to Honolulu, Hawaii (and a $1,500 gift card from Marshall's).

It would be their second win of the race. Unable to keep up with the other teams, Court and Ali were the last to check in on the mat, but all teams continued racing straight into Leg 7 and they were spared from elimination this time.
