Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The starting line for this race was in what Canadian mountain range?

Answer: Laurentian

This iteration of the race started with a total of ten teams only a hundred and thirty kilometres north of Montreal. There, at Place St-Bernard at Mont Tremblant Resort, the pairs embarked upon a race across the nation for the $250,000 cash prize (and all the other prizes along the way) when, on Jon Montgomery's go, they were instructed to reach their first clue envelope waiting on their backpacks. Using a code, teams had to search on foot for five marked plaques in the village telling the history of Mont Tremblant and decipher (and unscramble) their next destination-- Old Montreal-- which they could use to get their next clue. If they got it right they could sign up for a charter bus at the village dock and take the ride to Montreal.
2. At the top of La Grande Roue de Montréal, team members completing the Road Block collected a clue and pieces of what?

Answer: A hammer

Arriving in Montreal on one of two charter buses, teams were told to race on foot through the city streets to find one of two people carrying walking billboards promoting the then-upcoming movie "Thor: Love and Thunder". If found, they could receive a piece of the Mjolnir, Thor's hammer, and get their Road Block clue.

For the Road Block, teams headed down to the waterfront to find La Grande Roue de Montréal and one team member was required to climb two hundred feet to the top of the attraction. Connor, Beverley, Jahmeek, Ali, Craig, Nella, Jully, Jesse, Durrell, and Tychon completed this challenge.
3. Which team completed the 'Jazz' Detour task in Leg 1?

Answer: Jully and Kathy

Completing the race's first Road Block, teams were immediately thrust into a Detour challenge. The first option placed in front of them was 'Jazz', which required that teams head to Upstairs Jazz to meet with and train under Canadian musician Ranee Lee. Once teams mastered her improvised scat routine they could collect their next clue and more pieces of the Mjolnir to bring along with them. Only Jully and Kathy and Franca and Nella completed this challenge.

Interestingly, both Jully and Ranee have, historically, been regarded as some of Canada's most talented black artists in their respective musical genres.
4. The 'Pizzazz' Detour option in Leg 1 involved teams learning what type of dance routine?

Answer: Burlesque

In 'Pizzazz', teams took a drive to The Wiggle Room in Montreal, joining the burlesque dancers there to participate in a choreographed routine. When they were ready to perform for the crowd, they needed to hit their moves as well as remove their provided clothing in the correct order. If they did the striptease right, local burlesque dancer Frenchy Jones would give them their next clue. All teams save for Jully and Kathy and Franca and Nella participated in this task, collecting more Mjolnir pieces upon completion.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 1?

Answer: Jully and Kathy

Finishing up with their Detours, teams proceeded to the historic Rialto Theatre in the heart of Montreal where they had to assemble Thor's Mjolnir before checking in with Jon at their first Pit Stop on the main stage. Leading the pack upon arriving in Montreal, the leg was won by brothers Brendan and Connor who, for their victory, won several prizes including a $2,500 CAD gift card to Marshall's, a trip for two to Los Angeles for the premiere of "Thor: Love and Thunder", and THREE Express Passes (one for themselves and two to give to other teams in the next three legs).

This leg of the race was ultimately lost by Jully and Kathy who, struggling with directions, struggled to catch up. They were eliminated from the race.
6. The second leg of the race, teams flew to to Alberta, completing most of their tasks in what city?

Answer: Lethbridge

Kicking off Leg 2, teams were told to drive to the airport in Montreal and fly across the country to the city of Calgary, Alberta and, from there, they could search the airport parking lot for one of nine 2022 Chevrolet Blazer RS vehicles they would use for this leg of the race. Ripping this clue open, teams were sent onward to the city of Lethbridge, two hundred kilometres southeast, and they would find their next route marker at the rattlesnake statue in Indian Battle Park.
7. Owls and goats were featured in different sides of the Detour in Leg 2. All teams completed the same task.

Answer: False

After enjoying a traditional Siksika dance in Indian Battle Park, teams received a golden eagle feather for good luck and they were handed a Detour clue. For this, teams could pursue 'Hoot' or 'Herd'. In 'Herd', teams visited Fort Whoop-Up in the south of the park where, hopping into a goat herd, they needed to find the goats matching their coloured bananas, read the numbers on them, and add them up from memory (correctly) to get their next clue.

In 'Hoot', teams visited the Helen Schuler Nature Centre where one team member memorized seven different owl sounds.

At the same time, their partner would learn the descriptions of those owl sounds. If they could work together and match them, they could collect their next clue. Two teams finished 'Hoot'; seven completed 'Herd'.
8. The second leg of the race sent teams to what restaurant for a sponsored task?

Answer: Subway

Leaving Indian Battle Park, teams were told to head into Lethbridge proper to find a Subway restaurant for a sponsored task. There, teams needed to memorize a shopping list of four fresh vegetables stocked by their Subway location and, hopping back into their vehicles, pick them up from three different markets in and around the city. If they collected enough, the manager of the restaurant would hand over their next clue.
9. The Road Block encountered in Leg 2 asked teams to play what virtual reality video game?

Answer: Rhythmatic

After becoming psuedo-sandwich artists, teams needed to drive themselves to Ctrl V Virtual Reality Arcade and selected a team member who was 'up for a slice'. For this task, the chosen racer had to master the game "Rhythmatic" in which they used a virtual reality headset and controllers to swipe at targets to a specific beat. If they could achieve a score of 90% or higher, they would get their next clue. Franca, Marika, Beverley, Brendan, Cedric, Catherine, Durrell, Cassie, and Court completed this challenge.
10. Which team was last to hit the Pit Stop mat at the end of Leg 2 in Waterton Lakes National Park?

Answer: Court and Ali

When teams left the Road Block, the only matter of business remaining was to make it to the second Pit Stop of the race, driving themselves one hundred twenty-five kilometres to Waterton Lakes National Park to find the historic Prince of Wales Hotel and the mat. Overlooking one of the glacial lakes there, Franca and Nella claimed the win, earning themselves a $5,000 gift card from Marshall's, a $5,000 gift card from Subway, and a trip for two to Lima, Peru. Though the final three teams hit the mat within the same few minutes, it was Court and Ali who placed last.

They were, however, spared by a keep-on-racing Pit Stop and no one was eliminated.
