Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the start of Leg 9, teams flew from Ottawa to what New Brunswick city?

Answer: Bathurst

Leaving the picturesque Quebec village of Montebello at the start of Leg 9, teams opened their clues to discover that they would be making their way from nearby Ottawa to the edge of the Acadian Peninsula, flying themselves eight hundred kilometres eastward to the small city of Bathurst in Northeastern New Brunswick. Upon arriving there, they had to drive their marked 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2s to Frostbite's Dairy Bar in Bathurst and collect not only their next clue, but an ice cream and some supplies they would be using in this leg of the race.
2. The Road Block encountered by teams in New Brunswick in Leg 9 involved which of the following cultural activities?

Answer: Dancing

Before heading out from Frostbite's, provided teams could load all of their supplies into their trucks, they could rip open the clue containing their Road Block for this leg of the race. For this challenge, teams needed to drive themselves to the seaside town of Caraquet, the unofficial capital of Acadia, to find La Brôkerie.

There, with a band playing live highland music, the selected team members (Connor, Jesse, Catherine, Court, Franca, and Beverley) had to learn a traditional stepdance and perform it to the approval of their instructor.
3. Completing a Speed Bump task in Leg 9, Brendan and Connor had to make which of these in an Acadian village?

Answer: Roof shingles

If teams could get their steps in, they could receive a clue sending them to the Village Historique Acadien in Bertrand, New Brunswick. Upon arriving, teams could change into 17th-century Acadian garb (including wooden clogs) and grab a yoke and two buckets. Heading back and forth from a hand-drawn well, they needed to transport their buckets across the village and fill a bucket to get their next clue.

Arriving at this village, Brendan and Connor also encountered their Speed Bump for this leg of the race and it required that they join a shingle maker, using traditional roofing tools to prepare and stack wood for fifty shingles.
4. Which team was the only one to complete the 'Clean & Tuck' Detour option in Leg 9?

Answer: Jesse and Marika

Wrapping up a physically-demanding labour task in the Acadian village, teams ripped open their Detour clues and had to make a choice between 'Oyster Shuck' and 'Clean & Tuck', both taking them to the Maritime resort of Cielo in Haut-Shippagan. For 'Oyster Shuck', teams needed to prepare seafood platters by first shucking two dozen oysters without damaging the contents, then replicating all the garnishes and presentation to the satisfaction of a local chef. In 'Clean & Tuck', however, teams had to replicate a glamping setup outside, recreating one of the property's beachfront glamping domes by filling it with its proper contents, all in their proper spots.

While Jesse and Marika completed 'Clean & Tuck', all other teams completed 'Oyster Shuck'.
5. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in Leg 9, finding themselves eliminated in New Brunswick?

Answer: Court and Ali

As soon as teams wrapped up their Detour tasks, they could drive along the coast to find Pokeshaw Rock and their ninth Pit Stop of the race with Jon waiting at the mat on the beach overlooking the landmark. This leg of the race was won by Catherine and Craig, who led the course coming out of the Road Block. It was their second victory of the race, and this time they took a trip to Mexico City, $2,500 CAD-worth of Expedia Points, and a $2,500 gift card from Marshall's as their prizes.

Though the race to keep out of last was close-fought throughout the entire leg, Brendan and Connor managed to get ahead of Court and Ali by taking a different route to the Pit Stop. It meant Court and Ali were eliminated from the race in sixth place.
6. Teams returned to Ontario in Leg 10, heading to Bowmanville, Ontario for their Road Block. There, they needed to do which of these?

Answer: Drive a car

Leaving Acadia in New Brunswick, teams headed into their penultimate leg of the race with the instruction to fly back to Toronto (via Montreal) and make their way eastward to Bowmanville, one hundred kilometres east of the city. When teams arrived at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, they could complete their Road Block for this leg of the race sending one team member on a three kilometre precision driving course. Hopping behind the wheel of an all-new 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, team members had to finish the driver development track in two and a half minutes. Marika, Brendan, Franca, Craig, and Veronica were required to do this Road Block to ensure an even distribution of completed challenges going into the final leg of the race.
7. In Leg 10, teams flew from Oshawa, Ontario to Tobermory, a town on which body of water?

Answer: Lake Huron

When teams finished their Road Block, teams received a phone and a clue telling them to navigate themselves (via the OnStar Guardian mobile app) to Oshawa Executive Airport. From there, they could sign up for one of three planes flying them to Tobermory, Ontario on the Bruce Peninsula, each leaving ten minutes apart.

Upon arriving in Tobermory, teams visited the Divers Den diving shop in town and had to embark on a task out in the town's harbour. One team member dove into the waters of Georgian Bay and, using buoys to guide the way, located a number of Tobermory's shipwrecks-- The Tugs. Once they located numbers associated with their team's chosen colour, they had to relay those back to their teammate, unlock a treasure chest, and get the keys to a Chevrolet Equinox RS...and their next clue.
8. In the Face Off in Leg 10, teams visited Wiarton to play which of these games?

Answer: Snooker

Completing their diving challenge, teams needed to drive themselves along the Bruce Peninsula and head seventy-five kilometres south to the town of Wiarton. There, they could locate Lloyd's Smoke Shop & Pool Hall and complete their second Face Off of the race where in teams battled it out, head-to-head, in an "Amazing Race" game of snooker.

The team who scored more points than the other would be able to get their next clue and keep racing while the last team remaining, Jesse and Marika, would need to wait out a fifteen minute timer before proceeding.
9. In Meaford (in Leg 10), teams had to join which of these Canadian institutions to complete an obstacle course?

Answer: The Canadian Armed Forces

Teams leaving the Face Off had one more challenge to embark on, and this one sent them driving sixty kilometres to CFB Meaford, Home of the 4th Canadian Division of the Canadian Armed Forces. There, teams needed to don tactical gear and run through a physically-demanding obstacle course.

At the same time, instructors would list off the seven core values of the Canadian Armed Forces, which teams would need to recite at the end of their trip through the gauntlet. If they could get all seven, they would get their next clue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 10, checking in at the Georgian Bluffs in last place?

Answer: Beverley and Veronica

Completing the Armed Forces training course, teams needed to drive themselves to the final Pit Stop of the season, the deciding point that would determine who would race in the last leg, and to get there they needed to find The Inn at Cobble Beach overlooking the Georgian Bluffs on Lake Huron. There, they could find the mat at the lighthouse on the resort's golf course, hole 17.

Brendan and Connor, who led this leg from start to finish, checked into the mat in first place and won a trip for two to Auckland, New Zealand (along with a $3,500 gift card to Marshall's). Though Beverley and Veronica left the Face Off in third place, the obstacle course challenge kept them back far enough that they were last to check in at the Pit Stop. They were the only team eliminated in this leg leaving four going into the finale.
11. Teams flew back to which previously-seen province to complete their final leg of the race?

Answer: British Columbia

Leaving the Bruce Peninsula at the start of their final leg, the last four teams had to fly from Pearson International Airport in Toronto to Vancouver on Canada's west coast, forty-three hundred kilometres away. It was an early start to a long day and the racers touched down only to hop into cabs and make their way to the edge of the seawall at Cardero Park.

There, they could find their first Road Block clue by the water's edge.
12. Team members completing the first Road Block of Leg 11 had to jump from which of these to get a clue?

Answer: Helicopter

Opening their clues at Cardero Park, teams opened a Road Block clue that asked which team member 'should just drop it'. For this task, Catherine, Jesse, Nella, and Connor needed to get into a wetsuit and take a ride in a Dauphin AS365 Eurocopter, taking the chopper over Stanley Park to Caulfeild Cove and performing a hover exit, a twenty foot drop into the waters below. Once they swam over to a buoy one hundred feet away, they could grab their next clue and return to their partner on the shore.
13. The race's final Road Block had team members completing an obstacle course wearing which of these?

Answer: Roller skates

Once the helicopter drop task was completed, team members reunited only to open another Road Block clue, and this one forced the team member who sat the other task out just to 'roll with it'. For this challenge, Franca, Brendan, Craig, and Marika proceeded to the Wallace Shipyards in North Vancouver where they strapped into a pair of roller skates and completed an obstacle course in seventy-five seconds or less.

When this challenge was complete, teams could proceed to the Old Auditorium at the University of British Columbia, pick an instructor, and learn the lyrics to "Libiamo ne' lieti calici". If they could perform this song from "La traviata" properly, the instructor would hand over their next clue.
14. The race's final task was a memory challenge, held in a library, involving which of these?

Answer: Tasks completed on the race

Teams finishing the opera task proceeded to the Richmond Night Market as night fell in Vancouver, joining in the throngs to search the vendors for the City of Life sign. There, they could receive a menu and hunt the stalls for ten specific meals that they would need to collect and bring back to the meals' recipients. It would lead teams to their penultimate clue and directions to the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch.

At the library, teams found their last challenge and it would test their knowledge of everything they'd encountered on the race course. Inside, teams were given nine destinations from previous legs of the race and twenty-seven riddles, all pertaining to tasks they collectively faced along the race course. If they could properly match all of them with memory, in the correct order, and with a bit of lateral thinking, they would get their last clue.
15. Which team won "The Amazing Race Canada 8"?

Answer: Catherine and Craig

Teams finished their memory challenge and that was it-- all they needed to do was make their way to the Finish Line waiting for them on the field in the middle of BC Place. Teams ran there on foot and headed into BC Place's center field to verify their placement and it was Catherine and Craig who stepped through Gate A and took the win.

The duo won the $250,000 CAD prize, the trip for two from GURU Organic Energy, and two Chevrolet Silverado ZR2s. They were followed by Jesse and Marika in second place, Franca and Nella in third, and Brendan and Connor in fourth.
