Joanie and Susan were making a salad when the garbage disposal wouldn't turn off. They started throwing in the rest of the salad to try and get it to stop. Luckily, David walked into the house and he was able to get the disposal working again by banging on the counter top.

In the opening scene (before the opening credits), Nicholas found the statue in the basement and remarked that it should stay downstairs because 'eight is enough.' Just as Vivian came to the house, Tom snuck it upstairs and ended up putting it on a side table in the living room. (I, personally, think it would have looked better in the screened-in room, but no one asked me...)

When Tom and Abby were getting ready for Vivian's arrival, Abby mentioned that Vivian had a gift of getting the teenagers to all get to work. In a future episode, Abby would 'volunteer' the kids to help her clean the entire house.

Nancy was looking through a college catalog. She and Vivian complained about not being able to understand it. Nancy wanted to take interior design courses, but complained she'd also need English and math classes before she'd be able to take the classes she wanted to.

Vivian decided that Nancy should come on her next cruise as she believed the best way to learn wasn't in school, but it was by going out into the world.

Nicholas came running up to Tom and Abby. Nicholas was warned about wandering off, but Nicholas claimed he hadn't wandered off - he'd simply gotten lost inside the house.

Vivian wanted Abby to not have to live with the past (of Tom's late wife). In addition, she heard Tom and Abby mention wanting to add another room onto the house, so she thought buying the couple a larger house would be the perfect wedding present for them.

Tom and Abby mentioned that a larger house would keep Nicholas and Tommy from fighting about who would clean their room. Tom also mentioned that every time he took a shower in the house, the water would get ice cold before his shower was through.

Also, the furnace wasn't working reliably in the house. (And Tom mentions they're going to get it replaced int he last scene of the episode.)

Morgan and Nancy met while at the 'new' house - Nancy was in her bathing suit as she had been sunning herself by the pool. Morgan had come over to the house to convince Tom that it was a good deal. He also brought lunch for the family.

One evening, Morgan was at the house to show Tom that, on paper, the deal was a good one. Nancy was trying to learn French for her 8 week cruise by listening to an audio recording. Morgan heard her trying to learn and mentioned he'd lived in France for a year. He offered to help Nancy with her French while hosting the open house.

Vivian told Tom and Abby about her plan to take Nancy with her on her next cruise. Tom and Abby weren't sure it was a good idea, but Vivian explained that it would be educational for her and Vivian would not let Nancy out of her sight.

When Tom first began to object to the plan, Vivian grabbed the basket of rolls he'd just asked to be passed to him. After she'd convinced him, Tom reminded her that she'd been able to convince him to ride his bike over a railroad trestle... (Implying that she'd been able to convince him to let her take Nancy on her next cruise.) Vivian then handed Tom the basket of rolls.

The Circuit Breakers was a local rock group that made it big on their first album release. They apparently were designed by a computer program, which also said the Circuit Breakers needed to live in an 'average' house to be able to reach their maximum potential.

The one female of the group wore a dog collar (with leash attached, of course). She apparently drove the van the group arrived in. (The van looked a bit like the van on the TV series "Scooby Doo.")
