Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As we start the episode Bart and Lisa are busy in the kitchen making breakfast and bragging about presents they've bought for Marge's birthday. What ends up being the main component of Marge's birthday breakfast?

Answer: Pancakes

Bart and Lisa are cooking breakfast for their mother's birthday, however the kids aren't exactly skilled culinary technicians and breakfast ends up being a stack of 42 pancakes. Their limited output is still significantly more than their father has done...
2. It becomes clear quickly that Homer has forgotten Marge's birthday. First he thinks it's HIS birthday, then he is forced to make a mad dash to get Marge a last minute present. Where does Homer head to get a present?

Answer: Springfield Mall

Homer feigns that he is going for a "walk around the block" but the car engine and squealing tyres give that story away. Homer sprints around the mall looking for the perfect present but dismisses every shop he runs past for one little reason or another. Eventually Homer settles on a gift, although it may not be what Marge was expecting...
3. Come the evening and Marge is with her family, now including her sisters Patty and Selma. What is the name of the restaurant that Marge's birthday party is being held at?

Answer: The Singing Surloin

All three of the incorrect answers are restaurants from "The Simpsons", although my personal favourite is "Griddler On The Roof". Marge's birthday party is not the only celebration taking place; there's also a wedding anniversary, a man proposing to his heavily pregnant girlfriend, and a funeral group.
4. It's time for Marge to open her presents. First up is a bottle of perfume from Bart, then an dry macaroni art piece from Lisa. The waiters bring out the birthday cake whilst Homer gives Marge her present - a bowling ball. The gift box breaks before it gets to Marge; where does the bowling ball land?

Answer: Birthday cake

Homer has gone all out on the present, although all the effort seems to have been for his own benefit. Marge has never been bowling before, and the ball itself even has Homer's name engraved on it. When the ball falls on to the cake it completes Marge's horrible evening, and her angry sigh blows out the last remaining candle.
5. Marge decides to take advantage of her present and decides to take up bowling, much to Homer's chagrin. A rookie to the sport, Marge doesn't even know about needing a lane and wearing different shoes. Marge eventually begins bowling, but what happens on her first three attempts?

Answer: She knocks down one pin

Marge's bowling technique isn't very refined, she just throws the ball and it bounces down the lane always taking out the 7 pin. The first time it's in her lane, but the second time the ball bounces into her neighbour's lane and knocks down the same pin.
6. Marge ends up attracting the attention of a bowling instructor named Jacques. Jacques initially calls Marge by what name when they first meet?

Answer: Homer

Jacques sees the name engraved on Marge's ball and calls her "Homer". Thinking the same thing Marge addresses Jacques as "Brunswick", although that is actually the brand name of his bowling ball. Jacques is portrayed by the terrific Albert Brooks who would go on to voice several other one-episode characters on "The Simpsons" and even had a major role in "The Simpsons Movie" as the main villain Russ Cargill.
7. Jacques begins teaching Marge how to bowl and her improvement is immediately noticeable. At Marge's second lesson Jacques gives Marge a present with her name on it. What is the present?

Answer: Bowling glove

Jacques purchases Marge a bowling glove with her name stitched on it, partly to help her bowling but mainly to continue his romantic pursuit of her. Jacques does also buy Marge some onion rings, but I'm pretty sure they didn't have her name on them.
8. Jacques invites Marge out for brunch ("It's not quite breakfast, it's not quite lunch, but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end. You don't get completely what you would at breakfast, but you get a good meal!"). Jacques uses the opportunity to invite Marge to his apartment at which point Marge faints. Whilst unconscious Marge dreams about what Jacques' apartment might be like, luxurious with a rack full of trophies. What does the Jacques say the trophies are for in the dream?

Answer: Love making

Marge has a surprisingly long dream (she must have been unconscious for quite a while). She sees Jacques' apartment as a luxurious palace and they waltz around a large room to admire his trophy collection for love making. Marge finally wakes and agrees to meet Jacques at his apartment on Thursday.
9. Whilst Marge is out bowling and brunching Homer is left at home looking after the kids. He seems to be coping with the responsibility surprisingly well, but when Homer finds Marge's present he realises that his wife may be seeing someone else. Homer becomes quite depressed but still goes outside to play catch with Bart. Do we see Homer catch the ball?

Answer: No

Bart goes for a big wind up and throws a baseball at Homer, but the depressed Homer doesn't even see it coming and gets smacked on the head by it as a result. Bart runs up to his fallen father. "Dad, you didn't even say 'Ouch!'" Homer replies, "Oh... Sorry... Ouch."
10. Marge is left with a choice: either go to Jacques' apartment or go to visit Homer at the Nuclear Plant. Conveniently Marge drives her car to a fork in the road; one way leads to Jacques' apartment, the other to the Power Plant. Who does Marge choose?

Answer: Homer

"The Simpsons" probably wouldn't have reached over 500 episodes if Marge hadn't chosen Homer here. Marge drives to the Power Plant and in a scene reminiscent of the final moments of the film "An Officer And A Gentleman" Homer carries Marge out of the Power Plant in his arms. "I'm going to the back seat of my car, with the woman I love, and I won't be back for ten minutes!" Thanks for playing!
