Gordon and Aarón welcomed the kids into the MasterChef Kitchen at the start of the competition and introduced their new co-judge, TV personality Daphne Oz, who would be seeing them through sixteen episodes of cooking trials for a prize package of $100,000 USD, a brand new Viking kitchen, a series of Breville appliances, a full kitchen toolset and bakeware from OXO, and a trip to Caesar's Palace to eat at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.

After numerous kids were flown to Los Angeles for in-person auditions, the field was narrowed down to sixteen youngsters between the ages of 8 and 12 who would make it to the MasterChef Kitchen for a chance at the prize. This season, filmed in 2019, was held for airing until after the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that all competitors were two to three years older before they were seen on TV. Unlike other seasons of the show, eliminations generally saw one competitor going home per episode (past seasons saw two per episode).

In episode 2, the first Team Challenge came to pass in which the children had to make perfect pizzas (and as such the team colours were the colours of the Italian flag). The two teams that made the most perfect pies moved up to the balcony while the losing team (the white team) had to go into an Elimination Test, replicating a Gordon Ramsay Michelin Star dish based on a 5-minute blindfolded taste test.

It resulted in Tegan going home in fifteenth place.

Heading out of the MasterChef Kitchen for their third round of competition, the children visited a renaissance fair to make large meals for fifty-one patrons. In addition to needing to cook a scotch egg as a starter, teams also had to make a full entree including meat-on-the-bone as a star, regardless of protein option selected. Eva's blue team took the loss in this round though Jillian, one of her team members, was sent home.

Answer: Flambé

Episode six had the eleven remaining junior home chefs cracking open a series of Mystery Box to find they were cooking with a star ingredient: California walnuts. What the challenge led to was immunity for Ciara (for her walnut cake with Sauternes pears) while the remaining ten contestants got to cook alongside "MasterChef Junior" season 7 winner Che Spiotta. For this Elimination Challenge, the kids had to make a dish using flambéing as a technique.

It was Andrew who was sent home this time, leaving ten.

Answer: Jalapeno poppers

The kids entered the MasterChef Kitchen in this episode to find a fire juggler waiting for them, and the judges let them know they'd need to push into their spicy side by working as teams to make jalapeno poppers.

After a demonstration from Aarón, the Yellow Team of Ivy, Greyson, and Abir won the fifteen minute challenge with nineteen poppers (to the Green Team's fifteen and the Red Team's three).The Green and Red teams, subsequently, had to learn how to open a crab and make a dish to wow the judges to avoid going home. It was Ciara who was eliminated this time as she made crumbly crab cakes but refused to taste her own dish.

Answer: Bake sale

In the ninth episode of the competition had the top eight divide into two teams led by the show's youngest home cooks, Cruz and Ivy. What resulted was a boys vs. girls challenge where, in seventy-five minutes, they had to make cream puffs, cookies, cupcakes, and dessert bars for visiting kids.

The winners were ultimately decided by the judges, not the diners, and they elected the girls of the Red Team the victors, sending home Abir from the Blue Team for struggling with his linzer cookies.

Answer: Nomad

The Top 6 kids dressed in their best formal outfits and headed to Nomad, an upscale Los Angeles restaurant, for their restaurant takeover. The judges chose the teams in advance of the challenge and informed the kids that the eldest competitors-- Eva and Greyson-- would be the team captains. With two complex seafood appetizers and two equally-difficult entrees to prepare for a full dining room, the kids all felt the heat, even needing Aarón to step in to assist on occasion.

When the dust settled, the judges sent A'dan home for caving under pressure and lack of cooperation across Team Challenges.

While the Tag Team Challenge season to season generally involves the home cooks needing to work alongside each other to accomplish a full meal or spread, this season's Tag Team Challenge saw WWE superstars in the kitchen working alongside each of the four remaining contestants in the third-to-last week of competition. Ember Moon, The Miz, Dolph, and Natalya were paired with the top four to make a platter of finger foods: lobster rolls, curried chicken puffs, buffalo chicken lollipops, lamb meatballs, and roasted beef popovers.

The challenge was a bit of a wash; the cooks had to compete in an Elimination Test as well, replicating Gordon's truffle egg yolk ravioli alongside him to stay int he competition.

Answer: Liya

After a semi-final session in front of a live audience, the finale led Liya and Greyson to need to create an entree and a dessert for the judges, providing each dish after sixty minutes of cooking. What resulted was a victory for 10-year-old cook Liya Chu, whose spiced duck breast with scallion pancakes and miso eggplant provided a solid entree to represent her aesthetic and coconut pandan panna cotta with passionfruit coulis and sesame tuile showed clear finesse.

She won the $100,000 USD grand prize, the title, and all the sponsor prizes to boot.
