Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many contestants started this competition in the MasterChef Kitchen?

Answer: Twenty-four

At the start of this season, twenty-four kids between the ages of 8 and 13 entered the MasterChef Kitchen and claimed their white aprons from inside a giant pinata head of Gordon Ramsey. All two dozen kids joined in on the first Mystery Box Challenge too, opening it up to find a single bun to fill with the burger of their creation.

It resulted in a proceeding Elimination Test in which the remaining kids needed to make any dish with marshmallows as the hero ingredient. Alexander and Kade, both of whom burnt their marshmallows, were sent home.
2. The first Individual Challenge of the season saw three home cooks topping which of these?

Answer: Cupcakes

Jessie, Sam, and Addison, all of whom had the best marshmallow dish in the end of the previous day in the MasterChef Kitchen, were asked to go head-to-head-to-head with sixty untopped cupcakes, six bowls of icing, and six pipes. They had ten minutes to top as many perfect cupcakes as they could with Logan, the winner of "MasterChef Junior" season 2, judging their efforts.

The win went to Sam, who topped twenty-nine cupcakes and had immunity going into a scallop-themed Elimination Test.
3. This season saw the introduction of the Relay Challenge. What did the chefs need to make in the fourth episode for this?

Answer: Seven-layer dip

With eighteen kids left in the MasterChef Kitchen, the contestants were pushed to work in one of three pre-determined teams to work, one after the other, to make the best seven-layer dip for the judges. Although Ian, Avery, and Kaya were team captains, each child was responsible for one or two layers of the dish consisting of beans, corn, salsa, lettuce, guacamole, sour cream/chives, and cheese.

The challenge ultimately sent one team to safety while the rest had to cook with smelly ingredients to avoid elimination.
4. One of this season's Pressure Tests involved which difficult, technical dessert?

Answer: Croquembouche

Episode 5 saw the chefs heading out for their first field trip, attending a birthday party at which they had to serve other kids their age. When this team challenge was said and done, it sent the losing red team into a baking Pressure Test during which the participants had to construct a croquembouche from scratch.

After a number of children struggled with their pastries and caramel, Derek and Nate were eliminated for their lower quality showings. This was the first Pressure Test of the season.
5. The Top 14 needed to split into teams to make a raspberry mint lemonade to be blind-tasted by which judge?

Answer: Christina Tosi

Leading into their sixth session in the MasterChef Kitchen, the Top 14 child chefs were split, once again, into two teams, this time to make the first drink of "MasterChef". For this, the teams of seven needed to work together to make a dispenser of raspberry mint lemonade, adequately working to create the best blend of ingredients to be judged in a blind tasting by Christina Tosi.

Although the Red Team won (and got immunity), both teams were soaked by giant lemonade-filled water balloons to close out the challenge.

The losing team had to fight to survive with surf and turf dishes.
6. Only four contestants were allowed to cook in the devilled eggs challenge in Episode 8. Who was not among them?

Answer: Addison

In Episode 8, the Top 10 contestants were told to take eggs, at random, from a basket to determine if they would jump onto the two-person Red Team or Blue Team for a challenge. This put Kya and Amaya together and Zac and Kamilly together for a test in which they had to make as many perfect devilled eggs as possible. Zac and Kamilly won this, beating out the other team and the surprise Yellow Team (consisting of Graham and Gordon) to secure immunity from the next Elimination Test (during which Kaitlyn and Corey were sent home).
7. This season's Tag Team Challenge involved which of the following?

Answer: Street food

After Zac won a mystery box curated by Christina Tosi's mother (including cereals, chicken, Worcestershire sauce, chocolate, and both kidney and lima beans), he got to choose the pairs for the following Tag Team Challenge in which all contestants had to take turns over an hour to make a street food platter with different international items including potato and pea samosas, mozzarella arancini, shrimp spring rolls, beef bao buns, and lamb kofta with tzatziki. Kamilly and Sam, both on the same team, went home in this one (being beaten, barely, by Zac and Kya).
8. Did this season feature a restaurant takeover challenge?

Answer: No

While the Top 6 would normally feature the kitchen takeover of a fancy Los Angeles restaurant, this season saw a bit of a change as the judges brought the contestants to Gordon's house to serve twenty famous chefs Michelin star dishes (specifically a pan-seared snapper and a venison loin).

As with other seasons of "MasterChef Junior", the 'takeover' episode featured no Pressure Test; the judges based their elimination on the standings of the challenge, saving one cook (Addison) and sending the other two from the losing team home (JJ and Kya).
9. Everyone received different ingredients in the season's final Mystery Box, but all of them were used to make which technical dish?

Answer: Soufflé

The penultimate episode featured the last Mystery Box and Elimination Test of the season, and the Top 4 led into this by receiving one ingredient each, at random, to be made into a sweet or savoury soufflé (the ingredients were dark chocolate and milk chocolate, strawberries, and blackberries). Addison won this challenge and got to choose the pork product that she and her competitors would be cooking.

It propelled herself and Avery in to the finals while sending Zac home for a poor pig's ear dish and Amaya home for her pork loin.
10. Which contestant won "MasterChef Junior" Season 4?

Answer: Addison

For their final round, Addison and Avery both went head-to-head in the first all-female "MasterChef Junior" finale. Both girls needed to make a cohesive three course meal (appetizer, entree, and dessert) for the judges to taste and critique, and they had to do so with ten minutes of pantry time and ninety minutes of cook time. Addison was crowned the winner of the trophy, the title, and the $100,000 grand prize for her Asian-inspired menu, narrowly edging out Avery's Southern dishes to claim the victory. Addison became the first female winner of "MasterChef Junior" at the age of 9.
