Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This season marked the return of which former regular judge?

Answer: Joe Bastianich

This sixth season of "MasterChef Junior" once more saw the arrival of children aged 8 through 13 vying for the title of best junior amateur home cook. As the kids were led to the kitchen they were informed that alongside Gordon and Christina as regular judges, they would be joined by former regular judge Joe Bastianich, who returned to the show after a three year absence.

He previously appeared in the third "MasterChef Junior" season (and the fifth general season). He replaced Aarón Sanchez, who would return for the ninth adult season. Joe would take Christina's spot for that one as a permanent replacement.
2. Although twenty-four cooks were given white aprons, how many arrived at the MasterChef Kitchen at the start of the competition?

Answer: Forty

In the first episodes of this season, forty junior home cooks were brought to the MasterChef Kitchen-- twenty boys and twenty girls-- in order to audition for their chance at a white apron. This time around, there were twenty-four white aprons to give, being rewarded to the top dozen boys and the top dozen girls.

They started with the girls, who were asked to make a perfect medium rare filet mignon for their aprons before those who didn't make the grade produced their signature dish. The boys did the same soon after, making a chicken breast dish instead of the filet.
3. The first Team Challenge of the season featured teams of three making milkshakes. Who, in the end, was dunked into a giant milkshake?

Answer: A random judge

Episode 4 started with the children drawing coloured straws to divide some of the home cooks into teams. Three teams of three kids were, thus, put into coloured aprons and pit against each other to make perfect milkshakes with the two leading teams being safe from elimination.

This meant that Gracie, Evan, and Pierce (with nine) and Anthony, Olivia, and Henry (with seven) didn't need to make a chicken and waffles dish in the proceeding challenge. At the end of the challenge, the three judges drew straws; Joe, drawing the short straw, had to dunk himself into a giant milkshake to close out the round.
4. Some home cooks had to join in a donut-decorating challenge in episode 7, but they were saddled with which additional obstacle?

Answer: Completing the challenge bound together

The top sixteen junior home cooks drew donuts from a box in episode 7 and were told that they would be split into teams based on coloured icing on their selections-- a green team, a yellow team, and a pink team (of two kids each) were left to battle it out to perfectly-dress as many donuts from a pile of one hundred as they could in ten minutes. Emily and Olivia finished twenty-nine and Beni and Quani finished twenty-eight, allowing them to sit on the balcony through a tough Elimination Challenge involving Matilda Ramsay's burger and fries dish.

After the donut challenge, all three judges were dunked in donut toppings as a gag.
5. The cooks left the MasterChef Kitchen to complete a challenge at the Hilton Los Angeles. What did they serve there?

Answer: Breakfast

For winning the Matilda Ramsay challenge, Evan and Mikey were chosen to be team captains as the Top 14 were taken to the Hilton Los Angeles to cook breakfast (five different dishes) for numerous room guests. The room occupants would be able to vote on which dishes were better. Ultimately, Evan led his team to victory, sending Mikey's red team into a Pressure Test to make Joe Bastianich's MasterChef-quality risotto.

The challenge got both Emily and Pierce sent home, leaving twelve in the competition.
6. This season's Tag Team Challenge focused on dishes from what part of the world?

Answer: Asia

After winning a Blue Apron-sponsored Mystery Box Challenge, Sammy was granted the opportunity to choose pairs who would have to work together in this season's Tag Team Challenge, forcing duos to take turns working on an Asian street food platter, flipping every ten minutes for an hour.

This season's platter included braised duck bao, shrimp potstickers and dipping sauce, pork siu mai, vegetable spring rolls, and satay. Although there were two bottom duos, the judges elected to save all of them this episode, creating a second Top 12 episode.
7. Three people were eliminated in one challenge this season during a challenge that required they make which highly-technical dish?

Answer: Egg yolk ravioli

The tenth episode was egg-themed as the Top 12 returned to the kitchen and were met with...eggs. Splitting into teams of four (based on randomly-drawn coloured eggs), the kids had to make the most perfect eggs benedict for a chance to be spared from the next Elimination Challenge. Those participating needed to make the perfect egg yolk ravioli, and while some excelled, many did not.

It led the judges to eliminate three children instead of the regular two-- Ariana, Henry, and Sammy all went home, leaving an uneven nine home cooks.
8. One contestant won a free pass to the semifinal round in the form of what coloured apron?

Answer: Gold

In the season's eleventh episode, the final nine contestants tested their mettle with a Mystery Box Challenge containing dozens of unmarked, unlabelled canned goods which they had to make, with a staple pantry box, into a cohesive dish. It meant Avery had immunity and went up to the balcony, but she could forfeit the opportunity to go through the next round to take a shot at an even bigger advantage-- the Golden Apron-- which would be won by the home cook who made the best dish featuring chocolate.

She decided to hold onto her short-term gain while Mikey took the Golden Apron, sparing him from the events of the next couple of challenges, for his Chocolate Nutella Cheesecake.
9. One of the final tasks of the season involved creating dishes inspired by which family members who'd visited the MasterChef Kitchen to support the remaining home cooks?

Answer: Grandmothers

The semifinal round saw both the arrival of the Top 5 contestants' grandmothers and some wacky prosthetics worn by the judges as the home cooks created meals inspired by their elder family members. The challenge led Quani straight to the finale with his squid ink pasta and spicy puttanesca while the other four semifinalists fought in one last Elimination Test. For this, Quani doled out four different types of fish.

While Remy (on salmon) and Mikey (on striped bass) had the easier fish, it was Beni (with mackerel) and Avery (with sardines) who were pushed into the final cook-off.
10. Which junior home cook was the winner of "MasterChef Junior" season 6?

Answer: Beni

In the final round of the competition, three home cooks went head-to-head-to-head in the MasterChef Kitchen while a crowd watched them prepare an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert for the three judges. Though all three faced trouble with technical aspects of their highly-ambitious dishes, it was Beni's trio of items that edged out the competition and allowed her to take the title of America's next MasterChef Junior.

She won the trophy, the title, and the $100,000 prize over Avery and Quani, who were joint runners-up.
