Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A Ferengi ship and an Enterprise shuttle trek through a spatial anomaly to a distant part of the galaxy, but by the episode's end, the two Ferengi passengers and their ship never make it back to Federation space.

Answer: The Price

This classic episode features the two Ferengi, Kol and Arridor, among those in competition for rights to the Barzan Wormhole, which was initially deemed to be the only stable wormhole known to exist. But when the prized anomaly is suspected of not being as stable as everyone thinks it is, Data and Geordi take a shuttle to investigate, Kol and Arridor boarding their own ship to follow as well as a 'precaution' (the profit-hungry aliens don't want the Enterprise crew foiling their golden opportunity). Data and Geordi eventually confirm that the wormhole is stable only on one end--back in the Alpha Quadrant--and attempt to warn their lobed competitors away.

The Ferengi, of course, don't listen, and when the wormhole closes, Kol and Arridor are shocked to find themselves tens of thousands of light-years outside of Federation space to the far reaches of the Gamma Quadrant.
2. Worf is in the Observation Lounge, instructing officers on his security detail on how to proceed with looking into the background of a Starfleet medical officer suspected of sabotage, much to Picard's disappointment.

Answer: The Drumhead

Perhaps the giveaway clue on this one is 'Starfleet medical officer suspected of sabotage', which is the young crewman named Simon Tarses. Although it was concluded that the dilithium chamber incident was, in fact, an accident, Admiral Satie and her staff still believe that Mr. Tarses had something to do with the files and schematics of the Enterprise being handed over to the Romulans.

In a scene following some rigorous questioning at the trial, we see Worf seated at the head of the table in the Observation Lounge, telling his fellow security officers to look into Tarses' background and report their findings to him. Picard has entered the room by then, and a discussion regarding the ethics of humanity and criminal justice between the captain and the ship's resident Klingon ensues.
3. A blanket of thick fog is seen rising above the floor on the Enterprise's bridge, the result of a weather control system on a nearby planet malfunctioning.

Answer: Sub Rosa

After the Enterprise fires a transfer beam to supply power to the weather control systems of Caldos, various areas of the ship begin experiencing climatic changes. Worf reports to Picard that one of the decks has lost artificial gravity and that Ten Forward is experiencing freezing temperatures, all while a blanket of thick fog is slowly rising above the floor. Riker offers that there is feedback coming back through the transfer beam; in essence, whatever weather conditions Caldos is experiencing are also beginning to happen aboard the ship.
4. Picard hesitates before exiting a room and entering a corridor on board the Enterprise; as soon as he does, Lwaxana Troi appears and insists on joining him en route to the Transporter Room to welcome aboard an alien scientist.

Answer: Half A Life

The opening teaser of this episode begins with Counselor Troi voicing a personal log where she flatly states, "My mother is on board." We then see Picard, who is never thrilled to see the Betazoid motormouth, peeping through a doorway, making sure that the coast is clear.

But the very second he steps into the corridor, his facial expression visibly shows disappointment when he hears the all-too-familiar, all-too-delightful chiming of 'Jean-Luc' from behind. The captain hopes to rid himself of her by diplomatically stating that he's preoccupied with welcoming a special guest on board the ship, but the pesky telepath insists on happily joining him in the Transporter Room anyways.

When they get there moments later, Geordi, plus the ship's trusty Transporter Room operator, Chief O'Brien, are already there. Picard orders O'Brien to energize, and a portly alien scientist named Dr. Timicin materializes into view. Before Picard can fully welcome Timicin onto the ship, Lwaxana boldly makes her move, introducing herself in usual grandiose fashion and offering up a dinner invitation. From that scenario, it's clear that Counselor Troi's mother has romantic intentions for the crew's newly-arrived guest.
5. Dr. Crusher is in sickbay, observing a Starfleet patient who has a strange physical deformity of some kind, in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Aquiel

This one's a bit tricky! In "Aquiel", Dr. Crusher never has any actual people as patients; her services are only required near the beginning of the episode, when the crew is trying to analyze the remains of the metal plating from the space station, then towards the end of the episode, when she's analyzing the glob of reddish fluid that is determined to be the source of the lifeform that could make copies of organic matter.

In "Conspiracy", Dr. Crusher is checking on the unconscious Admiral Quinn when she sees a tentacle wiggling on the back of his neck, proof that the parasite has taken over his body.

In "Genesis", Dr. Crusher is doing a routine scan on Worf when she notices the unsightly bulbous sac on the side of his neck, which is one of several deformities that are seen as the crew is succumbing to its de-evolved state.

Then in "Identity Crisis", Commander Leitjen, whose blue veins and green eyes show that she is gradually transforming into one of the lifeforms native to Tarchannen III, becomes Dr. Crusher's patient before Geordi himself experiences the same transformation.
6. Wesley is alone inside a room that contains only a single chair, but when he hears sudden noises from another room, he rushes out the doors and into that other room where he finds two men trapped under scattered wreckage.

Answer: Coming Of Age

Wesley must pass one last test before he can be considered for entrance into Starfleet Academy: the psych test. It begins with him in a room, alone, with only a chair in the center. As he begins talking to himself and trying to stay focused on attaining his goal, loud crashing noises from another room within the facility suddenly get his attention.

When nobody responds to his calls for help, the young Academy hopeful races outside and to the front doors of the science lab down the hall. Still, nobody has responded, so he takes it upon himself to enter, where he finds two men, buried under a pile of wreckage, clinging to life...or so it appears. Fighting the smoke exhaust and forcing his way past several fallen pipes and other debris, he manages to pull one of the men out to safety; the other he can't get to and urges the man to help himself.

When Wesley is finally outside the lab with the one 'survivor', he is greeted by a delighted Admiral Chang, who informs Dr. Crusher's son that the rescue was a magnificent performance.

A confused Wesley then sees the 'survivor' stand to his feet under his own power with the second man walking out of the lab with a smile, all as if nothing happened. Chang then reminds Wes of the lesson that, in so many words, one has to be ready for anything and everything, even the unexpected, if you want to be a Starfleet officer, which was the real 'psych test' all along.
7. Worf, during a special ceremony at the Great Hall on the Klingon homeworld, intentionally grabs the blade of a dagger with his bare hand and allows it to bleed.

Answer: Redemption, Part 1

After Gowron has been sworn in as the new leader of the Klingon High Council, he tells Worf (in the usual robust, untranslatable Klingon language) to approach him while Picard, Kurn and the other Klingons inside the Great Hall stand around them. Gowron finally fulfills the wish of the Enterprise's chief of security--to have his family name restored--with the ceremonious moment being marked by him holding out a dagger and Worf sliding his bare hand along the blade end of it until his hand begins dripping in blood. What would a Klingon episode be without at least a tiny little bit of bloodshed, eh? :-)
8. Picard is in Ten Forward, delivering a speech on the topic of archaeology before a small audience, when both Dr. Crusher and Counselor Troi, two of the attendees, suddenly realize that their heads have been outfitted with hats that originated from another place and time.

Answer: Qpid

The always-meddling Q is up to his old tricks again while Picard and the crew are hosting the Federation Archaeology Council's annual symposium on board the ship. As the captain is delivering his speech to the Council and the senior staff, Q magically uses his powers to first produce a decorative hat for Dr. Crusher, which gets Counselor Troi's attention before she too is magically outfitted with a hat herself. That is soon followed by Riker magically receiving a wooden staff in his hand, Data becoming robed and, ultimately, Picard getting equipped with a bow and arrow.

Then when all of the senior crewmembers are whisked away from the Enterprise into an outdoor environment, Picard concludes that they have been transported by Q to Sherwood Forest, the familiar 14th-century locale of the famous literary hero, Robin Hood...or at least the Q Continuum's interpretation of it.
9. An alien man, plus his hand-held weapon, are found completely encased in a web of white fibrous material after a failed attempt to penetrate a forcefield inside of a cave.

Answer: Final Mission

In the first attempt to penetrate the forcefield blocking the fountain inside the cave, the uncooperative and irrationally-thinking Captain Dirgo fires his hand-held weapon at the only source of water on the planet. But this results in the emergence of the energy lifeforms that begin swirling through the air and ricocheting off the cavern ceiling and walls, which then leads to the avalanche of rocks that leave Picard severely injured.

Some time later, Wesley sees that Dirgo's weapon has been encased in a tangled web of selenium fibers, which Dirgo offers was caused by the energy beings.

In the next attempt, Dirgo fires a second hand-held weapon while Wesley simultaneously fires his phaser, believing a variant in the frequency of their combined projectile bursts will do the trick.

The end result is the same, however, with this time Dirgo himself being the victim of the lifeforms attacking when he too ends up encased in the same tangled web of selenium fibers as his other weapon.
10. Data plays a vital role in saving a life or preventing a death in all of the following episodes...except this one.

Answer: Tin Man

Ah, another tricky one to close out a quiz! At the beginning of "Silicon Avatar", when everyone else down on the Earth colony is fleeing from the Crystalline Entity, Riker picks up and carries of one of the children that can't run fast enough on his feet.

But when he sees his love interest, Carmen, trying to help an older man that has fallen down on the ground, the Enterprise's first officer hands the boy over to Data to ensure their safety. Riker then goes back through the forest to try to rescue Carmen and the old man on his own.

In "Contagion", after Data is zapped with an energy outburst while down in the Iconian control room, he must tell Picard, while in his now-malfunctioned state, the instructions on how to destroy everything in the room so that not only the probes up in outer space are disabled, but also in order to prevent the Iconian technology from falling into Romulan hands. And in "Thine Own Self", Data gives the girl the tea he concocted to cure her sick father from the radiation poisoning, then proceeds to pour the same concoction into the well, which eventually cures the rest of the alien civilization by the end of the adventure. So that leaves "Tin Man" as the correct answer.

The mysterious and powerful lifeform that also bears this episode's title could have been considered as a possible threat to both the Enterprise and the Romulan ship. However, the telepathic communication from the Betazoid guest, Tam Elbrun, is what protects everyone during its initial attack. Then when Tam ultimately 'becomes one' with the creature and disappears to some unknown part of the galaxy at the end of the episode, the threat of the powerful lifeform is gone altogether.
