Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There were two Road Block tasks waiting for teams in Tokyo, Japan. The first involved eating chocolate, but the second involved climbing a slippery ramp inspired by which of these?

Answer: Mount Fuji

All racers were put to the test as they started this thirty-first race around the world, and it meant that, in quick succession, they would face Road Block tasks, themed around Japanese game shows, testing their capabilities. In the first, teams needed to pick and choose geta sandals from a distance, searching for one of twelve made of chocolate.

The second task, completed by whoever did not complete the first, involved climbing a slippery twenty foot slope (depicting mount Fuji) to get their clue at the top. Notably, Art took a four-hour penalty at the second Road Block, and this led to himself and JJ being eliminated.
2. In the second leg of the race in Laos, Road Block participants worked with which local animals?

Answer: Elephants

Racing in and around the Laotian capital city of Luang Prabang, teams visited an elephant village supported by local ecotourism and one member of each had to ride an elephant, taking it across the Nam Khan River. If team members could get across and hunt for someone playing a musical instrument in the woods on the other side, they could bring their elephants back, reunite with their partners, and head to the next Pit Stop. Jamal, Nicole, Elissa, Corinne, Christy, Britney, Becca, Chris, Tyler, and Rupert opted to complete this task.
3. Karaoke Kingdom was the site of the Road Block in Leg 3. In what language were team members required to sing?

Answer: Vietnamese

Teams raced through Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in Legs 3 and 4, and the last task of Leg 3 sent teams to face the judgemental crowd of Karaoke Kingdom. Here, one member of each team had to learn a verse of a Vietnamese song, "That Bat Ngo", in the original language.

When they felt like they got the pronunciation down, they could take their skills to the karaoke room and perform their part and, if they got it all correct, they would get their next clue. Floyd, Colin, Victor, Eliza, Tyler, Rachel, Janelle, Bret, and Leo joined this task.
4. Team members joined a silent rave in Leg 5, completing a Road Block looking amongst people wearing which of these?

Answer: Headphones

The nighttime landscape of Dubai, United Arab Emirates awaited teams throughout Leg 5 and they ended up at a silent rave at Soho Garden. There, the selected team member was given a headset playing a remix of the "Amazing Race" theme and they needed to search through other party-goers for one dancing to the matching song. Bret, Nicole, Christie, Floyd, Tyler, Janelle, Leo, and Rachel participated in this challenge, properly identifying the dancers to be able to head to the Pit Stop.
5. In Kampala, Uganda in Leg 6, teams had to cook up a rolex, a local dish made with which of these?

Answer: Eggs

Visiting Oweno Market in Kampala, Uganda in Leg 6, team members had to make the local street food, rolex. For this, they purchased the ingredients and used traditional utensils to cook up a chapati filled with egg and vegetables, then rolled it. Once it was approved by a local street vendor, they would be able to continue racing to their next task on the edge of Lake Victoria. Victor, Korey, Colin, Jamal, Chris, Floyd, Janelle, and Elissa were chosen for this task.
6. During Leg 7, teams performed which of these tasks for their Road Block in the Swiss Alps?

Answer: Rope swinging

Teams travelled to the Gletscherschlucht Glacier Gorge in Grindelwald, Switzerland in Leg 7 and one member of each had to perform a 400ft rope swing into the gorge proper to reunite with their partner and nab their next clue envelope. Korey, Becca, Leo, Christie, Nicole, Elissa, and Chris were chosen to participate in this task, which proved to be one of the more daring challenges of the race.

Interestingly, the Gletscherschlucht Glacier Gorge was visited once before on the race, specifically in its third season (though no one had to jump into it).
7. In Leg 8, team members had to hit an apple off a scarecrow's head using which of these?

Answer: Crossbow

Rounding out the series of challenges in the Swiss Alps in Leg 8, teams ended up in Oberschwanden (near Brienz) for a Road Block task that asked them to make like William Tell and shoot an apple off someone's head. Tyler, Becca, Bret, Victor, Colin, Rachel, and Jamal thus needed to use a crossbow and make an apple on the head of a scarecrow into their target. If they could hit the apple, they could get their next clue, but if they hit the scarecrow it would fall apart and need to be reconstructed for them to take another shot.
8. In Split, Croatia, teams visited the Diocletian's Palace for the Leg 9 Road Block. There, they had to memorize the placements of which of these?

Answer: Roman soldiers

The final six teams ended up in one of the most famous landmarks of Croatia in Leg 9 and it was there that the selected teammates had to play a complicated shell game in which eighteen Roman soldiers marched in formation. Only five of the eighteen would be marked with red ribbons, and those were the ones they needed to memorize on a grid to get their next clue (though they would change with every wrong guess). Korey, Nicole, Floyd, Leo, Christie, and Bret completed this task.
9. In Leg 11, team members completed their code-breaking Road Block task in what UK landmark?

Answer: Dover Castle

Teams took a helicopter from London to Dover for their Road Block task, and it took four participating racers into the chambers and tunnels of Dover Castle to engage with a unique codebreaking strategy used during World War II. If Leo, Victor, Christie, and Korey could use their wits to crack the code and determine the mystery phrase ("The Dunkirk evacuation has begun. We will never surrender."), they could type it out and hand it over to the brigadier to collect their next clue and return to London.
10. The final leg of the race (in Detroit) contained how many Road Block tasks?

Answer: One

Though, historically, teams have generally needed to complete two Road Blocks in the race's final leg to divide the responsibility between both members and leverage a balanced team dynamic, this finale saw only one as Colin, Leo, and Tyler were selected to perform a face-first rappel down the side of the Guardian Building in Detroit, Michigan.

While taking this harrowing 500 feet drop they needed to keep their eyes peeled for instructions and numbers that would allow them to open the bank vault in the building's basement. If they could open the vault, they could get their next clue.
