Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. During the race's fourth leg, team members who rappelled down Castle Hill in Townsville had to make a choice between which two of these (which would come return in a later leg of the race)?

Answer: 'Brains' and 'Brawn'

Although teams faced their first Road Block during the Gold Coast leg (it was a motorbiking challenge), teams second Road Block, found at the start of Leg 4 in Townsville, was a doozy, sending the selected team members on a rappel down the side of Castle Hill in the middle of the night. During this task, the team members participating needed to clip a photo of their team to a board with six 'Brains' slots and six 'Brawn' slots, and those choices would return to them later in the race. Deb, Jackson, Ashleigh, Dolor, Jobelle, Jessica, Aleisha, Skye-Blue, Dwes, Jaskirat, Violeta, and Tina participated in this challenge.
2. Leg 5, held on Magnetic Island, was the first leg to feature two Road Blocks. Which team did not complete both?

Answer: Shane and Deb

Leg 5 notoriously featured a medical evacuation. Though all teams completed the first Road Block hanging over Horseshoe Bay to claim an early morning departure time, Shane sustained an injury that spelled elimination for himself and Deb. Teams found a second Road Block towards the end of the leg when one member of the team (it didn't need to be the opposite member as the first Road Block) had to learn proper fire-breathing techniques. Amanda, Jessica, Skye-Blue, Rani, Chris, Jackson, Anurag, Katherine, and Holly completed the second Road Block. Violeta was also selected to take part in this task but she was unable to finish.
3. Which contestant took a penalty for leaving the Road Block at the Darwin HUET Training Centre (in Leg 8) incomplete?

Answer: Katherine

Leg 8 saw teams in and around the Northern Territory city of Darwin, and as they raced outward, they stumbled upon the Darwin HUET Training Centre for their Road Block, an intense task requiring that teams go blindfolded into a simulated helicopter submersion. For this, teams needed to submerge upside-down underwater and blindly escape their seat and out the side-window to get their clue. If they could manage their claustrophobia they could get the task done on their first try. Aleisha, Chelsea, Jackson, Amanda, Jordan, Holly, Jake, and Anurag completed the task though Katherine did not, instead taking a thirty minute time penalty at the Pit Stop.
4. In Leg 9, all teams were unable to complete the Road Block in Alice Springs due to poor weather conditions. Their task was replaced by which of these?

Answer: Intersection

In Alice Springs, challenge-goers were set to complete a Road Block while riding in hot air balloons over the Australian Outback, but due to poor wind conditions, both balloons were forced to make an immediate landing. Instead of participating in the Road Block, which required that team members drop bags on targeted areas from high above, the teams, already divided into balloons based on their arrival time at a sign-up board, were intersected and forced to fold and pack their balloons before returning to the course.
5. Leg 13's Road Block took place in what previously-visited location?

Answer: Townsville

In Leg 4, teams completed a Road Block task that involved rappelling down the side of Castle Hill. In Leg 13, the remaining teams returned to the same spot and selected a teammate (in some cases the same one) to perform the same rappel during the day, reclaiming pictures attached to the 'Brains'/'Brawn' board from the earlier leg. Because MJ and Chelsea and Stan and Wayne were Stowaway teams, they got to choose from one or the other (first-come-first-serve) on their way down.
6. During Leg 14, which team member completed the ginger harvesting Road Block in the Sunshine Coast Region?

Answer: Brendon

In one of the clearer indications of alliances in the race, the ginger harvesting Road Block found in Leg 14 demonstrated the helpfulness of having teams on one's side. Amanda, Brendon, Jaskirat, Skye-Blue, Aleisha, Dolor, MJ, and Wayne headed to the fields outside of Eumundi, Queensland to properly pick, clean, and sort an allotted amount of ginger out in the dirt to get their next clue. Team members could help other team members selected for the task if they so chose...and some did.
7. The Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary, host to the Road Block in Leg 18, allowed team members to get up close with which wildlife local to Northern Tasmania?

Answer: Tasmanian devil

Only six teams remained as the race continued to the Northern regions of Tasmania, and it was there that team members had a chance to hop into a Tasmanian devil enclosure at a local rehabilitation center. There, they needed to pull a shank of meat around a marked course, dragging the devils along for the ride, while searching for their clue in one of several marked bags. MJ, Anurag, Jake, Jackson, and Aleisha participated in this task one at a time before continuing on.
8. How many Road Blocks did teams complete in Leg 20 (in the Blue Mountains)?

Answer: Two

The journey through New South Wales took teams to the Blue Mountains in Leg 20 and started with a Road Block that forced one member to don a wetsuit and descend down the mountainsides and cascades at Empress Falls. The person who completed the first Road Block was not allowed to participate in the second, a frightening ladder cross spanning a forty meter gap suspended high above a gorge at Mount Boyce.

This was the penultimate double Road Block of the race.
9. In Leg 22, team members completing the Road Block in Broken Hill needed to pay close attention to which of these?

Answer: Balance

Racing through the frontier mining town of Broken Hill in Leg 22, teams headed to the Junction Mine for their Road Block, a task which required that the non-participating member sit on a barrel on the end of a see-saw. The selected partner was required to use a shovel and a wheelbarrow to cart dirt to the beam, then walk across it to fill a barrel on the other end. If they could manage to make the see-saw perfectly level, they could receive their next clue. Anurag, Amanda, Brendon, and Chris completed this task, and while half the teams put their lighter member on the balancing side, half did not.
10. The final leg of the race featured two Road Blocks, both of which were completed in Australia's capital.

Answer: False

While the race's twenty-fourth leg sent teams to Canberra and featured two Road Block tasks, only the first one was performed in Canberra. The first of these tasks (in Canberra) forced teams to use a Fliteboard for ten seconds in the waters of Lake Burley Griffin while the second, which took teams to the resort village of Thredbo, had the other team member perform a helicopter stunt, descending a rope ladder and swimming into the Thredbo River to get their clue.
