Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Teams commenced the race in what Australian state?

Answer: Queensland

For this unique season of the race, fourteen teams of two were brought together in Far North Queensland where the world's oldest rainforest meet the world's largest coral reef. Situated on Newell Beach in Daintree Rainforest, team took off from the starting line and had to make an immediate choice between taking the beach or taking a boat as per their first clue (located on their backpacks). Once they heard the word go, they could grab their bags and either race on foot one kilometre to their vehicles or take the a boat three kilometres to another fleet of cars.

There were only seven boats available, first-come-first-serve.
2. Teams faced their first official task at Drumsara Station, and it involved paying homage to which of these?

Answer: WWII bombers

Grabbing their vehicles, teams were told to navigate their way to Drumsara Station in the small town of Mossman, Queensland where they would find their first official task. For this, teams commemorated the area's World War II history by suspending one teammate above the ground (wearing a pilot's outfit).

The grounded teammate would toss the large balls to be tossed into a target. If they could sink four balls, they would receive their next clue and be able to continue with the race. Only four teams could complete this task at any given time.
3. During the race's first Detour, teams completing the 'Food' option had to work with which local cuisine?

Answer: Prawns

Completing the bombing task, teams found the race's first Detour, a choice between 'Food' and 'Bev', both of which took teams to the Mossman Hotel. In 'Food', the teams had to prepare two kilograms of shrimp, removing the head, tail, and shell of each.

In 'Bev', however, both members of each team had to carry seven schooners of beer along a complex path through the corridors and rooms of the hotel. The beers could not spill if they wanted to get their clue. Sefa and Jessica, Jaskirat and Anurag, Holly and Dolor, Chris and Aleisha, Shane and Deb, Malaan and Tina, Jude and Shannon, Dwes and Katherine, and Jobelle and Rani completed 'Food' while Brendon and Jackson, Ashleigh and Amanda, Alex and Jack, Skye-Blue and Jake, and Jordan and Violeta went for 'Bev'.
4. Teams had to grab twenty of which of these before checking into their first Pit Stop?

Answer: Cane toads

Completing the Detour, teams proceeded to the Mossman Sugar Mill where they had to retrieve a pair of sugar tongs hidden within a massive pile of sugar cane. Then, they had to hunt through a massive pile of raw sugar for a solid golden sugar cube. Once they dropped it into a massive teacup, they could get their next clue.

This next clue sent them on foot to a spot along the Mossman River where they had to catch twenty poisonous cane toads in a frog pen (with their hands) and place them in a box to get their next clue.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of the race's first leg in Mossman?

Answer: Dwes and Katherine

After a highly physical leg of the race through the Mossman area, fourteen teams were told to travel on foot to the flagged path around the Mossman Sugar Mill and back to the edge of the Daintree Rainforest where they would find their first Pit Stop of the race. Sikh friends Jaskirat and Anurag narrowly beat out Alex and Jack to take first place on this first leg winning an eco-adventure trip to Cairns and Daintree from Tourism Tropical North Queensland. Jobelle and Rani took a penalty for skipping the bombing challenge in this leg, so while they arrived in eleventh place, they had to sit out a thirty minute penalty.

It meant they dropped to thirteenth position while Dwes and Katherine couldn't check in in time. They became the first team to be eliminated from the season.
6. Which team withdrew from the race between the first and second leg?

Answer: Alex and Jack

Teams were taken to Cairns between Leg 1 and Leg 2 and, as per race custom, departed in the order they arrived twelve hours after their arrival at the previous Pit Stop with the instruction to fly to the Gold Coast. This being said, twin models Alex and Jack, who placed second in the previous leg of the race, did not attend their departure time.

It was later revealed that the duo's quarantine time pre-race led to a severe mental health concern on Alex's part that forced them to make the decision to withdraw.

This meant that only twelve teams would continue racing into Leg 2.
7. The entirety of the race's second leg was held in which city?

Answer: Gold Coast

Starting in the city of Cairns at the start of Leg 2, teams needed to fly themselves to the Gold Coast. Upon touching down in this city they needed to head to the coastal area of Coolangatta to find the North Kirra Surf Life-Saving Club where a lifeguard would give them their next clue. For the task here, team members would have to work together to navigate a buoy course out at sea with one in an inflatable boat braving the waves and the other on shore instructing with flag commands. Upon returning to shore with three race flags, teams could receive their Detour clue.
8. Teams completing the 'Snappy Feet' Detour task in Leg 2 needed to find a golden version of which of these (in an Ugg boot) to get their clue?

Answer: Mousetrap

Completing the lifeguard challenge, teams chose between 'Swim to the Beat' and 'Snappy Feet' for their Detour. In 'Swim to the Beat', teams visited the Gold Coast Aquatic Center, changed into the appropriate attire, and learned a challenging synchronized swimming routine.

In 'Snappy Feet', they had to visit a Miami Ugg Boot store and search through thousands of pairs of footwear, sticking their hands into them blindly, to find one containing a gold mousetrap (most of them contained regular traps). 'Swim to the Beat' was selected by Sefa and Jessica, Jordan and Violeta, Chris and Aleisha, and Holly and Dolor; 'Snappy Feet' was done by Shane and Deb, Jaskirat and Anurag, Ashleigh and Amanda, Skye-Blue and Jake, Malaan and Tina, Brendon and Jackson, Jobelle and Rani, and Jude and Shannon.
9. The race's first Road Block, found in Leg 2, had team members riding which of these around a race course?

Answer: Dirtbike

Finishing the Detour, teams were sent to the Mike Hatcher Junior Motorcycle Club in Arundel Gold Coast where they were given their first Road Block task of the race. For this task, team members needed to 'feel a bit dirty' as they hopped onto a dirtbike to ride around the track at Hatcher's Raceway. If they could get around the course in fifty-five seconds or less, they could get their next clue. Shane, Anurag, Brendon, Jordan, Jake, Ashleigh, Malaan, Rani, Sefa, Chris, Shannon, and Dolor were selected to complete this task.
10. Which of these was not given to the first place team at the Pit Stop in Leg 2?

Answer: Express Pass

After the Road Block, teams needed to reach the Telstra 5G Innovation Centre in Southport to find their next Pit Stop destination on the electronic billboard outside. This would lead them by G:link tram and taxi to Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast, a water park where they would need to pay fare, head inside, and ride the AquaLoop water slide to the mat. Jaskirat and Anurag eked ahead of Shane and Deb in the last moments of the leg, winning themselves a second leg in a row. For this they won the First Class Pass, allowing them to skip Leg 3 (without being eliminated) and a Salvage Pass and a Sabotage Pass to be given to the final two teams upon arrival.

They elected to give the Salvage Pass to Holly and Dolor, presenting them with a significant advantage in Leg 3, and the Sabotage Pass (and an impediment) to Jude and Shannon since they placed last.
