Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Visiting Newcastle, New South Wales in Leg 19, teams had to learn which type of dance?

Answer: Tap dance

The final five teams started Leg 19 in Launceston, Tasmania, ripping open their clues at Riverbend Park to learn that they would be flying back to Mainland Australia to pick up the course in New South Wales. Flying into Sydney, teams then needed to purchase tickets at the city's train station and head north along the coast to Newcastle to continue the race. Upon arriving there, teams visited Newcastle Steelworks where both team members needed to join the Tap Dogs and learn a tap dance routine to the approval of the troupe.
2. For their dressage task in Leg 19, teams performed with real horses.

Answer: False

Finishing their tap task, teams were directed to the town of Cessnock in the Hunter Valley. There, once they located the Byalee Stables, one hundred kilometers west of Newcastle, they could find a sign-up board for their next challenge beginning the following morning.

This task, starting as early as 8:30am, forced teams to complete a complex custom synchronized dressage routine...with a hobby horse. Once a local dressage coach deemed their pas de deux performance a pass, they could get their next clue and carry on.
3. Which Detour task was completed by more teams during their time in the Hunter Valley in Leg 19?

Answer: 'Pit'

Completing their dressage task, teams received a Detour clue sending them to the wineries in the Pokolbin area of the Hunter Valley. The task choice this time were 'Pit' and 'Paddle'. In 'Pit', teams needed to head to Tintilla Estate Winery and Olive Farm to de-pit two hundred olives with their hands to get their next clue while in 'Paddle', teams went to RidgeView Estate Winery to paddle out to a swim ring in the middle of a lake (atop a wine barrel), grab some grapes, and squeeze enough to fill a wine glass (150 mL). All five teams went for 'Pit'.
4. At the end of Leg 19, teams unrolled haybales looking for which of these inside?

Answer: Needle

Upon completing their Detour, teams were handed a clue for one last 'needle in a haystack' task for this leg...literally. Driving themselves to the nearby Pokolbin Farm Stay, teams needed to un-bale a single bale of hay and search through its contents for a single coloured knitting needle.

When it was located they could trade it for their final clue of the leg and then head onward to the Pit Stop.
5. Which team was last to check in at the race's nineteenth Pit Stop at the Hunter Valley Gardens?

Answer: Jaskirat and Anurag

After finding their needle in a haystack, teams needed to finish off their nineteenth leg by driving themselves to the Hunter Valley Gardens to find Beau and the Pit Stop mat hidden inside the garden grounds at the Sunken Garden Lookout. Ashleigh and Amanda were the first to arrive at the gardens, finding their needle first and knowing the area well enough to locate their destination the fastest.

It won them a QT Sydney and QT Bondi package from TenTravel.com. Jaskirat and Anurag dropped from second place to last in the span of the haystack challenge, only finishing after an hour and a half.

They landed on the mat and found themselves spared by a non-elimination point.
6. Which team member did not complete the adventure Road Block in Blue Mountains National Park in Leg 20?

Answer: Chris

Teams ended Leg 19 in the Hunter Valley, but their Pit Start for Leg 20 was held in a bit of a different spot. The five racing teams were sent to the Echo Point Lookout in New South Wales' Blue Mountains National Park to open their first clue-- a surprise early Road Block requiring someone who looks good in a suit. For this task, Amanda, Aleisha, Skye-Blue, Brendon, and Jaskirat donned wetsuits and, heading to Empress Canyon and Wentworth Falls, trekked through the terrain, waded through rivers, plunged into pools, and abseiled down a thirty meters down a waterfall to get their next clue.
7. What did teams need to launch during the 'Launch' Detour task found in Leg 20?

Answer: Puddings

Completing the adventure Road Block, teams obtained their Detour task and drove off to the town of Medlow Bath and the Hydro Majestic Hotel. The choice this time: 'Lunch' or 'Launch'. In 'Lunch', Ashleigh and Amanda and Chris and Aleisha visited The Wintergarden Restaurant to take orders of eight items (each) for diners observing high tea. If they could properly serve the order, they could get their next clue.

In 'Launch', on the other hand, Jaskirat and Anurag, Brendon and Jackson, and Skye-Blue and Jake went to Belgravia Lawn to dress in costumes and, using a slingshot, one team member needed to shoot chocolate puddings to their teammate to be caught in a hat. If they got five, the task was completed.
8. Visiting the Carrington Town Square of Katoomba in Leg 20, teams used which of these to perform a dance?

Answer: Hula hoop

The Detour task complete, teams were told to drive onward to the town of Katoomba and to their next task at the Carrington Town Square. There, teams would be given three hula hoops (two for individuals and one double hoop) to jointly perform a complex street performance to the satisfaction of local artists. If they could successfully finish the dance, they could get their next clue.
9. Leg 20 featured a second Road Block task which required that one team member do which of these?

Answer: Cross a bridge

Finishing the hula task, teams were surprised to find a second Road Block task during this leg of the race, and in such an instance it meant that the person who did not complete the first Road Block needed to participate in the second. What faced Jackson, Ashleigh, Chris, Anurag, and Jake was a terrifying walk across a forty meter long ladder bridge suspended eighty meters above the ground above Mount Boyce. If they could cross the slatted skybridge in full, they could get their clue. If they fell off (as Anurag and Jake did), then they would have to start over at the back of the queue.
10. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 20, placing fifth overall in this season of the race?

Answer: Skye-Blue and Jake

Completion of the leg's second Road Block left teams with only one thing to do. To end off Leg 20, the final five teams had to drive into the town of Leura to find the Leuralla Toy and Rail Museum and, subsequently, the amphitheatre across the road there. Ashleigh and Amanda managed another win in this leg, staying near the front of the pack for the bulk of the day to take their third win in a row. Skye-Blue and Jake managed to falter in the final two tasks of the leg and it was enough to force them to check in in last place.

They were ultimately eliminated from the race.
