Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these phrases was used to indicate a team added to the race partway through (as happened at the start of Leg 7)?

Answer: Stowaway Team

After travelling through a large chunk of Queensland for six legs of the race, teams finally headed to the Northern Territory and the city of Darwin in Leg 7, flying from Cairns during their sixth Pit Stop break and meeting Beau at the airport. It was during this time that the nine remaining teams were informed of a new twist in which a 'Stowaway Team' would be introduced to the race, joining them five minutes after heading out on their seventh leg.

As such, MJ and Chelsea joined the roster going forward.

The first clue of this leg was found in the teams' cars at the airport.
2. Visiting Darwin in Leg 7, teams had to deal with which of these Australian animals?

Answer: Crocodile

Heading into Darwin, teams needed to drive to Crocodylus Park where they needed to help park rangers relocate a saltwater crocodile, carrying it nearly half a kilometer through the park before measuring it and releasing it into a new lagoon. Once teams completed this to the satisfaction of the rangers, they would get their next clue.

Interestingly, teams visited Mindil Park in Darwin at the start of Leg 7 (before heading to Crocodylus Park) for their traditional Welcome to Country ceremony, but this was instead aired during Leg 8.
3. During the 'Eat It' Detour task in Leg 7, teams needed to make and then eat Darwin's local dish, laksa.

Answer: False

Completing the crocodile task, teams had to make their Detour choice between two very different tasks in Darwin. In 'Treat It', teams had to join the Royal Flying Doctor Service and head to the hangar at their headquarters to attend to three wounds-- a burn, a head trauma, and a snakebite-- by properly following a medical manual provided to them.

In 'Eat It', teams headed to the Laksa House where they had to make a proper bowl of Devil's Laksa for local chef Amye Un (though they didn't need to eat it!). Holly and Dolor, Brendon and Jackson, Jordan and Violeta, Chris and Aleisha, Chelsea and MJ, and Sefa and Jessica went to 'Treat It' while Dwes and Katherine, Jaskirat and Anurag, Ashleigh and Amanda, and Skye-Blue and Jake went to 'Eat It'.
4. Teams completing the Road Block in Darwin in Leg 7 needed to collect which of these from a billabong?

Answer: A knife

After their Detour tasks, teams were given a Road Block clue, and for this all of the teams had to head to a local billabong by the name of Girraween Lagoon to reenact a scene from "Crocodile Dundee". Once there, teams had to find out who was the sharpest by swimming out to a pontoon in the croc-infested waters, grabbing a knife, and returning to shore with it.

When they successfully hit a target with their collected knife, they could get their next clue. Dwes, MJ, Chris, Jaskirat, Skye-Blue, Jackson, Holly, Ashleigh, Jessica, and Jordan completed this task.
5. Which team was the last to arrive at the seventh Pit Stop in Darwin?

Answer: Sefa and Jessica

To end off the seventh leg, teams raced to Hidden Valley Raceway to find the drift cars. There, jumping into the passenger seat with a professional driver, team members needed to hold onto a fishbowl as their cars took turns on the course, preventing the water inside from dropping below a marked line. If they could finish the lap, they could head to their next Pit Stop on the premises...above the racetrack's Pit Stop.

There, Jaskirat and Anurag completed the leg in first place, overtaking Dwes and Katherine at the track and winning a five-night harbourside escape in Darwin with a safari trip.

After staying at the back of the pack throughout the seventh leg of the race, Sefa and Jessica were last to arrive on the mat having been unable to finish the last task.

They were eliminated from the race.
6. In the 'Chomp' Detour task at the start of Leg 8 in Darwin, teams had to eat which of these?

Answer: Fish

The teams started Leg 8 in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop, but the nine remaining pairs were brought to Civic Park in Darwin to open their first clue, a surprise early Detour task involving Chinese customs brought to the Darwin area by Chinese migrants.

Heading to Lazy Susan's Eating House in Darwin for the 'Chomp' Detour task, teams had to take a seat and eat an entire steamed fish platter using only chopsticks. After consuming approximately three and a half kilograms of fish (including the brain, tail, and eyes), teams could get their next clue. Only one team completed this task.
7. During the 'Stomp' Detour task, teams learned a traditional dance in which they moved in a single lion costume. Which team did not complete the task?

Answer: Skye-Blue and Jake

Heading to the Chung Wah Society Temple for the 'Stomp' Detour, teams needed to learn and perform a traditional Chinese lion dance in full costume, donning the two-man outfit and memorizing the steps of a routine meant to give good fortune. This routine also included a technique in which the lead team member had to use the mouth to eat a head of lettuce. Once completed to the satisfaction of their teachers, teams could get their next clue. Jaskirat and Anurag, Dwes and Katherine, MJ and Chelsea, Chris and Aleisha, Brendon and Jackson, Ashleigh and Amanda, Holly and Dolor, and Jordan and Violeta all went to this task.
8. Team members wore which of these during their simulated helicopter crash in the Leg 8 Road Block?

Answer: Blindfold

In this Road Block, teams were asked 'Who's got a sinking feeling?' before heading off to receive military training. Visiting the Darwin HUET Training Centre, team members completed a helicopter safety training module, a simulated helicopter crash into the ocean.

While holding their breath, team members needed to unbuckle themselves from a helicopter seat and escape out the window of the training apparatus to surface and claim their next clue. The catch, however, was that they would be doing it blindfolded. Aleisha, Chelsea, Jackson, Amanda, Jordan, Holly, Jake, and Anurag completed this task however Katherine opted to take a penalty, leaving it incomplete.
9. In Leg 8, teams had to catch a barramundi, but they had to do so with their bare hands.

Answer: True

Leaving Darwin, teams needed to drive themselves a half hour inland to the small town of Humpty Doo to find their next task at the Humpty Doo Barramundi Farm, the largest such farm in Australia. All teams needed to do at this spot was catch a barramundi with their bare hands, plunk it into a net, and trade it for their next clue.

While one team member hopped into the water to go grabbing, the other could stay on shore waiting with the net.
10. Which team won Leg 8, claiming the First Class Pass?

Answer: MJ and Chelsea

Ending off the eighth leg of the race in Humpty Doo, teams left the Humpty Doo Barramundi Farm with a map to Nev's Place, their next Pit Stop, at the end of a long dirt road at the home of the world's loudest burper. There, MJ and Chelsea managed to edge out Chris and Aleisha to win their very first leg (after only one other leg present in the race).

It allowed them to claim the First Class Pass for themselves, skipping Leg 9 in its entirety. It also meant this would be a non-elimination leg, but they would be able to dole out the Sabotage Pass, which they gave to strong front-runners Jaskirat and Anurag, and the Salvage Pass, which they gave to Dwes and Katherine, who incurred a thirty minute penalty for leaving the Road Block incomplete and subsequently checked in last.
