Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Visiting Garlo's Pies in Sydney during Leg 23, teams had to make what type of pies?

Answer: Meat

At the start of Leg 23, the final three teams were brought from Silverton back to Broken Hill where, at the BHP Mine, they opened clues directing them to Australia's largest city, Sydney. Teams headed to Broken Hill Airport and flew to their destination before hopping onto an airport link train to Kingsgrove.

There they could visit Garlo's Pies for their first task, which involved the making of two dozen meat pies (rolling, filling, and baking them) which they could trade for their next clue.
2. During Leg 23 teams made food but they also had to eat it. What did teams ingest during their visit to Sydney?

Answer: Balut eggs

After making food at Garlo's Pies, the teams had to indulge a little bit with a cultural delight. Teams headed to the Diem Hen Restaurant in West Sydney's Canley Heights to enjoy traditional Vietnamese balut eggs, fertilized duck embryos, which had been developing for three to four weeks. Once teams could eat six of these between themselves, they would be able to trade their empty plate for their next clue (and something to wash it all down). Fortunately, they were done with food going into their Detour.
3. In Leg 23, more teams chose which Chinese-themed Detour task (their last of the race) over the other?

Answer: 'Find'

Racers continued to indulge in Sydney's multicultural nature in Leg 23 as they headed into the Chinese-themed Detour, a choice between 'Fan' and 'Find'. Teams choosing 'Fan' needed to go to the MingYue Lay Temple to learn and perform a traditional fan dance while in 'Find' teams went to the main hall of the temple to shake a jar of fortune sticks.

When their single stick shook out they needed to go to the gold room and find the proper golden lockbox in the temple to get their next clue. All three teams went with 'Find'.
4. The stunt Road Block performed at the Sydney Trapeze School in Leg 23 was inspired by which film series?

Answer: Marvel

After the Detour, teams made their way by train to the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence in Redfern where they had to write and perform a rap song based on a tune by Majeda. If teams could write a rhyming track to the beat about their time on the race they would get their Road Block clue, a task sending them to the Sydney Trapeze School in St. Peters.

Here, Brendon, Jaskirat, and Ashleigh were selected to perform a unique stunt inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which they had to leap over a flaming beam and drop ten meters down onto a safety bag.
5. In Leg 23, no team was eliminated. Ashleigh and Amanda, however, placed last for their first time in the race.

Answer: True

The Road Block complete, the final three teams raced to the season's final Pit Stop in Sydney at Berry's Bay Lookout and Carradah Park overlooking Sydney Harbour. Brendon and Jackson kept their lead for the entire leg to win their fourth of the race, this time taking with them a holiday trip for two to New Zealand courtesy of 10 Travlr which they could enjoy after the race.

After twenty-three legs, Ashleigh and Amanda experienced their first fumble of the race, placing last upon arriving at the Pit Stop.

They were, however, spared by the final non-elimination of the race and subsequently spent their last Pit Stop in a tent suspended on the side of a cliff face.
6. In the final leg of the race, teams flew from Sydney to what final city?

Answer: Canberra

The finalists slept as best as could be expected in tents suspended high off the ground overlooking Sydney Harbour before ripping open their clues in Carradah Park. This one, sparking the start of their final leg, sent them to the Australian capital city, Canberra, with a Road Block task in-hand. To begin, teams flew direct, all on the same flight, to the city of Canberra and took taxis to Lake Burley Griffin to ride fliteboards for ten seconds. Since they were performing the task in front of the High Court, they were also dressed as judges for the task. Jackson, Jaskirat, and Amanda balanced out for this task.
7. Teams completed several puzzles in the final leg of the race, but their first involved recreating which of these?

Answer: Flags

Completing the fliteboard Road Block, teams made their way to the front lawn of Parliament House for a mental task. Given two separate puzzles, teams needed to work to assemble six-metre-wide fabric strips in the proper order to create both the existing Australian flag and the Australian Aboriginal Flag (both stretching ten metres across!). Though teams were also given a complicated memorization task in Old Parliament House, this went unaired for the episode and teams were instead shown being pushed into their second and final Road Block.
8. Which vehicle was required for teams to complete the final Road Block of the race in Thredbo?

Answer: Helicopter

Leaving Canberra, teams were given one last Road Block which required that Brendon, Ashleigh, and Anurag, who did not compete in the first one, have their hand at a solo task. For this, both team members had to head to Canberra Airport to hitch a stunt helicopter ride to the resort village of Thredbo.

While the non-participating teammate waited to the side, the Road Blocked racer needed to descend a rope ladder from the helicopter into the lake below to get their next clue. Then they had to jump into the water and swim to their partner onshore.
9. During race's final task, puzzle pieces were obtained from who of the following?

Answer: Previously eliminated teams

The race didn't end with the final Road Block. Teams had to head to the Merritt's Gondola at Friday Flat and ride to the top. There, they could take a slip and slide down the mountain to the bottom of the course and if they could collect six coloured flags during their descent, they could get their next clue.

This one sent them to Eagles Nest via the Kosciuszko Express chairlift for one last game in which they needed to face the thirteen previously eliminated teams, answering questions about wacky Australian laws while collecting puzzle pieces for a map of Australia from each respective state. Completion of the map puzzle meant receiving their final clue.
10. Which team won "The Amazing Race Australia 5"?

Answer: Brendon and Jackson

After completing the last puzzle, the teams received one last clue and then raced on foot straight up to the finish line at the top of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mountain at an altitude of 2,228m above sea level. If teams could brave the altitude in this final sprint to the finish, they could take the win. And that was exactly what happened for Brendon and Jackson, who led the near-entirety of this final leg and ascended to victory, becoming the ultimate victors of "The Amazing Race Australia 5" and taking with them the $250,000 grand prize.

They were followed by Ashleigh and Amanda in second place and Jaskirat and Anurag in third.
