Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sheldon lies to get out of what activity mandated by his P.E. class?

Answer: Swimming

The high school requires Sheldon to take a swimming class, but he refuses to due to the amount of bacteria in the pool. To make matters worse, he has a nightmare about being eaten by a pool monster (portrayed by Kaley Cuoco, who also portrayed Penny on "The Big Bang Theory"). So, he lies and tells his mom that he's sick.

She believes him because the neighbor Billy Sparks is also sick, and because Sheldon had no previous history of lying. Even though his siblings know he's lying, they don't tell their mom.

His dad doesn't believe him either, but his mom overruled him. Eventually, Sheldon starts feeling guilty about lying to his mother. At first, he goes to visit Billy and touches him so he can really get sick. That doesn't work right away, and he has a fantasy that batman tells him to tell the truth.

His mom forgives him, and he goes to school the next day.
2. Who is the only person who Sheldon doesn't infect when he gets sick?

Answer: Dr. Sturgis

Billy gets sick and Sheldon touches him. Mary takes him to school the next day, not knowing that this happened. He infects over 100 students, all his teachers, the principal, his entire family, and Mee Maw's then-boyfriend Dale. Dr. Sturgis learns some new boundaries he must follow during the course of the episode, and in the end he stays away from the Coopers and Dale. He doesn't get sick, but he crashes his bike into some trash cans. Fortunately, he lands on his athletic supporter, which he had recently purchased from Dale.
3. In "A Live Chicken, A Fried Chicken, and Holy Matrimony", what two people does the third part of the title refer to?

Answer: Pastor Jeff and Officer Robin

At the end of "A Broom Closet and Satan's Monopoly Board", Officer Robin said that she wanted to get married. Nine episodes later, Pastor Jeff and Officer Robin ask Mary to help him plan their wedding. She does, but this makes her emotional. In the dress store, she looks in the mirror and cries a lot.

She confesses that she is jealous because she believes Pastor Jeff and Officer Robin are going to have the perfect wedding that she and George never had. Pastor Jeff decides he no longer wants her to plan their wedding.
4. In "Body Glitter and a Mall Safety Kit,", who appears for the first and only time in season three?

Answer: Paige

Paige I s a genius who Sheldon met in Dr. Sturgis's class in season two. Sheldon doesn't like her very much because she is smarter than him, but Dr. Sturgis told Mary about Paige. Mary then invites Paige to their house. We see Paige several times in season two. At first she likes Sheldon, but as time progresses she actually seems to like Missy more than she likes Sheldon. Meanwhile, her parents get divorced.

In season three, due to her parents' divorce, Paige gives up on being a smart kid and decides to become a bad kid. She shoplifts body glitter and hides it in Sheldon's backpack. Sheldon gets mad (who wouldn't), but then he calls Dr. Sturgis and asks him for advice. Dr. Sturgis, telling Sheldon what he learned in the mental hospital, says that Sheldon should listen to Paige's problem. Sheldon does just that, and then he makes tea for Paige to help her feel better. This is the beginning of Sheldon's well-established custom of offering guests hot beverages when they are upset. Adult Sheldon, narrating, says that he tried to offer Amy a beverage while she was in labor. That turned out to be a bad idea.
5. In "Contracts, Rules and a Little Bit of Pig Brains", George and Dale reluctantly invite who to come with them on their camping trip?

Answer: Dr. Sturgis

George, Dale, and Georgie plan a camping trip together. Dr. Sturgis calls George and asks what he will do with him over the weekend. At first, George tells Dr. Sturgis that he planned to go on a camping trip with Dale's current boyfriend and apologizes to Dr. Sturgis, but Dr. Sturgis says that he loves camping and would love to come along. George calls Dale and tells him that Dr. Sturgis wants to come along. Dale is surprised, but he agrees to let Dr. Sturgis come.

When the Cooper family has dinner together, Georgie mentions to the family that they are going camping with Dr. Sturgis. Mee Maw, not previously knowing that Dr. Sturgis was going on the trip, gets angry.

However, she then calls Dr. Sturgis and warns him not to get offended because Dale likes to insult people for fun. Dr. Sturgis promises he won't.

However, on the camping trip, Dr. Sturgis turns out to be a better fisher than Dale. This, coupled with him knowing a lot of facts, makes Dale jealous and Dale confesses that George only invited Dr. Sturgis because he felt sorry for him. Dr. Sturgis gets upset and takes a bus home.
6. Who is Dale's ex-wife?

Answer: June

June, played by Reba McEntire, meets Mee Maw at baseball practice. She tells Mee Maw that she's Dale's ex-wife. Mee Maw tells her that she's dating Dale now. The two of them get very happy together and decide to go out with drinks with each other. Dr. Sturgis sees them at the bar and tells June that he's Mee Maw's ex-boyfriend.

At the end of the episode, Dr. Sturgis calls June to ask her if she has any romantic interest in him. June says she doesn't, but also tells him not to give up on Mee Maw and she promises Dr. Sturgis that Dale will make some kind of huge mistake that will make Mee Maw not want to be with him anymore.
7. Finish the Mary Cooper quote: "Sheldon does not look down on women ____".

Answer: "He looks down on everyone!"

When Dr. Sturgis assigns group projects, Sheldon and his group mates do their project at the Cooper house upon Mary's suggestion. They do not enjoy working together. The woman in the group confesses to Mary that no one takes her seriously because she's the only girl in the group.

The woman then goes on to blame Mary, saying that by doing laundry and baking cookies, she's raising another boy to believe that all women are just housewives. That's when Mary responds with this great quote.
8. Where does Sheldon attend a lecture by Stephen Hawking?

Answer: Pasadena, California

Sheldon tells his parents about a lecture by Stephen Hawking in Pasadena, California. Initially, they tell him that they don't have the money for it. However, Dr. Sturgis tells Sheldon that the university is willing to sponsor a trip to Pasadena for Sheldon and his dad.

This makes Missy very unhappy. Mary also gets mad, not understanding why Sheldon chose dad instead of her. Sheldon has a panic attack on the plane, but his dad handles it by asking Sheldon to pretend to be Mr. Spock. The episode ends at Cal-Tech university, with Sheldon saying, "I could see myself going here one day." The camera zooms out to reveal the cafeteria where many scenes in "The Big Bang Theory" take place.
9. In "An Academic Crime and a More Romantic Taco Bell", which two people surprisingly got in a fight with each other?

Answer: Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis

Sheldon and Dr. Sturgis had previously gotten in a fight in one episode of season two, but that fight ended at the end of that episode, and other than that they have been great friends. However, in "An Academic Crime and a More Romantic Taco Bell", Dr. Sturgis forgets to go to class.

Sheldon goes to his office to find out what happened. It turns out Dr. Sturgis missed the class because he was focused on writing a paper. Dr. Sturgis shows the paper to Sheldon. Sheldon finds an error in the paper, but he fixes it. By fixing the error, he believes he will be credited as a co-author on the paper. Dr. Sturgis says that Sheldon will only be credited in the foot notes, not as a co-author.

This outrages Sheldon, who then calls Dr. Linkletter to accuse Dr. Sturgis of plagiarism. Dr. Linkletter promises to talk to Dr. Sturgis about it. Dr. Sturgis then angrily calls Sheldon to let him know that he is kicking him out of the class.
10. In "A Couple Bruised Ribs and a Cereal Box Ghost Detector", the first half of the episode title refers to who?

Answer: Mrs. Hutchins

The librarian Mrs. Hutchins shows up at one of the high school's football games because her therapist told her to try one new thing each week and she chose football. Coach George Cooper allows her to watch the game from the sidelines. However, one of the players runs full speed right at George. George hears one of the assistant coaches say "Heads up!" and he gets out of the way, but by doing this, he lets the librarian get hit by the player. George feels horrible about what he has done (for some reason he gets all the blame and the player gets none of the blame), and he lets her stay at the Cooper house. George kicks Georgie Jr. out of his room so she can sleep there, and Georgie has to live with Mee Maw during the episode. George takes care of the librarian and her cats Edgar and Allen (Poe ran away).

The librarian accidentally convinces Sheldon to apologize to Dr. Sturgis (she was trying to get him to apologize to his mom).
11. In "A House for Sale and Serious Woman Stuff", who buys the house?

Answer: Pastor Jeff and Officer Robin

When Sheldon hears that the house across the street from his is for sale, he tries to do what he can to control who moves into the house. One of the things he does is call the police and ask the officer if there has been a murder in the house. The officer, who happens to be Robin, does the research and finds out that there has been no murders at the house. Robin then tells Jeff (off screen) that this house is for sale. Jeff then tells Mary that the house across the street from her is for sale (but luckily for Sheldon, he does not tell her that Robin told him that Sheldon called Robin and asked if there were any murders there). Mary is nervous about living across the street from her boss. Nonetheless, in the end, Jeff and Robin buy the house.
12. In "A House for Sale and Serious Woman Stuff", who sells the house?

Answer: Mr. Lundy

The drama teacher is also a real estate agent because while drama is his passion, the real estate job is what pays his bills. He has a little trouble selling the house across the street from the Coopers because Sheldon drives away several potential buyers. Mr. Lundy eventually sells the house to Jeff and Robin.

At first, Sheldon approves of the idea of having a police officer live near him because he'd feel safer. However, when Jeff and Robin tell the Coopers that Robin is pregnant, and when Jeff tells Sheldon that he may babysit their child one day, Sheldon decides to buckle down and work harder than ever on his college applications.

Sheldon does not seem to realize that he is the whole reason Jeff and Robin even knew about the house (He called the police to ask if there was ever a murder at that house and the officer he talked to and who did the research for him was Robin).
13. In "A Baby Tooth and the Egyptian God of Knowledge", we see talking posters of all of these people and more except who?

Answer: Axl Rose

When Sheldon goes to the dentist (played by Ryan Stiles), they put him on anesthesia. While he's under anesthesia, he dreams that he saw Thoth (the title character of the episode) and that Thoth told him the grand unified field theory. However, when he wakes up, he forgets it, and the dentist won't put him back under for a second time just to have this dream again. So, he looks for other ways to try to become unconscious. The thing that works is a lot of chamomile tea. He then hallucinates that his posters are talking to him. The posters tell them he should enjoy pursuing the knowledge, not just having it. The posters include Albert Einstein, Richard Feynman, Stephen Hawking, Professor Proton, and at the end of the conversation, Missy's Cyndi Lauper poster talks (reminding us that Sheldon and Missy share a room).

Georgie has an Axl Rose poster, but he does not share his room with Sheldon so we do not hear that poster talk.
14. At the end of "A Baby Tooth and the Egyptian God of Knowledge", who gets fired?

Answer: Georgie

Dale and Mee Maw decide to go on a little vacation together. Dale decides to leave Georgie in charge. Mee Maw warns Dale that this is a bad idea, but reluctantly allows it because she desperately wants a vacation with Dale. On the vacation, Dale proposes to Mee Maw. Mee Maw is infuriated that Dale thinks that just because he gave her grandson a job, she should marry him. Dale goes home early. Meanwhile, Georgie starts off doing a great job as store manager, but then he leave the cash register open and all the money gets stolen. To make matters worse, he decides not to get the police involved.

He then decides to replace the stolen money with his own money. He goes to the store early one day to refill the cash register, but Dale surprisingly returns home early. Georgie confesses to Dale what has happened. Dale, who is already in a bad mood after Mee Maw rejected his proposal, gets even more unhappy decides that even paying the money back isn't good enough, so he fires Georgie.

In the next episode, Mee Maw, thinking that Dale only fired Georgie because he was mad at her, calls Dale to warn him not to take his anger at her out on her grandson, but Dale does not heed the warning.

The season ends with Georgie and Mee Maw throwing eggs at Dale's store.
15. During most of "A Secret Letter and a Lowly Disc of Processed Meat", Mary refuses to let Sheldon go to college. Sheldon and his dad make a video to Mary to change her mind. All of the following people participated in this video except who?

Answer: The librarian

When Sheldon decides to make his own spaghetti with hot dogs, one slice of hot dog rolls away and under the refrigerator. Sheldon decides to get a flash light to see under the refrigerator and Missy tells him that the parents in a flashlight in their night stand.

When Sheldon looks there, he discovers an acceptance letter from Cal-Tech in his parents' bedroom, he gets mad that his mom was hiding it. Mary confesses that she was hiding it because she didn't want Sheldon to go to college. She also implies that she doesn't think his dad should have a say in this.

Sheldon shows the letter to his dad, and dad gets mad that Mary thinks she gets to decide everything for the whole family. Sheldon and his dad together, come up with a plan to change Mary's mind.

Their plan is to make a video explaining why Sheldon is ready for college. In the video, Mr. Givens, Mrs. MacElroy, Mrs. Ingram, Principal Petersen, and Dr. Sturgis all vouch for Sheldon's readiness for college. After seeing the video, Mary finally decides to let Sheldon go to college - in Texas.

Sheldon thanks the slice of hot dog that rolled away for this moment before putting the hot dog in the trash.
