Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first two questions are about "Redemption Part II". Sela's mother was Tasha Yar. True or false?

Answer: True

This concept almost deserves its own quiz. In the main universe that the series takes place in, Tasha Yar died a few months after coming on board the Enterprise D. However, when the Enterprise C crossed to a different universe, they brought the Tasha Yar from that universe with them when the ship traveled back through time.

She married a Romulan, and had a daughter who grew up hating humans after that Tasha died, is about the same age as the Tasha from the Enterprise-D, and has just about everyone but Guinan really confused about how she could exist.
2. Who commanded the USS Sutherland in the blockade against the Romulans?

Answer: Data

When the Romulans tried to run the blockade to get supplies to Duras' sisters, Data figured out how to locate the ships. Once found, the ships returned to Romulan space, and without the supplies, Lursa and B'Ehtor forces were defeated.
3. How did the Children of Tama communicate in the episode "Darmok"?

Answer: Metaphor

The problem with talking in metaphors is that if you don't know who Darmok is, you can't understand what his actions represent. It was only through the help of their ship's captain that Picard learned enough to begin a relationship between the 2 groups.
4. Ro Laren is a member of what race?

Answer: Bajoran

The episode "Ensign Ro" not only introduced us to a new character on the show, but was also the 1st show to refer to the conflict between Bajor and Cardassia, although that would be explored more fully in "DS9".
5. In "Silicon Avatar", what was the name of Dr. Marr's son?

Answer: Renny

Her son was killed by the Silicon Avatar, and she wanted revenge. When the Enterprise crew tried to communicate with it, she used the opportunity to destroy the entity, only to learn that based on Data's analysis of her son's journals, he would have been disappointed in her actions.
6. Who was the ranking bridge officer in the episode "Disasters"?

Answer: Troi

This is the fish out of water episode on the show. Troi was the ranking officer still alive on the bridge, Picard was trapped in a turbolift with a group of children, and Worf had to help Keiko give birth.
7. When Wesley Crusher returned to the Enterprise in "The Game", which character did he get involved with?

Answer: Robin Lefler

Back before Ashley Judd became famous as an actress and a Kentucky basketball fan, she appeared in a few episodes of the series as Ensign Lefler.
8. In "Unification, Part I", whom did Sarek suggest that Spock went to meet on Romulus?

Answer: Pardek

According to Sarek, Spock had met Pardek during the Khitomer conference and maintained a dialogue over the years. This was Mark Lenard's final appearance in a "Star Trek" series as Sarek. He played the role in the original series, multiple movies, and 2 episodes of "Next Generation".
9. In criticizing Spock's decision to travel to Romulus on a peace mission, what did Picard accuse Spock of practicing in "Unification, Part II"?

Answer: Cowboy Diplomacy

Spock pointed out that he'd been practicing "Cowboy Diplomacy" since before Picard had been born. In a future episode, an envoy from Spock would use that same phrase to verify to Picard that he was legitimate.
10. Which character was helped by the Ullians to remember an old memory about her grandmother in "Violations"?

Answer: Keiko

They saved history by using telepathy to draw out long lost memories from people, like helping Keiko remember that when she was a little girl, she watched her grandmother writing script and would clean the brushes. It later turned out that one of the Ullians also used his powers to invade minds for evil purposes.
11. In "The Masterpiece Society", how long had the colony on Moab IV been isolated from the rest of humanity?

Answer: 200 years

The colony was genetically engineered to maintain a carefully balanced population. After working with the Enterprise to save the colony from a stellar core fragment, several members of the group realized how far that humanity had advanced past them and chose to leave, ruining the balance.

The effect that their decision had on the colony left Picard wondering if the Enterprise crew had accidentally been as destructive as the fragment would have been.
12. Whose quarters did Ensign Ro believe she spent a great deal of time in during the episode "Conundrum"?

Answer: Riker

When the crew's memories were selectively erased, they were forced to make decisions based on their instincts, with Ro's conclusions about her and Riker as a romantic couple being the most interesting result. It might have made for an interesting subplot, but after the crew got their full memories restored, the issue was dropped.
13. What injury did Worf suffer in "Ethics"?

Answer: A broken back

With his spinal cord severed, he couldn't be the person he once was, and per Klingon tradition he decided to commit ritual suicide. He held off only because an outside doctor had a new but untested operation that ultimately did cure him. We also saw how far Worf and Troi's friendship had progressed, since he asked her to raise Alexander if he had died during the operation.
14. In "Cause and Effect", what did Dr. Crusher do each time they went through ('Trek' speak warning!) the temporal causality loop?

Answer: Break a glass

The tricorder wasn't used the 1st 2 times we saw the sequence of events play out. A neat thing that Johnathan Frakes (who directed) did was use different points of view for certain events. The glass was moved to different parts of her quarters, and broken in different ways. The final time through the loop, we hear the glass break through the intercom, but don't see it.
15. What flight squadron did Wesley Crusher belong to at Starfleet Academy?

Answer: Nova

His experience on the Enterprise helped get him on the elite team. This episode also introduced us to Boothby, the gardener at the academy, and Robert Duncan McNeill, who was Wesley's squadron commander in this episode, then later took on the role of Tom Paris in "Voyager".
16. In "The Perfect Mate", an empathic metamorph named Kamala permanently imprinted herself to whom?

Answer: Picard

She was brought out of stasis too soon, and when her liason was incapacitated, she had to help Picard prepare for her marriage ceremony to Alrik. Because she was attracted to Picard, she imprinted herself to him, but went through with the ceremony for the sake of peace with her world's chief rival, using her empathic ability to take care of her husband desires without actually being imprinted to him.
17. In "I, Borg", what did Geordi name the Borg that was taken on board?

Answer: Hugh

This episode included a lot of information regarding both Picard and Guinan's feelings toward the Borg. The decision to send him back with his individuality intact for the other Borg to experience would have interesting effects in a future episode.
18. What was Picard's name on Kaatan in "The Inner Light"?

Answer: Kamin

This was a really intriguing episode, as an alien probe caused Picard to believe he was a citizen of a now dead world for several decades, complete with a family, in 25 minutes of actual time. The idea of having Kamin learn to play a flute, then leaving an actual flute in the probe for Picard to play was a really nice touch.
19. We'll finish with a couple of questions about the season ending cliffhanger, "Time's Arrow, Part 1". Who did archeologists prove had been in a cave beneath San Francisco in the late 19th century?

Answer: Data

They found Data's head in the cave. Although the rest of the crew was upset about the revelation, Data actually found some comfort in the idea that he was mortal.
20. Who did Data find at the reception for Mark Twain?

Answer: Guinan

We didn't learn very much about Guinan's people in the series, but this episode gave us an idea of just how long members of her race live.
