Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who commanded the Enterprise for most of "Descent, Part II"?

Answer: Dr. Crusher

With most of the crew on the planet seaching for Data, Beverly was left in command. When the Borg ship returned and attacked, they weren't able to beam up the primary command staff along with the rest of the crew, but she was able to destroy the ship via some immaginative thinking and by trusting a junior officer.
2. In "Interface", who did Geordi appear to see while remotely linked to a probe?

Answer: Mother

Just after Geordi was told that his mother's ship was presumed lost with all hands, he linked up to a remote probe checking out a ship that was adrift in a hostile atmosphere, and saw his mother. It turned out to be an alien that was trapped on the ship, and who'd taken on her appearance to try and convince him to help move the ship farther down in the atmosphere where it lived in order to survive.
3. In "Gambit, Part I", who wasn't part of the group looking for Picard?

Answer: Data

Picard disappeared during an archeological trip, and the people who had last seen him said he had been killed. He'd actually been beamed away by mercenaries who were using him as an archeology expert, not knowing who he really was. It wasn't until Riker was captured by the same group that anyone learned he was really alive.
4. In "Gambit, Part II", when the psionic resonator was put together, and 3 gods were showing on it, the one in the middle was the god of_____?

Answer: Peace

The artifact was from the period before Vulcans found logic. It killed by using a person's own aggressive thoughts against them. Unfortunately for the Vulcans who wanted to take over the planet with it, if you are calm and peaceful, it doesn't work. Since that described almost all Vulcans, their plan was doomed to failure.
5. In "Dark Page", Deanna Troi learned the story about her sister. What was Lwaxana's nickname for her daughter Kestra?

Answer: precious one

Kestra died in an accident when Deanna was a baby, and Lwaxana blammed herself. She acted as if it never happened, didn't tell Deanna about her, and erased her diary entries from the period. When she spent time using telepathy with a group of aliens that included a girl similar to Kestra, the memories came back out and she shut down mentally.

It was only with Deanna's help that she could face the memories and go on with her life.
6. Captain Picard was never in love with Dr. Crusher before they were linked together in the episode "Attached". True or false?

Answer: False

He fell in love with her while she was married to Jack Crusher, but kept it secret since Jack was a close friend. This was the most significant bit of information to come out while they were linked telepathically. One version of history where they got married was in the series finale, but nothing else was done in the main timeline.
7. What physical element of Dr. Tainer was one of the clues that helped tip off Data that she was an android?

Answer: Eyelid blinking pattern

In addition to playing a musical piece exactly the same in a rehearsal and the performance, the android Dr. Tainer and Data used the same pattern of blinking for appearance sake. She had been married to Dr. Soong, and helped create Data, but had died. Dr. Soong saved her memories, and built such a perfect android that she didn't know she was an android, divorced him, and married someone else without anyone realizing her true nature. Data let her live as she was after viewing a hologram from Dr. Soong requesting it.
8. In Data's dream during the episode "Phantasms", which crew member was a half person, half cake ("with mint frosting")?

Answer: Troi

Somehow, Data realized that alien lifeforms were infecting the crew, but on a subconcious level, so the only clues came during his dreams. It was only when he stabbed Deanna in the exact place that the lifeform was infecting her that they found the problem. By the way, shouldn't the frosting have been chocolate flavored?
9. What device on the USS Pegasaus had been developed in violation of a treaty signed by the Federation?

Answer: Cloaking device

This story explained why the Federation didn't have cloaked vessels like the Romulans and Klingons. It also gave us a back story on Riker, who helped save his Captain during a mutiny 12 years earlier by the Pegasus crew, who felt the tests with the cloaking device were too dangerous. By escaping with him, he avoided dying with the mutineers.
10. During "Homeward", the holodeck images started to breakdown due to a malfunctioning system, causing parts of the real holodeck to appear. Worf called these "The Sign of __________"?

Answer: La Forge

While observing a primative race, Worf's brother Nicolai fell in love and conceived a child with a native woman. When the planet deteriorated and she and her group was going to die, he violated the Prime Directive and transported them to a holodeck, and with it too late to send them back, the Enterprise crew found them a new planet to live on.

They went on an overland journey there via a series of changing holodeck images.
11. According to the episode "Sub Rosa", where had the cornerstones of all the buildings in the Caldos IV colony come from?

Answer: Scotland

The goal was to build a colony that had the feel of Scotland rather than just make a pale imitation. They did such a good job that I'm surprised that Scotty didn't turn up there. Of cource, the Howard family ghost came along as well, at least until it tried to join Dr. Crusher, the most recent of the Howard women.
12. In the episode "Lower Decks", which of the junior officers had been in Nova Squadron and participated in the cover up with Wesley Crusher?

Answer: Sito

After she stuck it out and graduated from the academy, she ended up on the Enterprise. She proved to Captain Picard that she could stand up to the pressure of having him question her integrity and abilities, and got assigned to a risky and secret mission. Unfortunately, she was killed during that mission.
13. In "Masks", what was the informational archive hidden within?

Answer: Comet

A routine sensor scan activated the archive, and it began to change the Enterprise appearance to a representation of the world that created it. Data also showed multiple personalities representing several of the main characters from the world.
14. Which crew member became amphibious in the episode "Genesis"?

Answer: Troi

A virus that caused everyone on board to revert to earlier life forms occured because of a side effect from treating an actual illnes that Barclay had. Riker was a neanderthal, Barclay, a spider, and Worf was a kind of early klingon that could shoot poison. Even Data's cat Spot turned into a lizard, although the kittens she gave birth to while changing were fine, tipping Data and Picard off to a solution.
15. What was the real 1st name of the warrior K'mtar that claimed to be protecting Worf from the Duras sisters in "Firstborn"?

Answer: Alexander

Alexander came back from the future to try and convince his younger self to become a warrior. He felt that if he'd become a warrior instead of a diplomat, he could have saved Worf from being murdered 40 years later. Worf convinces him that he must follow his own path, and that he'd be proud of him regardless of what he chose to do.
16. In "Emergence", which of the following characters is not one of the group on the holodeck?

Answer: Young girl

Somehow, a new lifeform was being created by the ship itself, and the only way the crew could interact with the ship was via a holodeck program where the ship's systems were represented by characters from different programs.
17. The remaining questions are about the series ending episode, "All Good Things...". When Picard went back to the past, he accidentally mentioned that he knew that Chief O'Brien built what as a child?

Answer: Model ships

In the 3rd season episode "Booby Trap" there was a discussion about the fact that Captain Picard had built ships in bottles as a boy, and was amazed that neither Worf or Data were familiar with the concept. Chief O'Brien then volunteered the fact that he'd also built ships in bottles, but Picard wouldn't have known that when he'd just come on board as Captain.
18. What was the name of Captain Beverly Picard's ship?

Answer: USS Pasteur

It was a medical ship. In the future shown in the episode, Beverly and Jean Luc had been married, at least for a while, Geordi was married to someone named Leah (Dr. Brahms?), and Troi's death several years earlier had caused a rift between Riker and Worf, as they apparently each believed that they might have ended up with her if not for the other one getting in the way.
19. Q transported Picard back to earth just before life formed, and identified their location. Where was it?

Answer: France

The Q Continuum chose to eliminate humanity from existence with Picard's unwitting help. As Q moved through Picard through time, he gained enough information to solve the problem, although it was never completely clear whether Q was working for the continuum, against it, or subtly helping Picard while supposedly working for the continuum.
20. At the end of the episode, what version of poker did Picard say they were playing?

Answer: Five Card Stud

The officer's poker game was a part of numerous episodes, but this was the only time that Captain Picard played. It was also clear that Picard had described the future events he'd seen in enough detail that Riker and Worf in particular were determined to avoid problems related to Deanna. I hope everyone enjoyed playing this series of quizes about the show.
