Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Leg 3, teams departed from Chile and completed a leg of the race in what other South American country?

Answer: Argentina

Heading out from the top of Cerro San Cristobel in Santiago, Chile, teams were told to take a 1,500 kilometer plane ride from Chile to the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires. Upon touching down in the Paris of South America, teams needed to proceed to Plaza Canada in downtown Buenos Aires and locate the British Columbian totem pole to find their clue box. Following this, they had to advance to Vuelta de Rocha to find their next clue.
2. In Leg 3, team members needed to use which of these candies to spell out names during their trivia-based Road Block?

Answer: Mentos

At Barrio la Boca, teams located the Road Block task where one member of each team needed to choose one person who could 'do things to the letter'. For this task, each participant had to search through local shops for three selling Mentos candies with letters printed on them and then return to the starting point to open them up and spell out the names of four famous Argentine citizens past and present.

These were Eva Peron, Pope Francis, Diego Maradona, and Carlos Gardel. Sabrina, Cynthia, Neil, Nick, Dana, Dujean, Brent, Hamilton, Jesse, and Simi completed the task.
3. What sport did teams need to play 'blindly' in Leg 3?

Answer: Soccer

After the Road Block, teams ended up making their way to a soccer field at Fútbol Madero in the city where both members had to play a game of blind soccer; one team member needed to play blindfolded around an obstacle course, then shoot a ball on goal under a certain time limit to get their next clue.

This proved especially difficult until certain teams found a clever strategy. Unfortunately, Nic, a former pro footballer, couldn't figure out the trick and, to keep their lead, he and Sabrina took a two hour penalty to advance in the leg. All teams then headed to El Obelisko in Plaza de la República for their next clue box.
4. How many different teams could be at either Detour ('Dance' and 'Dine') in Leg 3 at any given time?

Answer: Six

Arriving at El Obelisko, teams needed to choose a Detour task quickly since only six teams could participate in either 'Dance' or 'Dine'. In 'Dance', teams needed to learn a difficult tango to the approval of their instructors to get their next clue while in 'Dine', teams needed to take and relay orders, in Spanish, in a restaurant, prepare the dishes, and deliver them properly completed to diners to get their next clue. Neil and Kristin, Gino and Jesse, Nick and Matt, Brian and Cynthia, Hamilton and Michaelia, and Dujean and Leilani completed 'Dance', while Nic and Sabrina, Simi and Ope, Dana and Amanda, and Brent and Sean completed 'Dine'.
5. Which team was eliminated from the race in Leg 3?

Answer: Dana and Amanda

Following the Detour, teams were directed to cross the Puente de la Mujer to their third Pit Stop where one team would be eliminated from the race. Neil and Kristin won the prize for this leg of the race, a trip for two to Beijing, China from Air Canada and six months of free gas from Petro-Canada.

While Nic and Sabrina took the two hour penalty, the two of them were saved from elimination, dropping from first due to a strong Detour showing, to eighth. In the end, Dana and Amanda were the last to arrive, by under a minute, and they became the third team eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 4, teams left South America and flew to what maritime Canadian city?

Answer: Halifax

Teams began Leg 4 in front of Torre Monumental in Buenos Aires and received a clue sending them to the airport to fly to Halifax, Nova Scotia on Canada's east coast (via Santiago and Toronto). Upon arriving in the Maritimes, teams were told to make their way to a BMO representative who would give them another clue.

This told them to take a taxi onward to the Halifax Central Library where they needed to search through five thousand images on the lobby wall to count the amount depicting a smartphone.

When they got the correct number (134) and handed it to a librarian on the fifth floor they could get their next clue.
7. Team members completing the Road Block in Leg 4 needed to find which of these?

Answer: A landmark

After the library task, team members needed to select someone with eagle eyes to perform their next Road Block. In this task, both members had to head to the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the selected partner needed to ascend 340 feet to the top, via ladder, to use binoculars to find a race flag somewhere in the city.

After this, they could travel to the location-- Citadel Hill-- to get their next clue. Michaelia, Nic, Brian, Leilani, Nick, Sean, Jesse, Kristin, and Ope completed the task.
8. In Leg 4, teams enjoyed smoothies from what race sponsor?

Answer: Orange Julius

After reaching Citadel Hill, teams ended up getting a clue directing them to travel on foot to the Halifax Public Gardens. There, at an Orange Julius stand, teams needed to taste five different fruit smoothies and, using a list of ten flavours provided to them, they needed to properly identify the five they tried. Once they got all of them correct, they could receive their next clue, a Detour task.
9. In the 'Bubbles' Detour in Leg 4, teams dealt with what live animals?

Answer: Lobsters

In the Detour in Leg 6, teams chose either 'Bubbles' or 'Suds'. In 'Bubbles', teams needed to head to the Aquatron at Dalhousie University where both members had to jump into a tank and catch two live lobsters each to properly tag for scientific research. Brent and Sean, Neil and Kristin, and Gino and Jesse finished this one..

In 'Suds', teams headed to the Garrison Brewing Company to deliver beer orders to three different pubs while returning empty kegs after each. Dujean and Leilani, Brian and Cynthia, Hamilton and Michaelia, Nick and Matt, Simi and Ope, and Nic and Sabrina completed this one.
10. Which team was eliminated in Halifax in Leg 4?

Answer: Hamilton and Michaelia

After the Detour, teams needed to take a taxi to the Halifax waterfront to find the Seaport Farmer's Market where Jon would be waiting at their next Pit Stop on the rooftop of the building. Here, Dujean and Leilani ended up arriving in first place having led for most of the latter half of the leg.

Their prize included an Air Canada trip to any Caribbean destination and six months of free gas from Petro-Canada. Although Nic and Sabrina fell to last place, Hamilton and Michaelia were eliminated from the race in ninth place since they lost their passport on the plane at the start of the leg.
